"He has great vision," Masuk coach Dave Brennan said of Newsome, who had five runs of at least 25 yards Thursday. "He's got great, great feel and understanding of where the field is, where his blocking schemes are, and how to attack them. That's difficult.

"You don't teach vision, that's just a natural thing for an athlete of Arkeel's ability."

"If you watch him every Friday, that's Arkeel Newsome," Brockett said. "He's heard a lot that he can't do it against a big school or a two-platoon defense, and all that stuff. He's one tough hombre. I've heard people say that he can only run outside. I don't know what they watch."

McKnight sprinted down field after handing the ball to Newsome and made one of the blocks that helped seal the edge.

"We feed off his energy," McKnight said. "He's a tremendous back and an all-around athlete. He can cut it anywhere he wants. His vision is crazy."

Newsome looks great to me. Looks like a much better prospect to my untrained eye, than montrell Dobbs.

You have to love his vision and knowing how to use blockers for those longer runs. He may be smaller than Outlow but I wouldn't trade him straight up for Outlow.

Another look:

I really like Ansonia OL/DL, #66 Ryan Hovan (Sr., 6'5, 230). Great size, great motor. Missed all of last season with a broken leg. Has room to add size to his frame, very good athlete, very good student.

Heck at this point - I think Newsome should just bring Butch Marazzi with him as package deal ;) !

For those interested....Here's a great mid-season recap of the CTHS Football season, from the boys at the New Haven Register.

Gonna have to make those yards up somewhere!

He'll have his chances to pick up an extra 200 somewhere.

Ansonia's victory was it's 36th straight, tying the school record set from 1975-1978. Cheshire holds the state record at 49 (1994-1997).

Who was the last 3 star halfback recruit to come to UCONN? Was it Todman?

Freshman Josh Marriner was a 3* recruit on ESPN and 247 Composite (combines all scouting sites).

CCA smoked a pretty good New London team then played a bunch of teams never seen in lower FFC except maybe Abbott Tech. They must have some talent but weak sauce of a schedule. On the other hand, Ansonia not really tested with Masuk having an off year. Still have to feel coach is being smart with Arkeel and his players for the playoffs where they should be big favorites.
