Battle of the Champions - who would win?

This one is tough. You never want to pick against Marvelous Maya and Tina Charles, but I am picking that 2015-16 team. Better shooting on the perimeter, better point guard play, and a lot more athleticism in the starting core and coming off the bench.

2017 and 2018 were both unfortunate. In 2017, we had a matchup problem and the refs let the game get too physical which just exposed our weakness. Unfortunate but that is what happens when you have a weakness. It can get exposed.

The final four loss in 2018 may be the most criminally reffed games of all time. That team deserved to be champions and it was taken from them. I would love to hear Geno's off-the-record thoughts about that game.

I'd pick 2002 over either, or a healthy 2001 even over 2002.
formalhaut- - -I agree with you, IMHO 2000-2001 was the greatest UCONN WBB team ever (in spite of the record) as they had at least 5 All-Americans on their roster!

Going with the 2010 squad, but that would be some game to see! If I recall correctly it was basically between a couple teammates, Maya and Tina, for wcbb MVP that season, how often has that happened? Both teams were really loaded with talent and a joy to watch.

I just loved seeing Maya play the game, truly grace in motion. I was pretty sure when she stepped away from the game that we wouldn't see her back on the court, but I kept dreaming that I'd get to see her rise up and release that beautiful jumper many more times..... Now I'm going to have to go back and binge watch her UConn games.. again!

The 2016 team with Stewie and all the other great players on team. They had just finished what had never been done before, win 4 NC in a row. I am not as well veraed in statistics as the better posters, but I believe they out scored their opponents by a larger figure and they shot the 3's better and their defense was better. I started watching Uconn in 2013 when Stewie signed her letter of intent on the hood of her father's truck. The rave reviews Stewie received were so high I decided to watch Uconn and I have not been disappointed. Uconn IS the role model all teams should emulate as they play the most team BB I have ever seen. GO HUSKIES!!!

Probably eventually three Hall of Famers too (Cash already; likely Bird and Taurasi down the road).

Correct: 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 were the two most dominant statistical teams in history. In 2015 they set records with a scoring margin of 40.6 and an almost unfathomable field goal percentage margin of 23.1% (outshooting their opponents by 54% to 30.9%). The 2016 team dropped to a mere 39.7 coring margin, but went undefeated and led the nation in numerous categories, including (for the only time in the team's history) free throw percentage!

I did this (as a poll) a few years ago. In the final 2016 beat 2002 61% to 39%

2009 got taken out in the Quarterfinal by 2015, 57% to 43%.

Honestly, I think when the 2016 team was peaking, probably the most dominant team ever. Weak link would be Chong and time management…..but I digress…

Potentially, if they all stay healthy, the NEXT 2 years may be among the best ever in WCBB!
I totally agree. Uconn's potential for the next 2 years is a possible 2 year unbeaten streak, if everyone stays healthy. The nucleus of Paige, Aaliyah, Ice, Nika ,Aubrey, Azzi, Caroline and the freshmen is formidable and the defense is proven to be top notch. I will be posting next year on the undefeated season with a confidence that this team gives me. But first, we will take care of the NC. GO HUSKIES!!!

Thank you for confirming what I believed. Thank you again.

Tina and Maya were the 2 best players in the nation. Maya won the Wade Trophy, but Tina won the other NPOY awards. If EDD had stuck around, we would have had the THREE best players in the nation.
