BG versus EDD

EDD isn't Larry Bird, either, beyond a couple of circumstantial similarities (leaving a presitigious program, taking some time away from the game, resurfacing at a lesser program).

There are some people you just shouldn't compare anyone to out of fairness to all concerned, and Larry Legend is one of them.

I agree

Perhaps I need to clarify Manute and Larry vs Griner and EDD. I watched Maute in college at the UofBridgeport which is just down the road from SHU where I went to college. Manute dominated the middle and blocked shots without jumping. He also dunked without jumping. He dunked flat footed. He also had an outside shot. I know Griner cant do most of those but does dominate the middle and because of her height is tuff to guard just like Manute was in college. EDD can shoot from anywhere creates her own shot, rebounds and is pretty much unstoppable one on one. Just like Larry was in college. Now if you want to compare pro vs college you cant yet. I agree you its tuff to compare anybody to anybody. For me EDD is the best player in WCBB.

One man teams don't last long, ask Jackie Stiles.

While I certainly agree to a very large extent, it would be difficult making the Jackie Stiles comparison because SW Missouri State was a Final four Team in 2001, a decent measure of success.

Boy, was I wrong. Delaware couldn't even beat Kansas. That leaves them no chance against Baylor. I tuned in with 10 minutes to go and saw that they had exhausted EDD and Delaware had no defense. Kansas scored layup after layup.

EDD was spent. BG gets pushed all game every game and usually plays 40 minutes when the opponent is of a higher quality. I dare to say that BG is in better shape than EDD. Playing weak opponents doesn't provide the day to day game toughness you need to stay at a high level the entire game against more athletic, physical defenses.

Kansas really bailed UD out by fouling EDD a lot, but then again, when a player is much better you tend to foul them. IMO, Baylor would not send her to the line that much and her shooting percentage would probably be a bit lower than it was against Kansas.

Without EDD, Delaware would never have gotten as far into the tourney as they did. That one player could bring a team so far, almost on her own, highlights her special talent.

JMHO

Without her they are lucky to a .500 club.

BG is Manute Bol EDD is Larry Bird. I take EDD over Griner if Im starting a team. Think about this how good would Glory Johnson and EDD be playing for Geno?????????

Really? Do you really need to trash Griner? (Minute Bol, RIP, was never ever even considered to be a good player.)

Griner has proven that she is as good as she can be against the best.

EDD is very good. No arguments there.

But she is far from being the best ever.

Are you seriously suggesting that she would score like she has if she played against BE teams?

(Assuming that she wasn't playing for UConn or ND, of course.)

Peace,

John Fryer

Kansas State by all accounts played great defense on her. Elena still had 34 points on very good shooting efficiency, 9-18 from the floor and 15-18 from the free throw line. Getting to the free throw line is what she does. She's the most efficient pure scorer that WCBB has seen, almost exactly a female Dirk Nowitzki.

Griner is more of an impact player than EDD. As great as Dirk is hypothetical teams are still going to draft Shaq first, but Elena can score prolifically on any level.

To clarify, it was KU, not KSU.

I do not think EDD drops 30 on Baylor or UCONN. She would have a good game but if KU can tire her out just think of what these two teams would do. EDD is a tremendous scorer but she did look wiped out by the end of the game. She went to the line a lot because KU was determined to bump her all night long, especially when she was trying to come off screens.

First of all Im not trashing Griner by saying she reminds me of Manute. Manute was a great player who contained the middle and made it difficult for opponets to score just like Griner. As far as EDD. If she had played with Tina Renee and Maya yes I do think she would even be better then she showed us this season...dont you. I agree with Scotter EDD is the purest shooter WBB has ever seen.
