Kid and I were in Halftime yesterday and we’re looking for four single beers to try to go along with our 30 pack of Narragansett’s.

We’re looking at the lagers because we do not like pine cone beer and some dude says, hey, I distribute this beer and if you’re looking for a lager, it’s great.

And it was. But here’s the thing…it’s like $6 a can. That might be just an anomaly - sometimes Halftime’s pricing can be weird, good and bad. At $24 a four pack, no way. If it’s something more moderate normally, I would recommend trying it.

Yes Schilling is amazing. Best lagers in the Northeast. But HT and DeCicco’s price single cans at a premium because they’d rather you purchase a 4pk. That beer goes for about $17/4pk at both those stores. You will never find a Schilling lager that misses the mark. All of their ingredients are imported from Germany or Czech.

Cool glass. Like the restaurant next door. Have Hill Farmstead on tap.
Aspetuck Brewlab, now closed, outta Black Rock, sold these glasses. So glad I snagged two of these years ago.

One of the things I like about Jacks Abby, aside from really good lagers, is the pricing. It's way more affordable than most. $12 4 packs.

Big Fatty's BBQ. Pretty good BBQ and a great taplist. They even have 1-2 Fox Farms from CT there typically. We usually stop there on the way up to our annual "Guys Mt Biking at Kingdom Trails Weekend" for lunch and to stock up on River Roost beers. During COVID, Fatty's ran a small craft beer shop on the side of the restaurant where you could get all kinds of VT beers (Foam, Alchemist, etc., etc.). Since COVID, they turned it back into a salad/food bar.

People are always asking me, “Hey, Beer Expert, I am looking for an excellent beer, but in a can that hints at an existential nightmare - can you help?”

Of course, I can. The Marlowe “What’s Been Before.” Basically a very nice lager with a strong hint of lemon that you can enjoy while you hope that whoever designed the can gets the hug he needs.

It’s a great kellerbier. Grassy, fruity, malty, unfiltered. Can art designed by Carla Waclawski, who is the partner of Marlowe’s head brewer and owner. She designs all of the labels. And brews beer. Very talented artist.. although you might not glean it from this label.

That’s insane. Not the case at DeCicco’s.

Down to $19 this weekend.

Picked up four different Schillings for the long weekend because I know people are just refreshing this page waiting for Beer Expert content.

Also picked up a few from Burlington Beer. Meh.

"Beer Expert! We're lost and adrift without beer reviews heading into the first NFL games of the year? Why have you forsooked us!"

When you look back over your life and you see only one set of footprints in the sand, that is when I carried you. And carry you I am....

I bought a bunch of Schilling beer way over what retail is supposed to be. Only thing I can say is that you should get out and get some - it's ALL good. This is great and it's not even near my favorite. TotalWine carries some of them at normal prices...jump on that.

I still maintain that if you cannot sit and enjoy a Red Stripe or a Narragansett, you don't actually like beer, you like the thought of beer. But if you want to step up a bit and not have to pretend to like pine cone jizz in a can, this is where you gotta look.

View attachment 111356Counterweight does traditional styles so well. This collab with Von Trapp is so on point. If you’re driving thru Cheshire on 84, stops at Fuoco Apizza and Counterweight are a no-brainer.
Austrian style from Littleton, NH so I definitely have to get me some. Just 1.5 hours away in Stowe is Von Trapp. I see a road trip in the future. The hills are alive with the sound of Marzen

Von Trappe is solid. Good lagers and a beautiful setting in the fall. There’s an Inn there.
