This was better. Note: not my kitchen. Messy as hell, friend hosting opening week NFL party, the big pot is from scratch clam chowder. The foil is from wings I smoked Sunday morning.

A newly-diagnosed pinched nerve in my right arm caused fire in the elbow. Always assumed such injuries was minor. Well, sure ******* hurts when arm isn't at 45 degree angle. Anyway, Day 2 of popping Medrol and decided to leave work a little early.

Here, at New England Brewing Company, an Imperial Stout Trooper...Mexican chocolate cake version.

“Beer Expert! Where have you been? I have been looking for a beer that is a collaboration between a Vermont brewery and an Austrian brewery and I am losing hope!”

If I had a dollar for every time someone has asked me that question, I would be a rich man.

So here it is….a Von Trappe Brewing collaboration with an Austrian brewery called Hoffelwhiffenpoofer or whatever. Liked it quite a bit. Lots going on in there and I suspect a lot of you would really enjoy this one. A lil more hoppy than is my preference, but still, worth a pick up.

“Beer expert! I am looking for a beer from a Vermont brewery, but I really hate Austrians! Help!”

Understood. Austrians are weird.

Anyway, Burlington Beer Co.

Meh. We used to go to Burlington Beer after the Vermont City Marathon and I always enjoyed it - am starting to think I was just delirious because the beers I’ve had this summer are just average. Perhaps it’s just for the tourist trade.

The Austrian bit brings back some memories for me. When we had the house in Rochester VT, we were friends with a family a bit further up the mountains. The Ottens. They escaped Austria at the same time and knew the Von Trapps. Erna was rather old when I knew her but played a grand piano they had, same piano Mozart used she said. Lovely people and a bit of a trip into history to talk to them, a gift really, to get those stories first hand.

The last sip of the Stout Trooper pictured above yielded a small lump on my tongue. I figured it was a yeast clump. Spit it into the glass...nope.

Legs still moving.

I had never seen a spotted lanternfly before, but one showed up on my deck two weeks ago and now we’re inundated with them. I take a picture of the beer cans, but I gotta drink out of lidded steins because the stupid lanternflies will land on or in the can at least half the time.

If you are looking to get something other than an IPA in Vermont give Lawson's Scragg Mountain Pils or Fest Bier Lager a try.

I have! It was great.

A second review because I have been slacking.

Lawson’s Fest Bier…it actually felt a little like September at times at the Cape this weekend, so it was fine.

High marks for this one. One of two beers I had last week that really impressed me. Grab this instead of the S’mores rocky road cotton candy stout you’re looking at.

Speaking of which, I'm going to a wedding this weekend "somewhere in Vermont". When I finally found out where, I had to ask what the heck is in Waitsfield, Vermont? Whaddya know, we're staying 3 miles from Lawson's!

Waitsfield is nice. There are some great taps at the Mad Taco and at Worthy Burger Too (excellent food at both), including Hill Farmstead most of the time. They also do a nice Saturday morning farmer's market at Waitsfield Village Green (right next to Hill Farmstead), it often has some distillery offerings from Mad River and Barr Hill. There's a Vermont tasting room too, with Mad River, lots of cheese and some other stuff. Our old house was about 25 minutes from there.

Head 15 minutes north of Waitsfield straight up Route 100 to Waterbury. Great eats and beers at Prohibition Pig. Hen of the Wood is right down the street. Great restaurant. The Alchemist in Stowe is very worth a visit.

Fantastic marzen on a glorious weather day in Stamford today. Counterweight can do no harm in my book. Used the Lawson’s glassware with all the Vermont talk here.

View attachment 111177Absolute banger from the good people at Ober Creek in Wappingers Falls. @Fishy you need to get over there and share your expertise!

Popped by - had a stout. Quite good - not really interested in what they had available to go this week. Will just check back and see next week what they’ve got going.

“Beer Expert! It’s the weekend and I have been looking for a Franconian Zwickelbier!”

Of course, you are.

Anyway, here’s one. It’s good. Not my favorite among their beers, but some of you nitwits might like it. Pretty sure that’s a carp on the label.

This was awful. Legitimately terrible. I poured half of it on a plant and I fully expect to find that plant has uprooted and moved to the neighbor’s yard. Absolute crap.

"Beer Expert! Where have you been? We're all alone, adrift in a mindless sea of Beer Advocate reviews! Please, come back!"

I tell you, my in-box is loaded with such messages. Fortunately, I have been doing extensive research and will be back to help you as soon as practicable

Been living in Norwalk for nine years and a finally made my first visit to Spacecat yesterday afternoon. Just a beautiful spot and excellent vibe. Spent whole afternoon outside and had the UConn game streaming from my phone in the background.

Beer of choice was Event Horizon, their excellent seasonal schwarzbier that had a really nice balance between its lighter drinkability with roasty/toasty malts. So much flavor at 5.2% .
