Check out this energy vampire.

@NoEscalators: Sigh RT @BobbyBigWheel: F+ rankings of CMU's offense when UConn's new coordinator was in charge there: 89, 78, 73, 110

Can anyone decipher what he means? In Diaco we trust!
The offenses ranking in the four years he was OC. Thats how I read it.

Doug Shearer - only grad assistant retained by Diaco.

Background article: http://www.nhregister.com/sports/20...-uconn-grad-assistant-turned-tight-ends-coach

Congrats to Doug, local guy from the valley starting his career. He now has the opportunity to see the styles as a grad ass't under a former unsuccessful coach and hopefully...
what will be freakin' great in coaching, recruiting and style of HCBD. Talk about "learning " what works and what doesn't.."big picture"......Best of luck Doug...same home town as Danny O'....

The issue is that Diaco has never been the head coach and this is his first time putting together a staff. Now he may know, like and trust these people. They may be wildly successful as a staff together. Or, it could go the other way. But, on face value alone, if Cummings is true as OC, it has some hollowness to it and certainly is not the splash people wanted. But check the thread below about Cummings from the Chips message board. And the hire from ND, a GA is not the same as hiring a position coach from ND.

There it is again. He does not call the plays. This has me concerned.

Can someone just tell me when it's time to panic? Should I do it now, or wait for a defensive coordinator, or is it something I can put off until the Spring Game?

I think we all fell in love with the work done by guys like Terry Richardson and Todd Orlando. I'm sure there are other guys out there that can coach winning football. Like I said earlier Diaco knows his arse is on the line. He doesn't want to flop in his first HC job. He is bringing in guys with similar philosophies and work ethic and hopefully we get results sooner than later. One thing Warde mentioned at the opening presser was that our assistant coach pool of money would be at the top of the American Conference. Can't ask for anything more than that given our financial situation.

Let's watch a few games before we get concerned. Deleone had a track record of calling plays. Didn't stop us from incurring false start and illegal motion penalties. We will see how good we are just by how organized the offense looks. It never looked organized GDL.

Lots of Buffalo and the MAC.

The MAC has produced very good coaches. They see Uconn as a step up. I am good with this. Plus buffalo has been pretty good under Quinn and his staff. Was at the ohio state game when BU played and they played them extremely tough.

I really hoped and expected a top notch mid major OC or a P5 QB coach to take the OC job. Diaco, as a young DC turned HC, could offer a lot of freedom to an OC and give that person a chance to shine. Plus, there is an incumbent QB that shows a lot of promise. I expected to get a lot of interest for that position.

Cummings put up over 30 points just twice last year, against two of the worst teams in FBS. CMU got held to 27 by Western Michigan, one of only 3 teams that WMU held under 30 points last year. I know he had a good 2012, but that was 2012.

It was also reported he lost his starting qb and rb in the first gamd last year. Dont enough about his roster at cmu to pit that all on him. Diaco didnt.

Diaco was the top assistant in the country in 2012. But that was 2012.

Cummings lost quite a few pieces from 2012 to 2013, I prefer to look at the full body of work, rather than the last 2 seasons. This is the boneyard, we should expect nothing but dissatisfaction, regret, and hand-wringing. We know better than Diaco, we have google and wikipedia.

I am very pleased. I will not pretend to know better than Coach Diaco who should be selected as his assistant coaches. I am simply happy that he is moving quickly to assemble his staff. Go UCONN!

I think many of you are just crazy.

Let me summarize ... these ACs are guys Diaco knows. They come from a common tree. One branch may be UBuffalo - THE State University of New York - but the more common thread is Brian Kelly & Jeff Quinn. We should be great with their work at Cincinnati & Central Michigan. And the ND piece.

Cummings & Foley come in targeted at our OLine where we have a Big 2014 question mark. I want them to come with a solid solution. Unlike DeLeone, 2 guys can work together in harmony. This also calls for solid OLine recruits NOW. JUCO if necessary.

Yes. It's a damn good thing if we have 3 guys who've been Recruiting Coordinators. We need to finish this coming signing day with 6-8 solid kids. There are lots of movements in the last few years in January. These guys - Buffalo, UConn, CMU, ND - need to know the good targets NOW.

We are going to be a Program that finds raw kids and develop them. Don't expect 4/5 Stars. Now, who has the Florida connection.

So a coach is supposed to lose his starting QB, RB and 4 starters from the OL and shine. What a loser Cummings must be. I believe they put up 30 ten times in 2012, but hey...that's 2012.

From something I posted way back a few pages by now Pudge - >>FWIW from an article I read back when he was hired @ CMU: "Based on the players that Mike Cummings recruited at Marshall, it looks like we might have a foothold in the great state of Alabama. 42% of the players Cummings recruited at Marshall were from Alabama. Western Pennsylvania and Florida also seem to be strong areas for Cummings."<<

What were Richardson's and Orlando's credentials prior to joining Edsall's staff? Was anyone worried when they were hired?

The CMU fans seem to think that Cummings was the top coach on their staff, that's good enough for me. He is also known as a good recruiter which seems to be a common thread with everyone on the staff Diaco is building. As far as play calling goes, Day never called plays until this year and he did a good job, play callers tend to look as good as the talent they have, especially QB talent.

My immediate hope is that each coach Diaco is bringing in can bring a recruit or two with them. Right now Ball State is the only MAC school with a higher rated recruiting class than CMU.

BTW Eric Fisher is a pretty good player.
