He's amazing for the sport though. I kind of love the guy because everyone knows what he is and he knows what he is. Best thing Johnnies ever did was hire him. Amazing coach.
Yup. I applauded the hire in 2023 while the NCAAT was going on. It wasn't a matter of it St John's was going to comeback, but when. This is great for the Big East.

I would love to know Hurley 's thoughts as he was watching St. John's defeated Creighton.

Now... all we need is for Jay Wright to say "retirement is good. but time to get back in the biz" and return to Villanova.

One can dream, right?

Hurley, Pitino, Wright. Oh man. That would be epic for the Big East

Using the word “honesty” to describe Pitino might be the craziest thing ever said on this board. He’s a legitimately bad guy. He’s what people think Calipari is. Great coach though.
Over a guy who tries to act smug and classy yeah I prefer an a hole who calls it like it is. If you can coach that's all that matters, what you or anyone else thinks of Pitino doesn't matter if your not in a jail cell you will coach.

I don't mind if SJU goes far in the Tourney, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Every time I rooted for a Big East ream outside of us they would fall short in the past. I think they could get to a final four, but that is probably their ceiling.
Somebody's got to represent, and if X is out and UConn, Creighton and Marquette are all 8 seeds, SJU is probably the only one making it through the 1st weekend.

So that's how you beat Creighton.

I have no love for Pitino, but it would be nice if St. John's won a third straight title for the Big East and stuck it to the Big Ten and SEC for another year as they and the committee treat the conference as a mid-major.

The ceiling doesn’t get much higher than that.

I was bummed at how we played last night but I honestly didn't care much because I knew we would've been Creighton tonight.
I would've preferred losing in the championship game, used it as another game of growth, wouldn't have even cared if we got killed as much as it would suck. In 91 Duke lost to UNC by 30 in the ACC championship, then went on to win it all, 2014 UConn losing to Lville by 10.

Not that I ever really believed were a final team but that extra game against a superior opponent can really help a teams growth, oh well it is what it is.

With Auburn and Alabama both losing in the Semis, is there any chance St John's gets the last 1 seed?
They definitely should be a #1 seed. Anything but a #1 seed should be perceived as disrespect to the Big East a whole. The ACC, a weaker league this year, has had a dominant Duke team and notice that Duke is getting the respect it deserves. So why make the exception with the Johnnies?

Anyone that dominates this conference like the Johnnies have done this year should be rewarded with a #1 seed. This is a league that has produced 4 of the last 8 national champions. Its a power league and its top teams should be treated as such.

These three teams should be guaranteed #1 seed:
Duke
Houston
St. John's

The fourth team. I'm not sure... as the top teams from the SEC/B1G have flopped in their tournaments

Right, but if they have consistent 3 point shooting then their ceiling could be championship. Right now I don't think so. And if they keep falling behind in 1st halves, would be tougher to overcome 2nd weekend of tournament then this week.

That's what we need.
That is exactly what UConn needs , more athleticism, ruggedness, toughness, to go along with the basketball skills. UConn's lack of D when Creighton was shooting 75% FG aggravated me to the core.

It's going to be very hard to pick St John's to make a run with the FT and 3PT shooting, but the rest of the field is extremely flawed this year so who knows what happens

They remind me a lot of 2023 SDSU, we’ll see what happens.

While I normally have little interest in St John's and also have little desire to see Pitino, the conference as a whole needs something besides us and Nova (if they can make the right hire to replace Neptune).

To give an idea of where the remainder of the conference has been:

The last current member (not named UConn or Villanova) to win a game in the final four was Butler (not even in the BE at the time) in 2011, which was a repeat of Butler's 2010 run.

The last current member (not named UConn or Villanova) to make the final four as a BE school was Georgetown in 2007, the only other appearance in the 2000's (it's 2025 by the way) was Marquette in 2003 (not a member at that time).

The last current member (not named UConn or Villanova) win a game in the final four was as a BE school was Seton Hall in 1989.

Below is a list of the historic final four presence of each of the other nine members:

The results are pretty sparse, with much of it occurring prior to expansion to 64 (now 68) schools in the tournament.
