Big East February '26 Thread

Butler and Creighton were already well out of the tournament picture before tonight.

Nova is just a lot better than Seton Hall and the Pirates had no chance of winning that game.
Wasn't trying to say Butler and Creighton had a shot at the tourney, that's why I said bids/seeding. I was saying I want both within the top 75 so they are Q1 road wins and Q2 home wins. The losses last night hurt both teams' chances of finishing there (although I do think Butler will ultimately finish in the top 75.)

How much of the Nova/Hall game did you watch? I watched the entirety of it. The amount of wide open threes Seton Hall missed was astonishing, even for a team that isn't great at shooting the ball to begin with. Simpkins is basically a 40% 3pt shooter, he went 1/6. Pretty sure that one make came in garbage time too. Staton-Mccray isn't a world beater from deep but was about 34% coming in, he went 0-7. They played well defensively, were able to get open looks, just couldn't knock them down. I agree Nova is a much better team from a talent perspective but watching the game last night there didn't seem to be a massive talent gap. The Hall played well just couldn't shoot well enough to get it done.

That's not surprising. They're 311th in three point shooting percentage this season. For comparison, posters have been complaining about UConn's three point shooting and they're 55th. Imagine if Ball was shooting even close to what he did last season? They'd probably be top 15.
I realize they're a bad shooting team, atrociously bad. But they had guys who combined average around 36-37% from deep go a combined 1-13. If they just shot to their average it would have been a close game.

I think the idea is it's bad for us. Our in-league wins are doing less and less for us resume wise

We still get St. John's 2x, Nova on the road, and Seton Hall at home. That is four of our remaining eight games.

Looks like the comeback vs Providence sparked something in Georgetown because they've been playing much better since then
They’re a different team with Vince back. Cooley missing the tourney because of injuries again has to be killing him.

They might finish a top 4 team in the Big East.

Yea idk about all that, they lost 5 games in a row with him, it's not like the teams they're beating are all that good

2 of the 3 were all games they should’ve won if it wasn’t for them shooting themselves in the foot. The last two were UConn Nova.

The teams they beat aren’t that good but they’re also beating them pretty convincingly like they aren’t. Including against #4 at the time Creighton.

Villanova -Georgetown in a good one. Nova up 2 with 3:35 left. Georgetown after this game has the full week off until they play at UConn.

Good win for Nova. Accept that BE is a 3 bid and hope to do some damage. UConn and ST Johns can, waddya think about Nova?

Good comeback. They started the day at 32 in the NET. Top 30 becomes a Q1 win.

I think there are various teams on the 2/3 line they would have a shot at as a 6/7. Very important for them to stay above the 8 line

Acaden Lewis took over that one. Unreal shot making for a freshman

Nova is looking pretty good!

Homecoming game for him as a Sidwell alum. Put on a show for his friends and family who came out.

I think Nova is back and Willard is Big East COY. Good news for them and the Big East.
Except their FT shooting in the final minute made our current team look like our 2014 tourney squad. Wow was that atrocious. They are lucky it didn’t bite them.

In the last 3 min they went 4-10 and missed 3 front ends

Correct. What you mentioned was noteworthy. Coincidentally, that is the same court UConn had issues missing FTs to close the game. Nova and UConn have to fix that. The FT shooting issue finally bit UConn. Remember, they were 2-8 on FTs in the last 3 minutes on that same floor.

Butler's freefall continues. Back to back losses against some of the worst teams in the conference

Now they are firmly in that "some of the worst teams in the conference" group themselves

Seton Hall up 2 at halftime in Omaha. This game is disgusting, very ugly basketball

Seton Hall has a real path to an at large. Still have games against Providence, Butler, DePaul, Georgetown, Xavier where Ws would put them above 20 wins

But if they drop this one, they eliminate all room for error. Really don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you HAVE to beat UConn or St John’s in 2 of your last 3 games. They should come out hungry in the second half

Come out hungry they did. Took a double digit lead about 10 minutes in and nursed that double digit lead through most of the half. Up 9 with 1:30 left

Then it all fell apart. Turnovers, fouling three point shooters, giving up offensive rebounds. Nik Graves with the game winner and Creighton steals one!

Basketball poetic justice. Creighton was up 5 with a minute left in the game at Seton Hall and lost a heartbreaker with a Seton Hall put back off an offensive rebound. Creighton returns the favor by stealing this game. If Austin Schwartz was playing I think Creighton would've won more convincingly.
