Arizona Post Game Thread

Post game presser Hurley said he didn't realize how bad he was hurt until.........Monday night. Bizarre.
Totally bizarre. What were the trainers doing in all the days after the BYU game??? They didn’t look at his ankle after the BYU game? They didn’t treat him after the BYU game? There’s a huge game coming up against Arizona and the training staff is doing what??? putting together their Thanksgiving meal menu??
Yeah I know I’m sounding like a jerk but WTF?

Just about every mock has him late lottery to low 20s. Frosh guards sometimes need time to assimilate. He’s not in that group of freshmen that can walk in the door and be amazing in instantly, but the kid is super talented. 247 has him ranked ahead of Peat. He’s multiple spots ahead of Mullins. Let me guess, Mullins is better? AZ had the second best class just behind Duke. These teams usually get better as the season ages.

The last thing I do is listen to the white noise of boneyarders who think they’re smarter than national scouts who do it for a living.
Burries will not be a lottery pick.

Appealing to mock drafts on November 19 is hilarious

It's just a stacked field this year for the lottery solely from the freshmen persepective. That's not even including upperclassmen and Euros. I'd say 10-14 freshmen go before him at least. Mid-late first round is my guess. He just doesn't look great so far.

Appealing to some dude named KingAGs opinion over national scouts and talent evaluators is even more hysterical.

The wannabe scouts on this board crack me up.

Tough loss to a good team, well coached with some future NBA guys playing tonight.

We were exposed down low tonight. Reibe did did well, but he couldn't do it alone. The made a lot of dribble drives to the hole as expected with Reed out.

Karaban. You expect more out the senior. 8 points and only 2 three point attempts 👋 . He should be taking a lot more than 2 three pointers.

Silas made poor defensive decisions and got into needles foul trouble. He needs to be more disciplined.

On to the next game.
I don't think he was brought in for offense. He was brought in for defense and rebounding and did fine. He is our 3rd sring Center and undersized. Not sure what you expected out of him.
He is shorter than Karaban!

.-.
When is Mullins going to play? Need a guy who hits 3s consistently.
Maybe Furphy? Don't wanna hear about his defense. He can't be worse than some of the efforts I saw tonight. And just maybe, he hits a few three that Solo, Karaban, Demery and Ross didn't. Why not find out? When UConn recruited him they made it sound like he was a Mullins clone.

Go look up the lottery on November 19 last year and tell me nothing changed.

It’s November 19.

He’s more likely to lose his starting spot than he is to go in the lottery in a insanely top heavy draft class.

Remember when Liam McNeeley and Boogie Fland were lottery picks in November

No, he had a really good game. He should've had 10 or 11 assists and was our best on ball defender in his 17 minutes.
I’ll take your word for it, would have to go back and rewatch the game to know.

Maybe it didn’t happen as often as it felt like to me but it seemed like there were too many times where he needed to keep the ball moving rather than monopolizing it, draining the shot clock.

It sucks to lose but as far as losses go I’m not too broken up about that one. Arizona was better tonight and deserved the win. They look like a Final Four team to me.

UConn played a scrappy game down 40% of their starting lineup and had a chance to steal one on a night when some guys they needed to be lights out without Reed just weren’t. Some of you sound predictably ridiculous.

This was a great night for Reibe that will pay dividends down the road. We were certainly overmatched in the front court but this was a big step forward for him.

And since I can’t conceivably care less what some YouTuber named Greg says about Burries’s draft position I don’t think there’s going to be much more worth reading in this thread.

Obviously upset that we lost a winnable game but overall not too worried about it.We got significantly outplayed for about 5 minutes to start the second half. For the other 35 minutes it was pretty even while missing our starting center and our 5* freshman

We got outrebounded by 20. I’m okay chalking that up to missing Tarris and moving on

We missed 9 FTs in a 4 point loss. That’s a big one. 7 of those 9 misses were Reibe (33% FT shooter) and Koroma (49% career FT shooter). I know what they’ll be working on tomorrow

Solo has a buy game to find his shot. He’s really struggled from three and now it feels like he’s rushing and losing confidence (hunting for fouls). But that midrange is money

Silas is the real deal. He’s going to be so good.

Shoutout Reibe. He was thrown in a really difficult position tonight. He certainly had his mistakes but he was growing up in real time. Buying stock on him

Shrug and move on. That was a fun game to watch. Let’s go Huskies!
This a refreshingly measured response. I loved the early positivity in this thread then just hit a dumpster fire of Solo bashing that I can’t abide. Solo’s the man. We ought not lose faith. That was a shot that, if it goes in, no one here even sniffs the idea of it being a bad selection.

.-.
This thread is way too kind to Karaban tonight. For a decorated senior….at home…against the #4 team in the country? He had 1 pt in the first half. That’s inexcusable.

He’s a complimentary player? What or who did he compliment tonight? He’s been in this intricate offense for 4 years and he can’t get shots in half court sets? Okay. So let’s just hope everyone else gets better and he chips in when he can.

No, but it’s been literally 4 games. We’re all calling Mullins a lottery pick too, or at least SuperJohn is. Has he shown any signs of that in exhibition? We are going off HS tape and word of mouth. How is Burries any different? Over 4 college games? Was Castle a 4th pick of the draft 4 games in? Lots of season to go.

You’re proving my point. I’m appealing to my eyes. You’re appealing to a November mock draft based off of HS rep. It’s dumb. But just to tickle your fancy:

ESPN doesn’t even have him in the first round. Braylon Mullins 14th

Just chiming in here to endorse another rational perspective! Well put.

Frustrating on so many levels because we would've rolled that team if we were at full strength. Refs were bad and then Eric who was our player of the game has the ball roll off the rim in what should've been an and 1 to tie the game and then missed his ft's. Everyone needs to rally around Eric and let him know he's the reason we were in position to win that one.

The loss means nothing because we are nowhere near healthy but a missed opportunity to let everyone know we're the best team in the country. So bullish on this team, now get healthy and no more injuries.
At the end of game, looked like Reibe was really taking the loss to heart and beating himself up a little.

Kid was thrown into fire, and played way above expectations. Great learning for him. Lot of upside there.

Plenty can change - but you’re telling me you know his development path. You don’t know squat about what he’ll be by end of year. Kid was the 9th rated kid in that stacked class. Maybe he drops, sure. Maybe he figures it out and takes off. Seems based on those who have watched him closely, he’s got great potential.

It’s no diff than SuperJohn being sure as sh$t that Mullins is lottery.

I cringed at that shot by Ball as well, but I wouldn't kill the guy for it - he's our best perimeter weapon and he saw some daylight - you tell a guy to have that confidence, so it's not going to disappear in the crunch time if you're lucky. I'd rather him have that confidence, but now recognize via film session that he could have gotten a better one.

The most concerning thing for me is the percentage of those going in for him. He is officially struggling from 3.
Which is exactly why he shouldn’t have been taking a rushed, contested 3 pointer. You answered your own question.

I hate to bang on a 3rd string center but I gotta see the tape on how Koroma scored dbl figures against power conference schools multiple times last year, it doesn't even look like he's trying to put the ball in the basket with these shot attempts and FTs. With Reed and Reibe healthy that won't be a concern but damn that's a rough watch.
He looks like he is throwing a fastball towards the basket.

You called him a lottery pick. Where he isn’t seen as that anywhere right now. You then compared him to Braylon who is on every lottery mock. You decided to appeal to mock drafts and now you’re saying they can change. Lmao. He doesn’t look like a lottery pick. And I don’t think he will be this year. Now have fun with your mock drafts and your “experts” that disagree with you. Lmao

Being a bit greedy here but if you come back to take a lead with under 2min left in Gampel, you need to finish it off for the win.

Not crushed by this loss but we really should have come out with a W.

Solo made a really bad decision hucking up a horrible 3 attempt so early in the shot clock. But it’s something he’s been doing too much this year. He’s shooting so poorly because his 3pt shot selection is so much worse this year than last year. I’d surmise 10-15 of his attempts this year have been low-percentage attempts. And his obsession with hunting fouls on 3’s is bizarre. Please stop.

Those of you throwing shade at Stew and Ross must have been watching some other game. They didn’t have amazing games, but they did just fine. Stew especially.

Smith is frantic too often, but he made some GREAT assists and clutch plays. Crazy he’s our 2nd string PG.

Our big-time players didn’t show up tonight like they did against BYU. Part of it was just not having Reed to open up the offense for Silas & Alex. Arizona could get away with tight perimeter D. But they both still kinda underperformed. It happens. They’re humans not robots.

LOVED what Reibe brought. That last shot he made a great effort just to get it up to the rim after getting raked across the forearm. Tough missing those FTs but I bet he’ll be better going forward.

I love the overall long-term outlook for this team.
I didn’t see anyone bash Stew. Thought he had a solid game. Ross on the other hand was a ghost

And what is ESPN using to evaluate Mullins? The BC tape?

BRs last mock has Burries at 23, after his first 4 lousy games. Point here is he’s talented and his stock is at a low point. And AZ is a very good team already that should only improve with three highly rated and talented freshmen.
