Ha ha - I thought the layup comment was about Andre.
As for Putvis, my first observation is he lacks confidence with the off hand - and that sets him up to get his shot blocked easily. So he needs to develop the off hand.
Additionally, I have not asked anyone what the measurement is - but it appears that his arms are disproportionately short for his height- so even on strong hand lay ups he can not extend with the arm as some guys can. I think to compensate sometimes he throws his off left shoulder into the defender, which can bring a foul or makes the shot even more off balance.
One way Coach Blaney use to say one could efficiently improve on lay ups is to improve on foul shotting since a decent percentage of lay ups end in foul shots. I do think Purvis did improve his foul shotting as last season went on - so he should continue that.
A final point and this is very basic - he needs to keep his head and eyes up - it should improve his percentage but also it makes you look more under control and you get the border calls rather than a charge.
