August 2019 WNBA Discussions, scores, game info, pictures

LA improves to 17-10. Are they in the same strata as Washington, Connecticut and Las Vegas?

If you look at Net Rating, it's pretty clearly Washington and then everybody else. But strange things can happen in a short series.

The playoff should be pretty interesting now that we have:
  • A'ja Wilson back
  • Sparks fully healthy
  • Taurasi back
Also, note the clear stratification between playoff teams and lottery teams. The bottom 4 really earned their status this year.

Atlanta Dream also edged the Liberty 90-87. Nurse was kind of a now show with 7 points on 3-6 shooting and she was -15. Charles struggled percentage-wise, 15 points on 29.4%, with 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Tiff and Renee had 19 and 18 points respectively.

Chicago beat Washington. Mystics and Sun tied again atop the league standing. 1-5 are packed fairly close together, then another grouping at 6-8...then the bottom 4. I don't think there's much drama about any of those bottom teams sneaking in to grab the final playoff spot, would take a miracle for that to happen.

Normally do not mention referee debacles but a phantom call on Bria Hartley which may have cost them the game was one of the worst I have ever seen. On the other hand,. I have turned the corner and rooting for better draft position.

I think Vandersloot is now 18 assists away from breaking her own league record for single season total, w/ 6 games left.

Yeah, she is gonna smash the record. Such an under the radar superstar.

Possibly my favorite player in any sport right now. She is a joy to watch.

@eebmg If you need a large paper bag to cover your head, I have one you could borrow..... sure it might have the faint scent of hard apple cider and lamb soulvaki.... but its free ;):p:D:eek::rolleyes::)

... hard apple cider and lamb soulvaki. . Sounds like heaven.

Wow, somebody on another forum directed me to the Sky's twitter feed for a highlight play from Sloot. Very early in the game she had a jump ball against a post player she had no chance of winning against. Instead she made no attempt to jump but quickly ran behind and stole the back tap and got an uncontested layup. I didn't even know that was possible, never seen it before. Pretty awesome.

Mike Thibault didn't seem to think it was a legal play. He got a technical protesting it afterwards. Protesting something, anyway.

Was it legal vander sloot was the jumper and she was the first to control ball after it was tipped but ball never hit the ground

 Storm jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game against Indiana, all Fever since then. Cold shooting and one boneheaded pass after another leading to turnovers. They look absolutely awful. Indiana on a 23-8 run spanning parts of Q1 and Q2.

Taurasi is playing today. Has some rust to shake off, 2-12 from the floor.

McCowan is destroying Seattle. Russell matched up with her fairly well early on but when Mercedes went to the bench it was all over. 16 points 9 boards 7-8 FG w/ about 4 minutes til halftime.

Seattle started the game 3-3, they are 4-24 since. They are unwatchable today.

McCowan showing some 'tude. Threw Clark to the floor and then glared at her as she walked by.

Seattle absolutely can't shoot, getting a few trips to the FT line is the only way they can score.

Vandersloot racked up 13 more assists today, 5 away from tying her single season record, 6 from setting a new mark. Balanced scoring leads the Sky past the Mercury and Griner's 34 points. Chicago is streaking, won 11 of 14 if my math is right.

McCowan with 16 pts and 11 rbs at half and played all 20 minutes (looked a bit tired at end of half). Maybe a 20/20 game. How many of those in the WNBA?

Classic Vandersloot near triple-double of 9 pts, 9 rebs, 13 ast, zero turnovers.

Nice to see Quigley had a bounce-back game with 22 pts after getting shut down against Washington.

If Chicago keeps this level of play up through the end of the season, I think there's a very strong chance that James Wade wins Coach of the Year. Don't tell Katie Lou's mom.

Excited to check out a replay of this. Wasn't going to try to watch the Sky and do my fantasy football draft at the same time!

And two assists! (she had two assists the whole year until August 18).

Not a lot of people can do this:

Did you see what her left arm was doing to Russell in this clip? Refs are atrocious today. I had to quit watching in Q3. Mostly because of Seattle's shooting, but incompetence from the zebras is hard to stomach as well.

Come over to the Lynx game. Pheesa universally brilliant. :D:D:D

Aces look like they never got off the plane. I have never seen them so flat.

Minnesota is running away from Las Vegas in the 2nd half. I'm really not convinced Laimbeer is doing a good job of handling this team.

I was able to watch the Seattle game on a local station, but I don't have NBAtv. So no can do. Sounds like you're enjoying the show though.

edit--I'm gonna have to start a petition to get Plum out of LV. Bill loses confidence in her in a heartbeat from game to game. Looks like she's been benched the entire 2nd half today. It's not like Colson is producing at all either. She might not ever be an All Star level player but I don't think she's in the right place to thrive.

McCowan, Collier and Arike are really coming on strong to finish their rookie seasons. Bright futures ahead for all 3.
