Look on the bright side, with Hathaway Chuck Long would've been one of the finalists to be the head coach
 
Might there be a reason Long has been out of coaching for 2 years? Just sayin'.

Some guys are just not cut out for it. But they can make really good assistants.

I am ok with him as a QB coach. Looks like he hitched his wagon to Turner Gill after SDSU, and has been out of the college game since then. Former Broyles award finalist, coached Josh Heupel and was very successful at Oklahoma.

GREELEY – University of Northern Colorado head football coach Earnest Collins Jr., announced Friday the resignation of defensive coordinator Zach Shay.

Shay has served as the team's defensive coordinator the past three seasons and is leaving UNC to pursue other opportunities.

"I wish Zach the best of luck in all of his future opportunities," Collins said. "We are going to continue to move forward here at UNC and I appreciate what Zach has done in the last three years."

Collins will begin a search for a new defensive coordinator immediately.

I'm pretty sure the reason why coach D is waiting until the new year to name a coach is because that coach(s) are coaching in bowl games and he doesn't want to that up

Just from reading the posting for Asst. Coach and Chuck Long and Michael Haywood just came to mind? Nice stab at it but not likely. Neither would be a good pick for Uconn as both have tainted pasts and have been out of coaching for awhile. Long was a loser at SDSU and Haywood unfortunately had that situation at Pitt and although charges were dropped he has that stigma of having the shortest tenure as head coach - 16 days. Also, qualification don't require HC experience, but if it did then I'd hope Diaco had better candidates to choose from than these two. I thought these two guys and some others that were discussed last week on the ND board were interesting enough to mention on BY, but not better than TJ Weist. To let go of Weist, Diaco must have something better lined up.

Two very interesting names that have been brought in this thread are Brian Rock Kent State (meets every description of the job including a Masters) and Mike Cummings Central Michigan (doesn't match description exactly but close and also has a Masters). I like these two picks a lot.

I'm excited about the qualifications for these positions and can't wait to see who these guys are. It is great to see the university taking such positive steps to improve our lot.

Dude, most likely he already agreed to take the job, and the experience desired was written exactly for him. It's not a coincidence.

Unfortunately for you, Long makes sense here.. as QB coach at the very least. I'm not too excited to see him here as an OC but that wouldn't be a shocker if it happens, which would create a head scratching buzz around here... We gotta remember, this guy, if he's one of the hires, is an assistant coach... no more, so, maybe, with all his coaching experience, he could help us take that next step to becoming a respectable program ( bowl games ) year in and year out.

Amazing that we have not heard at least a few leaks about replacements.

I love that we never heard any leaks during the coaching search (other than incorrect speculation by bloggers and best writers). Hope we don't hear a peep until the actual names are announced.

One of my big takeaways from this hiring process is how well Warde, Diaco, the athletic dept, the agents and lawyers have shut out any leaks.

No one in the local press or national press has had any breaking news before the above mentioned people wanted it to be put out.

Demonstrates a cohesive group that has all of the key players on the same page.
 
The jobs are no longer posted (I wanted to see the OC and line up against a couple guys I'm thinking of), so we should have news very soon.

I saw that - they also added the Director of Football Ops and Director of Player Personnel (a completely new position for UConn Football) for positions to be filled .

DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL (Specialist IA)
University of Connecticut
Division of Athletics

Responsibilities include:maintaining recruiting database of prospective student-athletes including updating and streamlining information utilizing JumpForward; assist recruiting coordinator with team roster scholarship count to develop a list of future position needs; manage Assistant Director of Player Personnel and Assistant Director of Player Engagement; and other program duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach and the Recruiting Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor�s degree; collegiate playing experience; knowledge of the correct application of NCAA regulations; strong commitment to the academic goals of the University; and excellent organizational, teaching, communication and public relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications:four years recruiting experience for a Division I football program

Salary:Commensurate with experience.
 
UConn: Sources tell us Buffalo quarterbacks coach / recruiting coordinator Don Patterson will join Bob Diaco's staff at UConn.
