Autry out at Syracuse

Because he has only two seasons of head coaching experience and in his best season he went 13-7 in a weak conference with the highest NIL in the conference. I’m sure him being JB’s guy, after their last disaster with that, is not helpful. IMO it would be a really weak hire and very risky but it also doesn’t look like they have many good options
He also wasn’t particularly successful as a lead recruiter under Boeheim at Syracuse.

Let’s all be objective and remember that Storrs is not Miami.
Yeah, I've lived a bunch of places. Winter is cold and snowy in all of them, including Virginia. It isn't as long, but in the dead of winter, it still sucks. IL, MA, CT, NY, VA, all of them. Yeah, lake effect will dump 3 feet of snow on you in a day at times, but they'll also have that snow removed, and the roads clear in a day.

We'll see. There is some speculation that they didn't pony up enough cash for him to take the job, so they could always up their offer. Either way, SU is either too lame or too cheap to get a mid major coach. LOL!!!!
There aren't a lot of openings this year. I'm wondering if Hodgson is following the Dusty May route. South Florida isn't a bad gig (probably better than FAU was). Bet on yourself to keep things going until a real major team has an opening.

I guess if Providence goes all-in and throws a ton of money at Hodgson he may go there, but I wouldn't be surprised if he sticks around.

.-.
I stewed on this overnight. I might have jumped the gun on the schadenfreude. I’m not sure we know the entire story on the Hodgson situation. And I do believe that Melo and his donor pals are holding the all cards. I do think Nosepicker is in Melo’s ear to hire GMac. Remember, JB snubbed Hop as the coach-in-waiting after he essentially promised the job to Hop years ago. The new AD from Toledo isn’t making any decisions in this case. If Melo gets his way, I think they hire Hop, not GMac, which to me, puts the final nail in the CuseCoffin.

But I also believe there may be a wild card hire here that comes out of nowhere.

What could possibly go wrong?

You are way underselling GMac.

1. He took over a program that won 4 games the year before he got there.
2. He immediately improved them by 10 wins in his first year and this year he got them to 23 wins, a conference championship, and an NCAA tournament bud.
3. Yes, he only has 2 years of head coaching experience, but he had 15 years of experience before that. He’s not new to coaching.
4. Years of head coaching before taking over a major program are not necessary. Exhibit One: Tommy Lloyd has an .804 winning %, 4 trips to the tournament, and a1-seed this year in 5 years at Arizona. He had zero years of head coaching experience before he took the job at Arizona

And Cuse does have those lovely beaches in the summer…..

How do you rank his recruiting while an assistant under Boeheim?

Don’t get me wrong, it could work out well. I think he’s got a lot of potential. But as it stands right now, for a program of Syracuse’s history, it’s a HUGE risk to take a guy this unproven. There’s a reason he wasn’t their first or second choice…

Not a lot of openings? Been a fan since the 60’s and never I have seen so many coaches get fired.

But not a lot of the big programs. Look at the P4+Big East. Cinci, Providence, ASU, 'Cuse, GTech, BC, Butler, KState are the only "majors" and those are all mediocre teams in those majors. I think that's it.

Mediocre teams are the teams that fire coaches. Do you think teams that win will fire their coaches?

Damon Amendolara is a graduate of Syracuse. He says that it's mind- blowing that Hodgson said No to the Syracuse job, because he is from upstate New York. He talks about the amount of snow and says it takes a "hardy", resilient person to deal with it.

Hurley posted a very cryptic post on Instagram. Probably means nothing but thought I’d share.

It’s a catholic prayer but the message is (I’m paraphrasing) “blessed is the brother who loves his brother as much far away as nearby”

About Luke? Kimani? Bobby? Or just a prayer?

What is Amendolara doing these days? I remember him having a radio show on a Boston station about 20 years ago. I haven't seen or heard of him since.

I meant mediocre programs. The openings are with programs that are perennially mediocre. Programs that don't have the same money or interest to compete regularly at the top of their conference. Rather than jumping to a mediocre P5 where it will be hard to compete, maybe Hodgeson is going the route of waiting for the big job. Totally just conjecture.

Top programs do lose or fire their coaches. Just not this year. Michigan (the Dusty May hire), Kentucky, Texas, Villanova, Maryland (a couple times), Ohio State are a few that have turned over recently that I'd argue are bigger than what's out there right now.

I wonder why Kevin Ollie hasn't gotten another college job? How many coaches have won a national title, been relatively young and not gotten another job? You'd think he'd be a better coach with a second chance and learning from his mistakes, and he is sure a better option than some names I've seen. Is he working now? Imagine playing against PC with Ollie as coach?.... Giddy up.

It's not that hard to figure out why. You're a UConn fan so I assume you remember how it ended here

But outsiders may not..... 😉 I was a KO hater here (coined the "woe-is-me" face saying), but I'm still surprised he never got a shot somewhere else. I'm sure Bobby Hurley will get another shot and he hasn't exactly crushed it as a headcoach. I'm secretly hoping KO gets a shot so they don't hire someone on our staff....

He does do well on that court.
