Big East Expansion?

The ACC isn't all that..but is a pretty decent conference...but, in today's world, football defines all and other sports don't count so much.

Academics....If UConn joined, they would fit just behind FSU in USNWR Rankings...not a bad fit.

Sports...in the seasons from 2018...the ACC has won National Championships in..Football, Basketball,. Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Women's Basketball, Softball...and Tennis, Golf, etc.

Rivalries....Cuse, BC, Duke, Va. and UNC could be great BB rivals...(BC not as much until they could win a couple).

Geographical Fit.....could make a northern pod...but the ACC south of Virginia is a stretch.
What do you mean by a stretch? Carolina, NC State and Duke can see each other for all intents and purposes, Wake is about as far from those 3 as UMass from UConn. The only outlier really is FSU. People from Raleigh-Durham look at Atlanta like people from the northeast look at New York. Close enough from most places to go for a weekend.

As FSU chose to not play the game by being a University with a leaning to fine arts, teacher education, focus upon physician's general practice, etc...

Having a research hospital like Florida or USF attached to the school instead of being legislatively designated as a "Family Practice" focus med school would boost FSU in USNWR a lot....

Choices are made.....
I can understand it at FSU. The two flagships in FL have different priorities and it makes sense for FSU to differentiate from UF. However, CT has only one flagship and I prefer we chase very high rankings. My reasoning isn’t superficial. We need to get the best students and wealthy students to get big donations long term. That is easier with very high rankings and prestige Donations will secure the future.

Storrs to Raleigh is about the same as Storrs to Columbus, Ohio.....a 20 hour round trip drive. Having a group of conference opponents that far away makes for the "stretch"........sometimes, if a fanbase is dispursed in a state, a rivalry works even if not that close by miles...FSU is almost 500 miles from Miami and that works.....Raleigh is about 70 miles further away..

But, I know that Nole fans have never warmed up to having BC and Cuse on the yearly schedule....

How the world turns...now, getting an athletic shoe for showing up at a sports shoe outlet is laughable...in this day of million dollar NIL's, Miami paying everybody $50,000 as a starter, and other money flowing directly to the paid athlete.

But 25 years ago, that was big stuff.

OMG..an Ohio State player got free tattoos....probationized those unlucky SOB's.

.-.
laughable

Not to teams attempting to compete that won't put up $13 million a year.....

Coach Day was probably right when he said...one phone call and they are out the door.

Free agency combined with talent auctions..."what am I bid ?"

by laughable i mean that things have changed so much over my lifetime going back to the 50s. sometimes i cant believe the greed.

Oh for sure. When I graduated from high school in 1964, it seems like a different world in many ways.
