Elijah Hood's stats have yet to be updated but he has 3,638 yards to end the season. It will likely come down to Tre Watson and Arkeel for the top stop. Both play in championship game this weekend. Watson's Centennial team will be facing the #1 ranked team in the country.

Arkeel Newsome leads Ansonia to 51-12 victory over Woodland Regional. Ansonia (15-0) wins it's 43rd straight game and a 3rd straight State Title (one in Class M and 2 in Class S).

Newsome finishes the season with 333 carries, 3,867 yards (state record), 64 rushing TDs (state record), and 68 total TDs (state record).

For his career, 943 carries, 10685 yards (11.33 yd/c), 187 total TDs
 
Centennial's Tre Watson currently sits 369 yards behind Newsome for the national rushing title. Centennial takes on St. John Bosco (#1 team in the nation) tomorrow night at 7:30pm.

Watson has 371 carries, 3,498 yards, 48 TDs on the season.

UConn commit Arkeel Newsome found the end zone four times and threw a touchdown pass as he ended his incredble high school career by leading Ansonia to its third straight state championship and 43rd win in a row.

Newsome ran 34 times for 259 yards and had scoring runs of 6, 2, 8 and 3 yards to go with an 11-yard touchdown pass as Ansonia defeated Woodland 51-12 to win the Class S title Friday night.

Newsoime broke his own state record for rushing yards in a season as he finished with 3,867 yards on 333 carries with 64 touchdown runs and 68 total touchdowns scored. It was the 26th time during the 43-game winning streak that Newsome ran for more than 200 yards in a game.

Here's a partial list of the Connecticut records he holds since I don't think there's enough time in the day to list every record he leaves Ansonia with. National rankings according to NFHS record book in parenthesis.

Newsome, unofficially, will complete the 2013 season as the nations leading rusher.

Newsome finished the season with 3,867 yards, to Watson's 3,772.

Tre Watson's (224 yards, 2 TDs) Centennial team was beaten by top-ranked St John Bosco, 70-49 in the CIF Open Semi-Finals. St John Bosco was led by super-soph Sean McGrew (5'7, 174). Running behind a mammoth offensive line, including 6'5, 323-pound, Damien Mama, McGrew carried 17 times for 366 yards, 6 TDs. He also had a TD reception.

St John Bosco (15-0) will face De La Salle (14-0) in the CIF Open State Championship Game, Saturday, 8PM

He was named to Walter Camp all-state team (although that listing seems to indicate it was put together by folks reading a paper and not actually watching the play on the field). I cant wait to see if his game translates to this level - would be great on so many levels to see a local kid play well on the big stage for State U.

"The U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection Committee is comprised of All American Games (game producer), 247 Sports, and its regional coaching network."

He was nominated and as you point out even won a weekly award. Of the 5 Running Backs taken for final roster for the East squad - 2 are from GA and 1 each from NC, TN, and FL.

Autry from GA is going to FSU, Chubb from GA is going to UGA, Hood from NC is going to UNC, Hurd from TN is going to the Vols and Michel from FL is going to UGA.

Hope he uses the snub as motivation.

I'm sure those guys are fine players and it's tough to choose between them. I hope you're right about the snub and a chip on the shoulder. If it was simply a regional bias it would be interesting to follow the careers of the other guys and see how it plays out. I'm not sure how much the game benefits the future schools, but in our case I'd rather have the introduction be in UConn Blue when he takes the first one in for 6.

I'm convinced he can get it done at this level and think he could help us right away as a KR and put in special situations depending on the depth chart. He'll still need time to settle in before he lights anything up but you can see the instincts are there.

I hope he realizes that staying home and going to UCONN was not the source of the "snub". But also hope he plays with an extra large chip on his shoulder, as if it was.

If he was a couple inches taller and played in Texas putting up similar numbers he'd be the #1 recruit in the country. I can't to see what he can do at the next level as a UConn Husky.

And good thing he lives in CT! Look at Jonathan Gray the #1 recruit from two years ago (class of 2012). RB out of Texas and signed with Texas. Had some incredible HS numbers as well.
 
Congrats to Arkeel, named in Sunday's N.H. Register as state player of the Year. The Register had its complete pictorial announcement of its h.s. all-state team in yesterday's edition. State Coach of the Year went to Southington's Mike Drury.
