Arizona Post Game Thread

Yep, Hartford would have been a lot louder.
Yeah what a moribund crowd. The ratio of the quality of our crowds relative to our success has to be one of worst, I just don’t get it. Do people think they are at a Broadway play or something? Crowds are better at neutral sites, it’s embarrassing.

Being out rebounded by 20 is the worst disparity in Hurley coached UConn team.

Casey Jacobsen thinks Arizona is second most physical team behind Houston. Peet was obviously a load tonight.

Recruiting him because he out played Samson Johnson was a bad choice in hindsight.
3rd center who when the team is healthy isn't expected to log minutes in real games, it's slim pickings at that point tbh

Silas was too passive until the team got in a hole. This can’t happen, especially down key starters. He needs to start being a little bit more selfish and aggressive. Didn't draw many fouls, but I liked his mid range game in the second half. It’s early and that pulse on the offense will get better.

Idk what kind of shaman/exorcist we need to get Solo’s shooting back but I’m in to try anything lol.

I saw the “punked” and “dominated” headline and thought UConn lost by 25. Not a game where UConn led by 2 with 2:16 left.
Yep. As far as losses go, this one in mid November down two starters to a top 5 Arizona team when we had a lead with 2 minutes to go doesn't bother me all that much. We showed heart and talent, and Reibe grew up.

My original point is that AZ is a great team, to LongJohns dismay. That they will only get better because they’re young, and kids like Burries haven’t clicked yet.

Burries was high on all early mocks because of his HS ranking in this class. These things move around by the week based on how a kid is playing, others are playing. Mullins hasn’t moved off his HS ranking because he hasn’t played. But you two eagle eyed scouts, true bird dogs, are saying a kid ranked higher than Mullins is worse than Mullins based on 4 games he played and zero games Mullins has played, Now that is hysterical.
Because some UConn fans are not objective and how dare we saying anything not positive.
I can always spot the posters who have accomplished little in their own lives or are unhappy about their unfulfilled potential.
Sounds like you, you spot it you got it

Not dumb. My point is they weren't playing so they didnt affect whether we won or lost. We regardless had a good chance to win, and would have if we shot better than 50% FTs.
Or had 5 more rebounds, or their 46% foul shooter doesn’t make everything, or ir we actually shot better. I guess it was a moral victory for some. As soon as I heard Reed wasn’t playing I figured we’d get blown out. Reibe showed some improvement, but everyone else seemed to take a step back. Hoping Mullins can shoot.

Just got back from my 3 hour drive home from Gampel and am exhausted so only 2 thoughts for now.

Atmosphere was unbelievable the whole night, the fans were into it and ready to explode the whole night but until the last 5 minutes or so we could never get a stop after a basket.

We absolutely win that game with Reed, and very easily could have won without him. This is one of the best teams in the country

If UConn was at full strength the game never would've been close.

We win with Reed, we probably win by double digits with Reed and Mullins.

I echo those who are feeling similar sentiments in this aftermath to where we were after losing to KU in ‘23. If there’s ever a semblance of a moral victory, it’s after a game like that in freaking November.

All to play for going forward, and there may not be many teams in the country who will even give us a game once we’re at full strength. Just for the love of God tape those ankles up!

No, but it’s been literally 4 games. We’re all calling Mullins a lottery pick too, or at least SuperJohn is. Has he shown any signs of that in exhibition? We are going off HS tape and word of mouth. How is Burries any different? Over 4 college games? Was Castle a 4th pick of the draft 4 games in? Lots of season to go.

The problem is the flashes the other 10-15 freshmen have shown, not necessarily even just how average Burries has been. I'm not kidding that 10-15 freshmen have been simply fantastic so far this year. It's a freaky good class.

Petterson, Dybantsa, Boozer, Ament, Acuff, Cenac, Brown, Wilson, Peat, Thomas, Yessoufou, Fleming, Avdalas are thirteen freshmen I'd put ahead of him right now.

Then you have two unknowns who basically ranked around the same as him in high school in Arenas and Mullins. Even if you put them at the same level as him based on high school tape alone, that's still potentially pushing him further down. I have no clue how people will evaluate Arenas but I wouldn't be shocked if he tests the waters if he heals in time for the draft.

Some may think a player like Khamenia has more potential than him also.

Then you have sophomores, juniors and seniors and Euros. At least a few will be ahead of him.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, or that he can't improve, I'm just saying there are some really good freshmen who I'm sure NBA teams are drooling over having. He's not in that group and he has an uphill battle to join it.

He gets a pass because hes still clearly finding his way in this new offense, new team and getting on the same page with Dan Hurley. Remember how rough it was in the beginning with Newton?

Yup. Two absolutely horrible possessions late. Terrible shot by Solo and the possession where Silas turned it over was doomed before his turnover. Disappointed but feeling really good about this team. We`ve got a solid back up at the 5 who can make an impact and with Tarris and Mullins back and healthy this team can beat anyone.
Looking at the replay, Silas was fouled hard on that play- he clearly got bodied, but there was no call.

Its a game against a top 5 team. You play in the game unless you can't walk. Thinking this might effect him later in the season is scared Thinking

He has a tendency to just pound the ball and not pass it. There were times where he literally ran all over the court dribbling for 20 seconds. He needs to stop playing as if he’s at Dayton and realize that his job is to make assists not pound the ball.
Posters here have a recency bias where because he played well in the last five minutes they talk about him having a good game but he actually had a bad game except for the last five minutes.
He had 8 assists… the next most from a player on EITHER team was 3

Sure he can clean up the dribbling on a couple of possessions, but get some facts
