B1G 25-26

Anybody left?!

The availability report in advance of today's game. Excluding Welson and Poffenbarger, Maryland's roster is down to 11 players. They still have a decent core with Garzon, McLean, Okananwa and Poffenbarger (when healthy - not sure what current situation is). Their freshman Mack has been solid, which has also helped.

It's Maryland's day game for all the school kids to come to. She's buying into the whole "6-7" phenomenon that is sweeping the country, but I'm sure you know that. 😉☺️

Not surprised by this announcement. Had assumed she was going to redshirt.

Big hit this season. Next season guard rotation is going to be awesome with McDaniel, Smikle, Okananwa, Mack, Welson, Bartelme and Walker. Probably will have to have 4 guards in the starting lineuo.

YOU BETCHA!

Huskers taking care of the Lancers to remain undefeated
They must've set their alarm clocks a bit late today. Didn't wake up til Q4. Was a close game til the final frame when they went on a 32-10 run.

Cal Baptist seems to have fallen on hard times. They were pretty good when they moved up to D1. Now they are just another mediocre at best mid major.

.-.
I've watched 3 Penn St games over the past couple of weeks and they are truly terrible: it should be a battle with Northwestern for the bottom of the B1G. I think those two are much worse than the rest of the league and could see either or both only getting one conference win. Hopefully, they will be better than they presently look. I can see even Rutgers finishing ahead of them.

Hey, Purdue and Northwestern want in on this conversation. Maybe Wisconsin too.

Big win for Sparty tonight over Ole Miss. The BIG’s second tier has few marquee wins. Good for the conference.

Which is wild considering Penn State was, just 12-14 years ago, a pretty solid program. Ranked in the Top 25 consistently. Northwestern has always been iffy. Rutgers remains a mystery.

As we approach Big Ten conference play, we will get to see which teams are contenders and which teams are pretenders. All teams have played one Big Ten game so far. UCLA is the clear favorite, but anything can happen.

.-.
Purdue is so close to putting it all together. Some teams are just going to be in that middle or lower tier of their conference; Purdue just might be in that group. Which group? Depends on the players.

UCLA/Ohio State should be a good one.

Ok, I watched today's game against Illinois and I am not at all convinced that Gearlds has this team close to putting it all together. Are they better than PSU or NW, maybe but along with Rutgers they are all near the bottom, not the middle. But why do you think this? Their OOC was 116 so they had zero good wins.

Interesting matchup today between two of several contenders for a top 3-4 spot in the BIG: USC at Nebraska. USC played a good nonconference schedule and is statistically a really poor offensive team, but good defensively and very athletic compared to traditional BIG teams. Nebraska played a very weak nonconference schedule, but is statistically the BIG’s best offense.

Britt Prince has been crazy efficient, averaging 18+ ppg with a 67% EFG%. Assume Kennedy Smith, one of the BIG’s best defenders, will spend at least sometime matched up against Prince. USC lost to only 1 holdover BIG team last year.

They are a bad "team"with some decent individuals. Merkle can be near dominant in a battle of half court offenses but, oh my, how they deteriorate when you get them in a running game.

So I ran Efficiency stats for all the top 25 teams (and an additional 15 more for the fans of those teams) and SoCal (#37) is truly atrocious and is not really deserving of Top 25 votes. Nebraska, on the other hand is very good offensively via the efficiency scoring metric #12.

I think SoCal will struggle in the Big 10 this year behind UCLA, Michigan, Nebraska, Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa and Illinois. Heck even Oregon and Minnesota may beat them.

30 minutes to tip at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. What a wonderful venue! Parking was a nightmare.

So the Trojan warmups look like clown suits.

Huskers and fans are fired up!

We'll see. Looking forward to a great game this afternoon

Perhaps this is headed for a divorce at semester break, which would be a big loss for Iowa, a team sorely in need of players who can play off the bounce and create their own shot.

Lots of unsubstantiated rumors on Iowa websites over the past week or so; Talia's post is the only one from a trustable source that provides some information. Of course, 'violation of team rules' is quite vague. The fact that the door is open to return if said rules are followed going forward seems to indicate it's nothing completely horrible. Hope it works out but the mystery has been brewing since only playing 4 minutes in the Miami game. We'll see.

Update on Rodriguez. She's back with the team.

GREAT game in Lincoln. 38-36 Huskers.

Davidson is a LEGIT defender. Length and she knows how to use it.

The difference in the first half....free throws. Huskers have made them all, USC has missed 6.

Tale of 2 quarters....in the first the Huskers dominated and with 2 threes and the Trojans in the bonus from the 5 minute mark led 20-12. The second quarter the Trojans asserted themselves on both ends of the court. Seemed like Davidson had 10 blocks.

Tremendous discipline on both sides of the ball by Amy Williams team.

What a wonderful place to enjoy a game.....this crowd is super.

Edit: and one less undefeated team...USC 74- Huskers 66

Tale of two halves?

Basically, U$C hit three straight unanswered threes in the 3rd to get a lead. Game traded back and forth most of the rest of the time but Nebraska could not erase that flurry

Did you not see the improved play in the paint by Puryear and McCarthy? Puryear and McCarthy provided some glimmer of hope with their play in the post for Purdue. Each day they are getting better and that is the goal. Small successes each practice and each game.

Yep, another way to characterize the game

Huskers 20-12 after 1

Huskers 38-36 at the half

And then....

After their excellent 1st quarter the Huskers were outscored 62-46.

USC is a very solid defensive team
