In college, one of my "less than responsible" choices was to take an elective course in... you'll never guess... puppetry. (I know)
Some of the course involved working with Rufus and Margo Rose. We'd go to their house and learn the art of marionettes. Rufus was the operator of Howdy all through the life of the show.
Not only do I remember Howdy, but I've operated him myself.

Oh my. I sure do remember all of above. And as a kid, be a kid. No cello or computers. So we had to do it face to face. Loved it so I guess it makes me older than dirt

All of those things existed while I did. Some lingered longer than others. I think milk delivery was the first to disappear. When I was in maybe 2nd grade the milk delivery person would occasionally give a few kids a ride in his truck to his next stop. The truck was full of ice to keep the milk chilled and on a hot summer day it felt like heaven.
