Autry out at Syracuse

I saw on the Syracuse board that Luke Murray is a coach SU is considering. I am not sure if they reached out yet. Question for those in the know, is he a great recruiter, can he motivate and develop players? I understand he built UCONN offense but he works under Hurley who seems to be the great motivator. Can Luke do all of the other parts of a head coaching job or is he best served as an asset like Chris Daley?
only one way to find out... he and kimani have put in their time, IMO. we've been lucky to have them as long as we have. 2 nattys and whatever their respective records are since they joined hurley, is enough to earn them at least a shot somewhere, now.

if we manage to keep both of them, i'd consider that a miracle.

EDIT - i think this ^ unless there's a "succession" scenario at play in the near/mid-term, and i leave it at that.

would love to see GMac have a sweet run with Siena at NCAAT.
storybook finish - he gets the call back to cuse right after the saints lose in the sweet 16.

The new Syracuse AD was introduced today. He is the former AD at Toledo. Wants to weaponize the Dome for wins and NIL.

Yeah, nobody is going to the beach in the winter. Lived 5 minutes from the beach In MA, did not go there in the winter.

And I know I was often making the 4.5 hour trip to the beach when I was in VA. FYI, that state while not huge, is significantly larger than CT.
Ya missed the sarcasm

Unfortunate. I really enjoyed rooting for them.
Siena is one of those MAAC programs with fantastic fan/booster/leadership support, so I can see the team taking a smaller bump in the road than other mid-majors with their coaches heading to high-major jobs.

This would be PC’s best victory ever over the Cuse. Couldn’t happen to a nicer group of d-bags. Pitt and Cuse both had the gall to issue a press release that they were leaving the BE on the day Dave Gavitt passed. They are cursed forever.

How can McNamara not be the frontrunner after yesterday?

He'd have to take the job for money and nostalgia reasons, but nothing is going to revive that irrelevant, moribund program.
You sure. I bet he could get them to 6th or 7th in the Acc which would be a major improvement

Better jobs/programs in the ACC right now: Duke, UNC, Virginia, Louisville, NC State, Miami...should I continue...

Major improvement, sure. Still wouldn't be relevant either in the ACC or nationally.

Maybe the occasional 4 seed and second weekend appearance. Think in the category of a Creighton, Clemson, Oklahoma, Maryland. Programs you've heard of, but aren't going out of your way to tune into and not really giving another thought unless you're playing them.

The only thing they are known for is a big arena.

So should he stay at Sienna? I don’t understand the point here.

Agree. Was just being snarky

Maybe. The school is in some financial distress.

Syracuse might lose the battle and win the war here. McNamara can really coach.

Im not convinced the coach who just won a historically awful American conference and only has 3 years total experience as a head coach is the best candidate. Another thin resume if PC goes in that direction.

The only reason Cuse fans all convinced themselves Hodgson is amazing and no way they can hire McNamara is because Autry was such a bust.

Cuse should considered themselves lucky Gerry McNamara is out there

I know a kid thinking ab transferring to Cuse and says McNamara will be the guy.

Hodgson is made for Providence, we’ll be fine. Cuse is cursed

Hodgson is going to kill it at PC. I think the Big East is going to have a big resurgence. The coaching in the conference is excellent.

Hurley
Pitino
Willard
Hodgson
Smart
Holloway

Those are some good coaches. If the NIL is there, they will all put good teams on the floor. The relegation of the Big East to mid major status by some is a bit premature. Mid majors don’t hire coaches like these guys. When guys like Pitino Jr and Cooley are your worst coaches, you are doing pretty good.
