I was in Mass last weekend and went to Tree House Brewery. Left after I saw a 1.5 hour line well into the parking lot to get beer? WTF is wrong with the people up there? I had a couple at my brothers house in Windsor...Julius and Doppleganger IPA's I believe. OK beer...don't see the cult attraction though as it's not that good IMHO. My brother feels different though. His fridge is full of them. He drinks the TH cool-aid.

I don't get the waiting in line cult thing either. Maybe it is 'that good'...but, I find it hard to believe that it is 'enough better'... so that the 1.5 hour wait is worth it.
So much good stuff out there now that requires no wait at all...can't believe there's a "1.5 hour wait taste differential."

Think about how much you get paid per hour at work and ask yourself, if you add that on to the price and take away the wait...is it worth it? Would you still get it?

So you are not talking from experience?

OK...so, to rephrase...never been to TH, but have had friends that regularly frequent and give me samples.
They're good...but, to me anyway, there is not a "1.5 hour (or even a half hour) wait" taste differential.
Just my opinion...the upside is not at all worth added wait...

taste differential between what specifically?

Beers that, by themselves, are just as good as "TH +a 1.5 hr wait", to me.... include, but are not limited to:
-Foggy Geezer
-Lazurite
-Clown Shoes:
...Bubble Farm IPA
...Baked Hoppy Goods
...Whammy Bar
-Firestone Walker
...most of their Luponic Distortion offerings
-Berkshire Brewing co - Inhopnito
-Coastal Extreme Brewing - Rhode Trip (and Rhode Soda)
-Foolproof - Federal Hill
-Bell's Two-Hearted Ale
-Sweetwater 420
-Sweetwater IPA
-Founder's - All Day IPA
-Cigar City - Jai Alai
-Elysian - Space Dust
-Jack's Abbey
...Hopponius ?union
...Calyptra
-Wachusett
...Wally
...Wally Jr
-Dogfish Head...

I would take any one of these, and prob several more I can't think of right now...if given the choice between these or "TH + 1.5 hours"...

Is that the new normal? What time of day?

Keep an eye on their twitter feed. It updates the line status. I’ve had luck Wed and Thursday mid afternoon. Right between the opening lunch rush and when people get out of work. Only problem is that you have to take a half day if you work traditional hours.

Expected post from a cult member...LOL

I don't really disagree but I have had only 2 of their beers once each and although good not nearly worth waiting in line for. My brother on the other hand says it's the best of the best and will wait in long lines. Maybe it's just not my taste in beer or I am not indoctrinated into how good it is.

Or maybe you just have bad taste in beer.

People are talking like a 1.5 hour wait is the norm there. It’s not.

You might as well throw bud light on there as well.

And I’m not even talking quality, you are all over the style map.

It would have been easier to just say “ screw the wait just hand me a beer. any beer”

Disagree with that "any beer" part....most are IPAs...pretty broad, yes.... (and wouldn't include 'all' Dogfish)...a few IPLs, with a lager (Sweetwater 420) thrown in for good measure.
If the only option was wait in line for one of those, or wait in line for TH, would probably do the TH over many of those.

But, if the option was 'wait in line for 3 minutes for a Bud Light, or 3 hours for a TH"...I'd take the TH...after all, I do have 'some' standards....

there is nothing wrong with enjoying beer, ANY beer, in my world. I would, have, and will, drink anything on a variety of occasions. Its Beer.

My whole point is that in my opinion Treehouse, believe it or not, is not overhyped. It's not because there are lines. And its not because it doesnt exist in stores (or even bars on tap).

It's because they are making beers that simply are that good. A few are in the top 10 best beer in the world category. The rest are a cut (or 3 ) above anyway.

Different strokes for different folks. I've had about half of those and imo none of them are as good as Tree House's standard beers (Julius, Doppelganger, Haze, Green, etc.) but that's why there are lots of breweries. Everyone likes something different.

If you want almost as good as Tree House beers and don't want to wait you can go to Trillium when you're in Boston. I've been there at least 20 times and only once did I wait more than 3 minutes and that was when I unexpectedly was there when they released Barrel Aged Affogato and there was a 30 minute wait. I was ready to leave but a friend said I had to stay if I was in line already just to get that. It was good but the half hour wait outside in the cold was barely worth it.

I’ve never had a Sweetwater that I’ve liked. Absolute puke.

It's gotten so smaller micro brewers can do just as well as the hippest of the small brewers these days. Once our local guys raised their game, there was no need to go looking for Sip of Sunshine and the like. When people are doing it locally, that says it all about the craft beer craze.

This is pretty damn good. Double Galaxy. I was up there on business today and decided to take a ride over and thankfully I got there late as it was anniversary release day. So picked up a growler of DG and a couple of sixes of Enlightenment and some 750mls of random stuff.

Anybody remember Hull's export? I think I got the name right. Was a brewery in New Haven years ago. Before the era of " fancy beers". By the way, I am working in Germany at the moment. Can't beat the beer from the local brewery in Germany, anywhere in the country.

lets hear it.

You know me already despite our differences id have a beer with all of you. And I've had beers with many of you already. ( Hell I've had one of My better meals and conversations in recent memory with @OneTrickPony and he paid! Trickle down! ) But I'm not done .
I will provide my list. But before I do let's hear a couple choices out of libs and cons alike about who you'd sit down with. It's a healthy excercise. No wrong answers.

Also, I can't wait to embarrass @whaler11 in his hometown soon. I love whaler but I will still horrify everyone in his circle.

.so let's hear it.
