Cranky moment - Diaco did nothing but kill this program. Before he ever put a team on the field the a**hole put us behind the rest of the conference and out peers. When the AAC was spread offenses and speed, this idiot was recruiting 20 tight ends - his goal was recruiting a bunch of kids 6'4" -6'7" and either fill them out to be linemen or slim them down to become linebackers. What they weren't were fast or athletic enough.

We can all complain about Pasqualoni- he was a much better recruiter than Diaco but his program management was 15 years behind the times at the time of his hire.

RE rarely got studs. He got kids he could build and mold. They redshirted. The combination of the 3 got us into this situation. But for the love of g-d- how Warde Manuel got snookered by that weirdo is beyond me. So please, can we ban the name Diaco from this board forever!!! Have him known as the WTF - it is fitting.

These folks are doing great work. Check them out (They have vetted through UConn Compliance, etc...)

Medic - are you saying I should reach out to this group to ask for tickets for local youth groups or was this just an example of a group getting it done?

It seems chief already has an in with Uconn doing this previously so hoping he gets me on board with who he worked with.

There is no reason UConn cant give away a 1000 tickets a game next year.

Appreciate any further info if you have it.

Just sharing... these folks are trying to build the next gen Husky fans through game exposure. They do appear to be looking for connections w/ worthwhile groups.

Diaco has never coached in NFL, randy has. NFL is a higher level than college
Sure, but purportedly "Bob was making it competitive the last two stops he's made since UConn ..." Well, it's TBD for the WTF non-coaching defensive specialist tossed more responsibility when OU DC Mike Stoops was run off mid-season. However, most Nebraska fans have nothing but disastrous recollections of Bob's competitiveness.

I'm not disagreeing with you on Edsall, but getting a good coach like the kind you're talking about requires $$$. I want to know where the $$$ is coming from. This isn't a KO/Dan Hurley situation at all.
For a while there early on you did say we were stuck with Ollie no matter what though. The situation is obviously awful but tying your entire program to a failed coach is program suicide. Edsall blows, if they are sticking with him no matter what I would rather them just get rid of the program than the long painful bleed.

So how do you fix this mess? Give Randy a few more years to build up to 6-6?

You call BS on his excuse that this is a five year rebuild. It's utter and complete nonsense. He misjudged several things upon his return, including the competitiveness of the conference and our tolerance for a second rebuild for the last rebuild that failed.

The message to him needs to be that he has 2 years to get us to .500. Find out how to do it. Less than 3 wins next year and he's gone. Might that sacrifice some of what he wants the program to be 5-6 years from now? Maybe. Don't care. Win more games immediately. It is what is required.

If word gets out (and it will) that he has two years to get to .500, it would make recruiting that much harder. Why would a player, or his family, feel comfortable knowing that they are signing on with a coach who may be gone for their last two years. Especially seeing that sometimes coaches will play their recruits ahead of the previous coach’s recruits. There needs to be, at least, the image of continuity in the organization.

Here is the problem that I can't square up in my head. I've agreed we can't get rid of Edsall now. We don't have the money and buying out a 3rd guy in 3 years just looks bad. But I have no confidence that Edsall can succeed. He can't coach a game and when he fails he blames the players. The apologistas hang their hat on his ability to coach up hidden gems but I don't trust his ability to unearth hidden gems anymore; much less coach them up. I can't understand how anyone gives more weight to pre-2011 Edsall performance than his 2011-on performance. He's been a lousy coach for 6 straight years now, year 7 will be the turnaround?

Before 1999, I had plenty of experience rooting for lousy teams. But I could always gin up hope, I could always envision a route to success in my mind. But I don't see even a flicker of hope here, based mainly on Edsall's own words. His constant whining and complaining that only serves the purpose of making sure everyone knows that Randy doesn't think any of this is his fault. Many a truth is spoken in jest and I think that was the case when Randy yelled, "Fire me!" I think I've talked myself wanting AD Dave to give HCRE 2.0 what he wants.

I don't get you or this thinking.

NO INSTITUTION WALKS AWAY FROM A $400m INVESTMENT.

This is not just about the annual shortfall. It is far-reaching. About Brand and our entire future in Athletics. The very idea that the Big East is a better landing zone is wrongheaded. Edsall sold himself this time on precisely the path he is on: and any of us with a roster could see on August 1, he had very little assets to build on from Diaco. I have more fingers than real solid upperclass football student-athletes from Diaco.

Same with Jeff Jacobs. You aren't exactly doing Bain Capital type thinking (and methinks Jacobs has far better access to numbers and real skilled financial minds than me) when you write that Yahoo internet type column about killing programs. Mike diMauro?> It is time to do this. Because there is far too many people talking out of their buttcheeks.

My entire existence on this board is an attempt to make @CTMike feel better about himself, so here goes nothing:

I really do believe that this team is built for 2020. I think that we are going to see a performance in 2020 that will likely lead to us bowling. Edsall's plan seems to be to take a bunch of lumps this year and next in order to accomplish it. That's evidenced by how many RSJrs are leaving the program, among other things.

Is 2019 going to be painful again?? Umm....give me a few months to power up so that I can be more cheerful. But in 2020, when a bunch of this current 2-deep are Jrs and Srs, it's going to have a much different feel. I'm confident of that. But man, next year though...
Uconn should invest in a blow up doll company, because if we start out 1-3 next season you’ll need them

Also how about if you buy your tickets through the Uconn Athletics site, they come with a parking pass. This would sell way more tickets even if the people on stubhub have to eat them and noone goes. Parking is as expensive as the tickets.

"play ball", eh? Looking askance at pitifully low, anyone's admitted academic standards is reasonable, e.g., Louserville CC, Memphis JC, and Houston High, but UAB doesn't even need to "play ball". Almost anyone with even the weakest of a pulse is admitted. Not to UAB Hospital's Level 1 trauma center, but to the undergrad school. Yup, football players included! ;)
Should we be calling Louisville Louserville CC? I mean they are P5. I think UConn is not going to lower admission standards to help the football team.

No, not Louserville yet loserville applies unless Petrino, Pitino, prostitution & pitiful practices are inexplicably desirable. To each his own; beauty's in the eye of the beholders.
