Geno dubbing Bianca The Queen of Turnovers was interesting. Funny. The man is not worried.
When Blanca walked past Geno on her way to the bench he gave her gentle and uplifting reassurance. He knows what she has for capability and how to nurture those skills and her mindset. He is the master. She will be outstanding. I think he is smiling inside about the player he has in Blanca!!!

People have covered most of the analysis, but one thing that struck me was how mobile our bigs were on defense. Both Sarah and Serah were guarding out near the 3pt line and doing well out there. Blanca and Ayanna are very quick for 6-2, and having 4 players at 6-2 or greater with that kind of mobility is pretty rare. All of them can run the floor as well, way better than most bigs.

Yea. Sarah did in fact at times guard their point. That’s wild.

Appreciated my gifted Courtside seats left of the basket.

1) Glad folks were ok with KK's play. I was muttering "She needs to get her mojo back". edited 'cause clearly aliens stole my brain! Concerned about the point guard role.
2) Was intrigued by the swarming defense/3 trapping. Have too recover more quickly 'cause that right corner was magic for BC's 3 point shooters
3) Was glad they were playing a D1 team. BC was solid, played hard and took advantage of UConn's errors
4) Sarah IS A MENACE on offense and defense. Watching her quick hands was mesmerizing.
5) Heckel will want to forget this game
6) REALLY enjoyed watching the refs interact with the players - explaining calls and joking. Anyone know who the two fans who got to shoot courtesy of the ref?

I thought Blanca had a good sense of where to be on both ends. I suspect that she will be more effective in a lineup that gives her driving space. Being a big team is a gift and a curse. So are most things, right.

I appreciated Blanca's instincts, so I think that will work out, long term.

I was surprised by Kayleigh's game, both offensively and defensively. As folks have said maybe nerves? (Though she has played on the big stage before, but maybe this is different?)

Azzi is, hands down, the best shooter-- in the second half; I'd like to see her be the best shooter for 40 minutes, but that's just me being difficult.

Sarah Strong is the real deal. Again. Still.

1) Glad folks were ok with KK's play. I was muttering "Need to give her back #4" 'cause I felt her mojo was missing. Concerned about the point guard role.

?? Arnold has never had #4. Samuels had it for the year before last and it was empty last year.

So glad I’ve gotten to see the kids play.

So many different talents, personalities, aspirations that Geno & CD get to refine, teach, habits to change.

Good first look at the wonderful lovely hot mess of kids that haven’t learned to work together as of yet. Let alone figure out what their potential is.

Looking forward to seeing lots of improvement in the 2nd exhibition game.

Only thing to add. Williams, Heckel. and Quinones were overly anxious and rushed shots (actually just threw up some prayers). To be expected in first practice game outing in front of a very large crowd. The three of them are quite skilled and will provide valuable minutes as the season progresses. I thought Caroline showed some flashes of her freshman self. I wish that kid a very successful season!

Watch on TV and I thought it was a good very early season look. Normal preseason games come in the week/10 days before the season opener, thos one came in the week/10 days after practice started. The returners know the systems, where to be, where to move, how to switch - the newbies are all still learning that stuff so they're either thinking too much and reacting slowly or charging ahead of their brains and making mistakes. To be expected at this point.

Lots of turnovers because the motion was disjointed. Lots of assists because everyone passes well. Geno wanted 40 minutes of chaos with all the pressing, and he got it. Uconn had 103 offensive possessions (69 shots, 19 TO, 15 fouls by BC which works out to 2.5/minute. That is a TON.

That fast play was because he had a 14 person bench and could play/rest players frequently. And because they used pressure defense for all 40 minutes. Sped up BC, sped up Uconn, and led to some ugly. With more practice, the same pressure will speed up the opponent, but the Uconn team will play more under control. And with more practice, the defense will not break down the way it did for most of the game - people will understand the defensive rotations, there will be fewer triple teams, because two players will not both go to create the double team.

As for the newbies - I liked what I saw. On a simple level, they looked better than Carolina and Ayanna who have both been around for years. Kelis and Blanca both look 'bigger' than I expect and both move well. (One of the announcers said Blanca reminds Geno of a certain Russian who didn't travel 5000 miles to pass the ball! 😎 )

Based on watching this game, I have no worries about the season if we stay healthy. And I think for all but a few games this season, the minutes played could be fairly similar with the high player getting mid 20 minutes (Azzi 23 in this game.)

Blanca's potential is clear. She is 6'2" and athletic. Her issue is the speed of the game. When playing professionally she often went up against older and more experienced players. She picked up the basketball IQ playing against older and more mature players. That is good. But, those older players are much slower. So a young Blanca could get away with some things that she can't get away with against the younger competition she is up against now. IMO. She will adapt.

It was good to see the women in action.

BC was a scrappy team and made more threes than I wanted.

UConn looked ragged, because it's early, we tried some odd combinations, and the press made things hectic.

Azzi shot like Steph Curry, and Sarah played like Kevin Durant. She's NPOY good.

Blanca was a little out of control, but fewer 3-pointers and more cautious passes will help. The potential is obvious.

Serah looked a little rough in spots, but overall impressive.

I was surprised to see Jana. I like her rebounding.

I'll give Kayleigh a pass for today. Both she and KK have some things to clean up.

Ash looked efficient, as usual.

Several people mentioned that they only got audio on UConn+. I experienced the same thing on my computer, but I got the Boston TV feed on my phone using UConn plus. Very strange, but I didn’t turn it off in disgust.

I thought the team looked slow. BC had a lot of wide open 3's and they made them.

The newbies have to learn how to score at the rim. A lot of bunnies missed.

Overall, I thought the team looked good for 3 weeks before the season.
