B1G 25-26

The only team they've played with a pulse is Clemson at 5-3, and they beat them by 8 points. Preseason pundits have put Sparty in the top 20 but this schedule isn't going to prepare them for the BiG or the tournament. We'll see.
And there you have it: Sparty goes down to a very average Wisconsin team, 78-64.

Theryn Hallock for MSU didn't play today. That's MSUs player that makes that team go. Unfortunate for MSU but everybody is missing players. Good win Badgers.

Was that here that someone was talking about Michigan St.'s historical numbers on both offense and defense?

I'm not all that smart, but somewhere along the line I figured out to not put too much stock in early season results. Especially when it comes against a weak schedule.
Guilty as charged.

Thanks to the Boneyard posters that answered questions for me while my internet was out. As JellyBean correctly predicted, Iowa could defeat Rutgers without Chit-Chat and even Jan Jensen. Kind of an unexpected whoopin'; they did play well though. This year's team can play some defense; on offense they assisted on 26 of 32 baskets which is almost unheard of.

Chit-Chat did return although it's questionable that she even practiced. Apparently she got hit/slapped on the head in the 1st quarter and her injury protocol dictated that she come out of the game. Emely Rodriguez is probably a 15-20 minute/game player so her loss is significant. It's also a negative that she's missing practice as this is her 1st year in the program and is still learning the offense and finding her role on the team. Mallegni probably loses us 5-10 game minutes so not as much of a loss, but she needs to play so we can see if she can realize her potential to be a meaningful piece. To be fair, Jada is a deep reserve but one of the most valuable members of 'the circle'.

Wednesday's game at Iowa State will really show where we're at development-wise, and a very valuable test leading up to our December 20th meeting with UConn. Even if we can beat ISU I think our current ranking of 12 is all the higher we probably deserve to be; I think the Cyclones are a little overrated as well.

Hope Wright is back for Wednesday. We should swap impressions here before the game Wednesday. Hoping for a game that lives up to the ranking hype. ISU has played one of the weakest schedules in Div I so this will be a real change of pace. Sick of cupcakes. Didn't even watch the game today, it was simply pointless viewing and more like a scrimmage than anything remotely competative.

Just finished watching USC/Washington. Sorry, but this was a complete clank-fest. It was literally 50-50 if someone would hit the rim on shots from 15 feet plus. There's good defense and then there's just poor offensive ability. This game was option #2.

Washington vs USC was UGLY, if USC plays like this against UConn on Saturday and it will be a over after the first quarter with UConn winning by at least 25 points.

Yeah, of course the primary matchup will be how Iowa approaches Audi. Although 'only' 6'3", she plays taller than that because of her girth; you have to lean into her to get to where she holds the ball. More like she's 6'5". If ISU can get their 3's to drop they'll be tough to beat in Hilton. I've felt Iowa has been overrated but they continue to prove me wrong. A potential wildcard in this game is Taylor McCabe. Of course she can drill the 3, but this season she's upped every other part of her game: defense, rebounding, passing. I think she has the highest +/- rating of anyone on Iowa's team this year. Should be a great battle.

General comment. This looks to be a Hawk team that can, and does, play a bit of defense. ISU keeps saying they will emphasis defense more but I have my doubts since they haven't played anyone to test that statement. The ISU/Indiana game looked like a Maryland vs Iowa "who can score the most" from several years ago.

This years promise is turing next season mega team. No Bri McDaniel, no Kaylene Smikle, no promising Lea Bartelme. They'll return Okanawa, Mack and probably Welson. Loaded backcourt and the #7 overall recruit.
My Minnesota Gophers gave you guys a good run. I was able to catch the replay this morning before heading in to work. Maryland is solid. Huge fan of Coach Frese and what she has done at Maryland. I just think that one season we had her here in Minnesota, the impact and success, was off the charts! Good luck the rest of the season. Hats off to Minnesota. We are not so Minnesota nice. We got some ballers. Keep up the good work, Minnesota and Coach P

Attended my first Michigan game yesterday. I watched the UConn/Michigan game awhile back and was impressed with Michigan and the overall look of the team. Watching them live, it is a total experience. I love what I saw from the bench to the starters. When a team is connected and engaged, like what I saw from Michigan, it is a great look. The body language and full support for each player on the team, is such a positive sign and it shows total buy in by the players. Props to Coach KBA and what she is building over at Michigan. Great game and Michigan is going to cause some problems in the Big Ten.

And with Wisconsin getting hot from 3 in the second half, that doesn't help matters. They shot close to 45% for the game where Mich State was less than 30% from 3, if I recall correctly. Van Slooten was also pretty quiet with respect to stats. Six points isn't something you'd expect from her.

Grace Sullivan looks really good. Like she needs to be put in wnba mock drafts good. The game got a bit out of hand after half time but 37 and 8 on a top 25 team is no joke. And I just like her game, pick and pop is deadly, can post up a little, and put it on the floor. She also seems to be a legit 6'4. I'm interested to see how they do in big 10 play.
Also shout out to Saylor P.

Parchment is quietly building a nice resume as a freshman. Got overshadowed by Prawl of Tennessee when they played together. Also the second freshmen from Illinois to earn this honour this season.

What Coach Greene has done since taking over has been impressive. I think it also gets overshadowed by other programs in the conference.

Bri McDaniel is expected back in the new year. Saylor and Mack are nursing ankle injuries. They will be out about two weeks.
Two games for the rest of the month so they will not miss much hopefully. Wisconsin seems to be very improved though but that's on the 29th so close to 3 weeks away.

Perhaps this is headed for a divorce at semester break, which would be a big loss for Iowa, a team sorely in need of players who can play off the bounce and create their own shot.

Maybe, but as we've seen with that player from SC, maybe they need some time to reflect and get on board with team rules.

Lots of unsubstantiated rumors on Iowa websites over the past week or so; Talia's post is the only one from a trustable source that provides some information. Of course, 'violation of team rules' is quite vague. The fact that the door is open to return if said rules are followed going forward seems to indicate it's nothing completely horrible. Hope it works out but the mystery has been brewing since only playing 4 minutes in the Miami game. We'll see.

I just wish people did some "copy editing" on their social media posts. I know she meant "violation of team rules" but the text says" due to team violation of rules." The team didn't violate the rules. 😒

I generally don't like to be the grammar police and I know sometimes autocorrect is to blame for this sort of thing, but the meaning of what is in the text of the message is different than the intent here.

Interesting article on Maryland's international recruiting for this season. All of it was done virtually.
Maryland had to adjust their recruiting because of all the transfers in the 2022 and 2023 classes. They lost the entire 2023 five player class to transfer. First they did it with the tranfer portal. Now they have added an international touch to their recruiting. The staff did a great job virtual recruiting. The three players never set a foot on campus until after they signed.

We can relate to their pain. Could definitely derail what was shaping up to be a good season for the Terrapins.
