BC Post Game Thread

He did a lot of launching his body at people. And then the one absolute blow-by was… rough
He looked totally lost on defense. I was hoping to see an improvement there this year from last year. Looks like Mullins will win the job.

That was a tough game to watch. We were missing 2 of our best players and we still won by 17. I can not wait for the rest of the season.
BC was 4-16 in the ACC last season. Just a little perspective. I'm not drawing any conclusions from this game, especially missing two starters.

Good to see some of the new pieces. Hard to take too much away from a game this early that we don't have 2 of our best & most important players on the floor.

We can probably park any ideas of Furphy having a lot of impact this season. He is pretty clearly a developmental piece. Mullins looks really, really young. He is not Castle or even McNeeley in terms of being mature physically coming into college. I don't want to speculate on him being OAD or not, this early, but he doesn't look like a kid that is auto-slated to go after one year.

We were god awful and over-reliant from 3. I think we are going to see a lot of rotations with Silas/Malachi this year to create more playmaking & to bring some dog/athletecism to the floor. Our best defensive units would probably include both of them out there as well.
Enjoy Mullins for this season.

Reibe needs to throw it down instead of laying it up. Otherwise I thought he looked really good. Better than I expected.
Smith was solid at point guard. We’re going to be much improved there with Demary and Smith.
Offense was awful for most of the game until the point in the second half where UConn took back the lead. Hurley said this year he wanted to not have the offense be as structured, be more free flowing for the players. Without the structure they ended up jacking up way too many threes, no mid range game, and a bunch of missed bunnies at the rim. Go back to the structured offense from two years ago. This group of players can run it.
On the plus side the defense was much improved, except for too many fouls.
Koroma gave decent minutes for our third string center.

Burton graduated from Lehigh University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a minor in Africana Studies. While at Lehigh, she was a standout for the NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball team. She then went on to earn her Master's degree from Syracuse Newhouse School.
Her dad is Steve Burton who is/was a sports anchor forever up in Boston

Bunch of people saying we’re over reliant on 3s, but just about every 3 tonight came off good or great ball movement or were just wide open looks.

Those are great shots that we want to get. They will fall at a much higher clip in the regular season.
Look at the free throw disparity. Look at last year. You want to live & die by the three again?

You're probably right, but I think there is a scenario where he sticks for two. Kid looks and feels really young.
I agree with his “little shrimp kid” look, but I really didn’t see him getting absolutely bullied and destroyed. Granted, it was BC, so better comp will be the test. But Sneaky athletic and high BBIQ.

Focusing on behaviors since it’s an exhibition against BC lol

Solo was launching threes but looked like he was trying to attack more. Mixed results but did make most of the 2s he ended up taking. Hope we see that more

Malachi is gonna draw so many charges this year. He’s so quick laterally and gets in front of his guy so easily. Hurley will get him to take the hit

Is it just me or does Karaban’s shot look a little different? Less to the side and more towards the center?

Reibe will be good for us. Missing bunnies right now but gets in the right spot offensively

Stewart had the nice behind the back into Braylon dunk but overall not a great game. Ross had some nice moments too. He got UP on that late midrange jumper

Speaking of Braylon, I’m excited.

Furphy didn’t look ready. If Rrezon finished that late alley oop after the mean block I’d crown him the best UConn center ever

IVE MISSED UCONN BASKETBALL!

General takeaway is this team is good, woulda been a 30+ blowout if we made more open looks, Demary and Reed woulda given us more shots at the rim.

Thought it was interesting we ran a play for Mullins on back to back possessions to end the game. Clearly wanted him to see some shots go in.

Smith was definitely pushing the pace, might need him to slow down sometimes. But like his ability to get paint touches on this team.

Reibe missed some bunnies, but I liked what I saw today. Think he’ll be a problem in due time.

We’re gonna need to keep Reed and Reibe healthy somehow, any team with real bigs is crushing our small ball lineup.

Kinda wish they’d alter the rules and allow a couple more fouls for these exhibitions. Maybe not 10 like NBA summer league. But a couple more. I mostly want to see someone like Mullins get comfortable in our offense sets against a live defense and he spent much of the night sitting with soft fouls.

Or maybe officials could swallow the whistle a bit and tell the bench “that’d be a foul in the regular season”. I don’t think it benefits either team to have someone shoot 18 foul shots because he dips his shoulder into people for 40 minutes.

The 2nd half of the 2nd half was UConn bball.

Im glad to be watching the Huskies play again !

We shot like a steaming pile from 3. But total pts from those shots almost matched what we got from our twos. And yea I know the FTs come off of 2’s mostly.

I doubt we will average 50% of our shots from 3 for the year, so take a breath and relax.

But there will be games where it will happen. And if the looks are great looks, you go with it with the shooters we have. It’s not complicated.

Are tattoos on the way out? I thought it was painful to watch at times but was an exhibition game after all. Defense was great, but the fouling was frustrating.
Sideburns are on the way out. What's with all the bowl cuts?

Why do people keep saying over and over he's sneaky athletic? He's just athletic, he's the quickest player on the team.

Slightly built, but a better athlete than McNeeley by a pretty wide margin. If the shooting is anywhere near as good as advertised, he’ll be gone.

Because when he’s standing out there on the court, he looks like a small unathletic little kid.

But then you watch him at game speed, and it’s clear he’s athletic. Sneaky athleticism. Duh
