The basketball Hall of Fame game was played 100 miles from the basketball Hall of Fame? What am I missing?
I don't know but it isn't new. They had 20 games in 2024, all Basketball Hall of Fame branded in some way. People just don't like Springfield perhaps?

Totally agree, Not nearly enough gushing about Reibe on this thread.
I thought Reibe needs some extra strength as he was knocked off his spots quite easily and missed a lot of bunnies. I like that he has good footwork but it will take some time to develop his game and get that consistency needed to score.

I’m not sure how much was strength and how much was just his style of play on offense. At this point he shies away from contact around the basket and defaults more towards fade-aways or other moves to get around contact. He’ll continue to learn how to leverage his size from going against Tarris everyday.

I'm surprised people seem surprised he's not a stiff, he's a McDonald's all-American.

He looked exactly how I thought he would look in his first taste of college game play. He showed he has offensive ability and rebounded okay but he was easily knocked off his spots and had a lot of trouble finishing.

Not sure I agree with the "missed a lot of bunnies". I thought he had a pretty normal well rounded game. The missed layup with 3 seconds left in the 1st, then the miss/reb/missed tip in at the end? Not enough for me to squawk about his need to improve. I think there are some folks way, way too critical of lots of facets of yesterdays game because they're bored and want something hoops related to whine about.

View from row 4 near midcourt.

1. Reibe is bigger/stronger than I thought, more capable and physical in the paint. Never once stepped outside to shoot. As a backup center, wow. He does need to dunk more or at least go up stronger.
2. Smith is a terror on D, very slick and quick ball handler. Again, as a backup? I think he's probably better than Diarra was. He's going to play a lot, especially late in games.
3. Shooting. Don't care. They all looked off, Alex, Solo, Mullins, Stewart. Doesn't matter. Not worried about it.
4. Mullins is quick and has a nice looking stroke. Strong players are going to body him and he's going to slap at them and will probably commit a lot of fouls. He couldn't handle Hand Jr. He does put effort into defense but clearly is still learning.
5. Stewart is a calming influence. He's a Junior and when Hurley needed the team to settle down, Stewart was the call. Knows the system, does the right things. Rebounding looks improved.
6. Ross got extended minutes in an effort to slow down Hand Jr. and was fairly effective. He's no Lyman DePriest, but he's the closest thing we have to a wing defensive stopper. That seems to be his role. If somebody is going off on us, I expect him to get the call.
7. Furphy didn't do much, but was also fine in his minutes. Wasn't mistake prone, played hard. He'd play a ton on a lesser team.
8. Millender. Seemed like a throw in depth piece, but with Silas out, it's clear we needed him. Not sure who plays PG without him, Furphy maybe. Teams are going to press us just to reduce our time in half court, so having him for situations like this is critical. Clearly a veteran player.
9. Koroma. Very tough, aggressive rebounder and interior defender and scorer. Gives up size to most 5s. Will be very useful to have against some opponents and plays very hard out there.

Side note: the speed of the game compared to the women, sitting in the same seats just hours apart, is really staggering. The cuts, the speed of ball movement, the speed of moving up court with or without the ball, it's just not even comparable.
In the ten minutes Ross covered Hand in the second half I don’t believe Hand scored. Nor did Ross foul him.

In that time Ross had four defensive rebounds, two steals, one block one assist and scored his four points. He only twitched once on a Hand fake but recovered quickly to alter the shot.

Fairly effective is an understatement. BC may be a poor team but Hand is legitimate. Those ten minutes were the best ten minutes Ross has shown at UConn. If this is not a one off and he could provide that type of play consistently he’s going to be an important part of the team and earn minutes.

Those were the first minutes that Ross was able to demonstrate what he does during practice.

I think 3 or 4 were bunnies, and even a couple of those should have simply been dunks.

I thought AK's first step looked noticeably much quicker than last year, he was getting by defenders with ease when putting the ball on the floor. Downside is he left way too many points on the board at the rim and on wide open 3s, which was reminiscent of last season.
It’s actually scary how his 3pt production has dropped. They said it went from 40 to 38 to 35 % from 22-24. If he’s going to be shooting sub 35% he can’t be jacking up 8 per game.

He played against starters…he’s the backup center. Can’t see many backup C better than him. Did y hear Huleys comment about how he was only able to play DC 3 min in his first scrimmage because he was so bad?

I was extremely impressed for his first game

I truly just don’t understand it with him. Looked allergic to the ball in the first half and tried to get rid of it on offense as quickly as possible. Way more decisive and confident in the second half and looked like a completely different player. We’ve seen little spurts of that before and it has never quite stuck. Hopefully a switch can flip but it’s entirely on him to make that jump.

The defense was jumpy at times in the first half but he settled in nicely in the second half and had some really nice possessions. He just needs to realize that he’s athletic and long enough to make things difficult without bouncing around right up in the ballhandler’s face. I feel like like he thinks that’s intensity, but it’s what gets him off balance and out of position. He’s immeasurably better on defense when he just calms down a bit.
I think he needs the extended time to settle down. He got that in the second half. When he is brought in knowing he has to be a microwave he gets too bouncy like you say

Watching games prior to UConn this was his style of play. I agree with you going against Tarris everyday will help him go strong to the basket.

His defense surprised me. He improved from games I watched playing on the German team. But he was playing the four for the most part.

The first “missed layup” in the opening minute is a little bit of a harsh description. That was a quick spin move into like a 5-foot jump hook over someone. Would have been a pretty move had it went.

He certainly did miss a couple he could have finished … but there’s typically an adjustment period for bigs finishing over college bodies - guys their own size but stronger.

It appears the coaches want the players to shoot much quicker in half court sets than the past few seasons. Any open look Ball, Karaban, Mullins, or Stewart had they took the shot.

It looks really ugly when everyone is missing but with the players we have it is the way to play. If the players remove the jitters and get the glitters we should look like the 23 Alabama team.

And if defenders play us tight than Reed, Demary and maybe this new version of Alex will make them pay.

Defense will be critical if the coaches opt for this style.

What's the new version of Alex?

ya'll are crazy. Reibe looked great for a freshman in an exhibition game that is basically a scrimmage. Better than I thought he would. He missed a few gimmes but that's normal for a freshman.
I really wanted to see Demary play and was bummed he and Tarris had to sit but it was great to see Reibe and Smith get a lot of run. Smith is legit. He defends hard, can score, passes well. With Demary at point and Smith off the bench they will be a menace. I was impressed with Millender and Koroma.
