We can't compete in football. Never will. It's money down the drain. Taxpayers' money down the drain, because it is Connecticut taxpayers who are shelling out tens of millions of dollars every year for the ever-deepening deficit in the sports department. We can compete in basketball and minor sports. But football? Never.
History says you are wrong, we did compete in football in a BCS conference(" a Power conference"). and with comparable resources we will again.
The deficit was inflated by 13MM+ because of the Coach Ollie situation. That goes away this year.
You seem to have no idea how the AD deficit is made up.
Your entire post is a canard.

When? Very soon
I would guess very soon also. The P5 conferences will be making overtures to various schools to possibly join their family. Conference realignment will explode soon if it hasn’t already.

If and when an invitation is received, a decision must be made relatively soon. He who hesitates is lost. The offering conference won’t wait indefinitely.

The edifice gets a retractable roof for basketball, ice cream fest, pizza fest, and concerts too, lol

A retractable roof adds significantly to my 500M figure. (which I extracted from my butt BTW) :)

I don't think so. Just last year the Big 12 signed a $2.3 billion media rights deal with ESPN/Fox through 2030-31.

Meanwhile, the PAC-12 can't seem to sign a media deal with anybody and the ACC is holding on to Clemson and FSU only because of the GOR clause in their media deal.
Ok, thanks cat. I didn’t know about the $2.3 billion media rights deal. That deal ensures solvency for the conference through 2031. The $$$ will be there when it’s time to disperse media proceeds to member schools. That addresses one of my main concerns.

One of the informed and in-the-know UConn boosters said (off the record) that it’s not a matter of if, but when. That sounds like it’s a done deal to me. I’ll go with that. And heaven help the Big East when they leave.

They deserve it if you ask me. UConn got all those years they played in the football Big East against BC and Louisville. Mike Tranghese’s words still ring true “The Big East Conference will rue the day with this decision”.

If/when UConn joins the Big 12, we will be the 2nd most decorated member in the conference with 23 NCAA championships, after Oklahoma State's 52 titles. Most of OSU's titles are in wrestling (34) and men's golf (11).

Of course UConn immediately becomes the best in both Men's & Women's basketball with our 5 and 11 championships, respectively. For men that's one more than Kansas.

Here's a list National Championships by sport and university as compiled by the NCAA as of 6-27-23.

*Note: it seems that football championships by the old polling system are not included in the following file from the NCAA, which would add titles for schools like Texas & Oklahoma.

Texas and Oklahoma are going to the SEC. If UConn goes to the Big 12, it will be after TX and OK l eave

Yes, I accounted for this scenario, thanks! FWIW, UConn would be 9th most decorated in the Big Ten if we were invited and joined that conference and MBB would be tied with Indiana for most championships there. The NCAA list is very interesting as you can see many colleges have had a lot of success in certain sports, and it's fun to note that Rutgers has only one natty but they're the NY area market representative for the Big Ten lol. And as always, I appreciate your leadership on this board, thank you!!!

Take the money. Join the conference. Continue to build the program in all sports. With money you can do these things.
I'd assume that men's/women's hockey would stay within Hockey East. Is that a given ?

Yes, football drives the bus as to how decisions are made but there are some other considerations. Such as, no one in the B12 except WVA is in the Eastern Time Zone. How about giving the fans, especially the ones who hit the road, some love? Also, my school used to be in the Big 12 and it is chock full of unattractive locations. Who wants a road trip to Manhattan Kansas, Stillwater OK, or Lubbock TX?

That would be a logical guess. I dodn't know about a given - but why not?
Staying Hockey East is a great option if we go Big 12 - very competitive league. Though Big Ten would be even better for overall UConn athletics.

Are UCF and Cincinnati not part of the B12?

Or from their B12 opponents point of view, to Storrs CT.

UConn athletics is $40 million in the hole and you’re arguing against going because of aesthetics?

UCF is now in the Big 12

Sports Business Journal is reporting that the conference has re-upped with ESPN and Fox on a new six-year agreement “worth a total of $2.28 billion.” The Big 12’s current deal has two years remaining, so the six-year extension will run through 2030-31.

The annual average distribution comes out to $380 million when the new contract begins in 2025-26, per SBJ. That’s an average of $31.6 million for the conference’s 12 members, not including revenue that comes from the NCAA men's basketball tournament and the soon-to-be expanded College Football Playoff.

What do you suggest?
A lot of night games.

So you are saying we still get to play games in Manhattan? Cool!

I never heard anyone complaining about UConn or BC having to go all the way to Florida or Georgia to play several games in all sports, when in or lobbying to be in, the ACC. Getting that yearly distribution was the only thing that mattered. As already pointed out all of of UConn’s home games in all sports have a decided advantage for the home team due to travel for the opponents, and any away games UConn manages to win are gravy.

UConn men's soccer would need to belong to a conference outside of the Big 12.
Isn't this common in other sports, like lacrosse with the University of Denver?
