I have a lot to say about this game. But above all else I want to shout out the little things: Mahaney hitting all those game-swinging threes, Stewarts steal and free throws, Samsons play in the post.. In my opinion, probably our most important win under Hurley: Our heart put us over the top, lets carry this momentum and continue tearing up the state of Texas whenever possible.
Our most important game under Hurley?

Enough drinks for tonight.

I hate to speculate but you have to wonder if his shooting has gone to his head? Where’s the rest if his game? Built like a RB, but doesn‘t drive. Lazy D. Doesn’t crash the boards. Just wants to shoot 3s. That’s not who he was last year.

The relying on 3s thing isn't new. He shot way too much last year and looked selfish at times, especially after Steph came back.

I don't recall his defense being so bad. Benefit of having DC behind you, I guess.

I wouldn’t mind seeing a starting lineup of Mahaney, McNeeley, Karaban, Stewart, Reed.
(Diarra and Johnson more effective off the bench)

Early in the year when Castle was banged up that’s not who he was. When his minutes got cut, it seemed like he was pressing and was shooting quick 3’s that weren’t necessarily in the flow of the offense. I recall him making some plays driving to the basket early last year. But it’s not what he seems like he wants to do or is most comfortable doing. The threat of the drive would get his guy to play off him further and open up more space for his outside shot.

I was bit surprised by some of the gloom and doom. That was a good game for us. Stewart, Reed and Johnson were looking great out there together (at times.) Big, aggressive and crashing boards.

Mahaney showing why Dan recruited him,

Solo Ball looked out of place out there in 2nd half. He might need to start coming of the bench.

Why so much negativity? "We won....but...." We just beat #15 after that debacle in Maui. We should be doing cartwheels. I would, but I'd end up at the chiropractor.
I don’t see negativity just facts. I mean a great win for a team minus their most experienced guy and some key players not playing as well as they can. Some people stepped up and that’s a good thing.

When he’s not doing a Cornholio impression, his jumper actually looks quite nice
He has developed a hitch on his shot reminiscent of Andre Jackson. It isn't there all the time but anytime he is rushed it shows. He needs to learn to develop a consistent release.

Who’s negative? We should acknowledge that Baylor was without Edgecombe, who may be their best player.

It was when he was not staying on the floor at the end of the year.

Liam contributed on the defensive end which some blocks and tough rebounds. I and others criticized him in Maui for not filling up the box score in Maui despite playing 33 minutes. He showed up huge on both ends of the floor tonight and we loved it.

Steven Ashworth is not even 6 feet tall and has 6 rebounds so far against Kansas.

No excuse for Ball

For all the DH haters; that hug by the coach when Samson fouled out, seemed so sincere. Makes an impact on the current and recruits.

Not to mention the 2 bigs in the line up. Coach had a good game.
Not only a hug but a kiss in the cheek too!!

Diarra made some plays late because prior to that for 30 minutes he wasn’t good and to win a game with him playing his C game and Ball a D is a hard earned win.

Samson was very good as was Reed 2nd half. Liam was really good and is getting better wait until he starts shooting it like he actually can! Stewie a few good minutes as well.

Lots to iron out but a good win no matter!
You are a VERY generous grader giving Ball a D. Especially when he is allergic to D
