Ayanna Patterson potential National Freshman of the Year?

NFOY is always a player who takes on a major role for their team and almost always a starter. I don’t expect Betts or Patterson to start or be focal points for their team this year unless the players ahead of them on the depth chart experience injuries. My best guess is that Barker/Rice will be front runners. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gray is also in the mix at Oregon. She looked great at the McDonalds AA game and started their first game.

There you have it! Shut the board down. No reason to kibbitz about the team. Stop "schmegeggeing." Just allow reality to happen. :);)
Are all of your other posts devoid of speculation? Let me help you. The answer is no.
Your sarcasm is misplaced. @huskeynut and I were talking about the press writing us off before a game has been played. We’re saying that the teams’ play determines who wins, not the columnist

Chill

This is simple. Play ball. Decide all this on the court.

All this other "stuff" is pure speculation.
Fully agree! Let’s shut down The Boneyard!, And all newspapers and sports magazines as well!

Of course he also said this

M.A. Voepel: For the first time since 2008, UConn will fall short of the women's Final Four. The loss of four players (through graduation or injury) among the Huskies' top six scorers from last season will be something the team works to overcome. UConn will still be Big East champion, but will lose in the NCAA Elite Eight.
Yes, we lost 3 players to graduation and one to injury, but, the 3 players we just got will more than compensate for the loss of their playing time and scoring. I posted before that Christyn 14 PPG, Olivia 9 PPG and Evina 9 PPG will be replaced by Lou 17-18 PPG, Ayanna 12-14 PPG and Inez 8-9 PPG. Plus Azzi will score 18-20 PPG , Aaliyah 15-16 PPG, Caroline 18-20 PPG and last Aubrey and Dorka 14-16 PPG. I think we have everything covered. Don't forget Nika and her defense. GO HUSKIES!!!

We have a good team now, no doubt about it, but what this team can be in March with the pieces that are still available and Auriemma coaching it, is what makes me excited about the season.

One day at a time.

We’re about to have some scoring records shattered this year with that 130 per game average

I'm putting my longshot money on Latson at Florida State.

She's not a Morrow kind of longshot, but I think she's going to surprise a lot of people.
I agree. She looked very good yesterday 28 points, 9 rebounds on 10-22 shooting. I can definitely see her being FSU leading scorer.

Ayanna reminded me of a young Kalana Greene. Not great size, but a lot of fight underneath. Talented for sure. IF ONLY she could be teamed up with Ice!!!! Heartbreaking....
Having that same thought in mind is why I expressed a similar take 2 weeks ago. Next season we get Paige and Ice back, along with 3 dynamic freshmen who should be able to contribute something right away. We lose Lou and Dorka. Ice and Ayanna can handle the post duties if Amari has not risen the level of her game by that time. I understand the challenges Amari is experiencing, but I'm NOT writing her off. We've only played 1 exhibition game so far. I'm still rooting and cheering for her, and hoping the best for her this year. :)

Yup. I agree. The play on the court will determine National Freshman of the Year honors.

Everything will be proven, or not, on the court not in the press
OI agree. All these wild projections are a waste of time. A player has to remain healthy and compete all year. Te awards will follow, or they wont. The important is; who is helping UCONN to become and remain a top team?

All due respect, you can't assume anything. Did you assume Paige and Ice would both be lost for this season? Why assume anything about anyone? We would b e interested in hearing from you , however, what you mean by , " I understand the challenges Amari is experiencing." What are they?

My response was to Fairfield's post: "Ayanna reminded me of a young Kalana Greene. Not great size, but a lot of fight underneath. Talented for sure. IF ONLY she could be teamed up with Ice!!!!" I agree with those sentiments. With all due respect, yes I can. I can assume anything. It does not mean my assumptions are correct, but I am allowed to assume and or guess just like any other posters here do. Look at all of the assumptions that have been made by numerous posters after 1 game.

IMO, Ice would have made a HUGE difference for us this year if she had been available all year. If she could have teamed up with Ayanna at times, they would have been a duo that would have been hard to beat. There will be games when her presence and availability would have been very useful. Now instead of 3 post players, the consensus is we have two.

As far as the challenges that Amari is experiencing, go back and read some of the posts and comments written about her the past 2 months. I'm not going to rehash them here. Some of the posters went in to great detail explaining what those challenges are.

Mike Voepel seems to think so. Philippou and Creme picked Kiki Rice from UCLA which is a really solid pick IMO.
Women's NCAA basketball picks, predictions and biggest questions as the season tips off
I think the probability of Ayanna being the Freshman of the Year is a slim proposition. She has energy galore, is willing to mix it up. She lacks experience, she lacks exposure to many other Bigs with substantial size width and height. She's a great Volley ball talent. The big question, not yet tested, is she capable of going against a 6ft 5, 190 pound athletic post? That has to be seen. Kutztown with two BIGs at 6 ft 2 inches wasn't much of a test. She is determined, she has energy, she can score. She had a nose for the basket. All are plus plus plus. Determination, an extra plus. Texas may answer the FPOY question

Carnac: Of course you may assume. You can't speculate on specific in the rules. But Assume is allowed.
My question is similar to that of the previous poster. What Challenges is Ameri facing that others are not or differently handling? Obviously, ICE and MAYBE the next year Frosh will make a huge difference, and MAYBE Ameri will have a light bulb go off in her head, but that bulb hasn't in 2 plus years. But Maybe's don't win games (unless you are cousin Maybe of Litttle forks, Tn 6ft 8 inches on the HS girls team)
What are the Challenges Ameri faces that you see and I don't? Ameri is fast approaching a Senior year, that year you got it or you don't --no messing around with 4 year Seniors.

Janiah Barker by far an away will win the award . She has the best opportunity with minutes and will be the go to player for the Aggies from day one along with the takeover ability . Regardless of any game flaws ESPN will drool over her as they are doing clark right now already starting the campaign as Caitlin Clark NPOY award winner smh . It's like the politics in WBB are just taking turns with spreading the wealth regardless of performance of the individual or the team they are on . Clark is a great scorer but the NPOY .....No , her team has not been a title contender and it looks the same this season as much as ESPN wants them to be . If Iowa wins the B10 Tourney that's going to be shoe in for NPOY for Clark. ESPN knows Iowa's chances of a FF are thinner than them losing in the 2nd round possibly even 1st round.

I respect you, enjoy your posts, this is not a KNOCK on you or your abilities. As the Poster you are responding to, I don't have the inclination to search hundreds of post to validate a new comment---again, no insult, FACT. Your statement about Challenges seemed to say ---CARNAC knows something I don't know, or didn't see. So, being the spoil sport I am, I wondered what that could be.
Again, Assume away. You have experience and history to back up your assumptions., Go for it. I won't stop reading your interesting post over this, but honestly, I still wonder what are Ameri's Challenges that other players are not having (yes an assumption) that I missed. No insult, no nasty comment intended, just asking.

Ayanna Patterson will not be freshman of the year for the simple reason that she will not be the focal point of the offense. I could see her possibly making an all-American freshman team acknowledgment.
This seems most reasonable for a rotation player.

I just wanna see Ayanna Patterson play against SC's Aliyah Boston!
Me, too... or more precisely against Victaria Saxton. One key element of Boston's game is having Saxton play next to her, someone stronger than most 4s. Not so in this matchup, though.

not 1 for the most probably to win the award . JANIAH BARKER of Texas A&M.
I'm curious about this one. Will Barker start? She looks promising.

The Freshman of the year will be Betts.
This is possible, though my guess is it will be undeserved if it happens. In the FIBA games, Betts was lumbering and slow, and mainly scored merely by being taller. When I compare her to Cardoso, I'm disappointed in what I see in Betts. Cardoso runs the floor well and has good around-the-rim skills. I was glad to see that Betts was more active in Stanford's exhibition game. But I can't see her starting, and is probably too slow to impress Tara, and unlikely to come off the bench before Prechdel.

Is Rice going to start at UCLA? I assume Osborne will be the starting pg. But Since Penn left, Rice could start at the 2, I suppose, if she beats out Jones. I like Rice's game, reminds me of Olivia Miles.

Rice started their first game and had 12/7assists. I didn't see it but I'm pretty sure she's their starting PG. Osborne has always been more of a score first player than a facilitator.
