Michigan isn’t leaving the Big Ten to go independent. If they wanted to leave- which they surely don’t- there is a more interesting theoretical option. With the Big Ten being so top-heavy and the SEC being so deep, would Michigan and Ohio State (and maybe Penn State) ever consider joining the SEC? It would basically be a super league at that point. Imagine those three and UNC joining the SEC…whoa.
 
It’s proving very difficult to appease all of the B1G egos. No way is SC ever going to agree to be considered second tier in any conference.
 
One huge metric for AAU is medical research $$ which come from the federal government. Since the administration is cutting back on that, it will be interesting to see the ranking in future years.

They could easily go independent. Easily.

And the Big Ten knows it which is why that “PE but we’re not gonna call it PE” deal was dead the second Michigan came out against it.

The SEC has ~9 brands, the B1G has 4 or 5. Which means there are a ton of schools getting way more money than their value just because they're in the same conference as OSU & Mich. If they even threaten to leave, the other schools will fall in line.
 
The top 12-15 teams are considered the elite, making up the backbone of college football.

They have a lot more than that, if we're talking about football.

PSU, USC, Oregon, Washington, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA, Wisconsin, Iowa and even Nebraska.

These are big college brands.

The minnows are Rutgers, Michigan St., Minnesota, Illinois, Purdue, Indiana.

In the SEC, Texas, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss are the brands.

The others are like the minnows of the B1G: South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi St., Missouri, Kentucky.

Based on the proposed private equity payouts for the Big 10:

Tier 1: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State
Tier 2: USC, Oregon
Tier 3: Everyone else in the Big 10.

So, private equity, which is valuing the brands, doesn't agree that Washington, Nebraska, UCLA, and Wisconsin are tier 1 or even tier 2 brands.

Name the SEC schools then.

Because Wisconsin has competed for more national championships and produced a lot of NFL players. Under Paul Chryst, Bret Bielma and Barry Alvarez, they spent 3 decades making the college football BCS or playoff regularly.

They've produced a lot more NFL players than, say, Texas A&M, and like the majority of the SEC top brands, they are all in the 300s (Wisky is at 345) in terms of producing players.

They have had a very rough go in the last 5 years under Fickell, but that's like dismissing UConn for Ollie's later years.

I tend to agree with this. The top brands in the. BIG 10 are Ohio Stare, Michigan, Penn State, USC, and Oregon.

The SEC is Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, and LSU. But the other teams in the SEC are much higher value for football than any of the other BIG 10 schools.

The other SEC schools are much higher in value than UCLA, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Washington? Really? Let's name some of them: Vandy, Miss St, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mizzou, South Carolina, Kentucky. I would say that NONE of these 7 SEC schools are much higher value for football than the 4 B1G schools I listed.

Notice you dropped of Rutgers, Maryland, Nortwestern and Purdue (we are talking football), Michigan State. Just look at the football rankings. There are so many good football teams in the SEC while UCLA, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Washington would always be bottom dwellers in the SEC.

Not mentioned for a reason. It's a high value brand.

Do I think it has MUCH MORE VALUE than some of the B1G schools I mentioned? No. They certainly haven't shown it on the field compared to some of those schools.

I have no idea how you think for example UCLA, Wisconsin or Nebraska would win anything in the SEC (football). Yes Washington was good two years ago prior to losing their coach to Alabama. Since then they have been very average.
