Archbishop Mitty / Morgan Cheli (merged)

thank you for the easy link connection! All these teams in the OPEN DIVISION are
very good. Camas has 4 players at 6' 0" or taller (eg Addison Harris) but
Camas' point guards are much smaller than Morgan ( Morgan is 6'1", or 6' 2" if you believe
the MITTY H.S. Roster, I don't). The Camas' PG are # 3 Riley Sanz 5' 8" a senior
and # 35 Kaira ? Thompson also 5'8", a junior. LET THE GAME BEGIN!!

Thanks for sharing the games. I love Morgan's relentlessness. I will definitely watch these games later. Right now, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives is calling me.

Morgan Cheli and Mitty win 77 - 45 over Camas (WA). By the periods:
Mitty 25 - 15, Mitty 35 - 26, Mitty 54 - 43, and would believe the FINAL 77 - 45!
Camas scored two points with 13 seconds left in the game!
Next up Clackamas with Jasmine "Jazzy" Davidson tonight at 11PM EST.
Clackamas defeated Benson yesterday 69 - 64. So, it will be # 33 Morgan
Cheli (with help from #20 McKenna Woliczko (UCONN POI) vs # 33 Jazzy Davidson.
The announcer's comment on Morgan from last night's game: "They (Camas) have not
got an answer for Cheli! Morgan Cheli is relentless and tenacious". Go future Husky!
Go Mitty Monarchs! Go Morgan and McKenna (" M&M"). The live streaming and replay should be
found at: POA HOLIDAY CLASSIC 2023 OPEN DIVISION Game 8 and Game 12 ( tonight's game ).
See the easy link earlier in this thread by Cornell Lt, # 32. Thanks for the tech support, Cornell Lt.!!

....and it looks like she has a UCONN personality already!
This is one of the best highlight reels that I have every seen. ( sure I exaggerate, but ...) See thread above # 21
for the link, connection.
A few things of note: I would entitle this reel as "Many MITTY passes make great offense".
Then there was the sequence of Morgan and McKenna on the bench together, the
title there might be: " M & M on the same page... on and off the court!".
And lastly how Morgan makes everyone on the team more effective. She is very quick
bringing the ball up the court in transition and with her height, 6'1",
she has great court vision for those entry passes. ( Are you listening, Sarah??)

It came to me watching the Camas game how to describe Morgan -- if Aubrey had the mentality of a PG, she'd be Morgan. It's the energy she displays all the time, constantly pushing the pace, but doing it with a 6'2" frame, challenging opposing defenses to deal with her play after play. That feels rather like Aubrey.

.-.
She is a four tool player. Had a real good game that believe it or not could have been better. She had one"Where am I going " moment for a turnover and miss bunnies and foul shots. Hope they're never in a close game. Lots of missed free throws last night.

Aubrey played point guard on her high school team

there were a lot of tired legs in that game.
... and Mitty played a high energy pressing/trapping defense for almost the entire game. They sub a lot, except for Morgan who is on the game for almost the entire time. If she still has legs for a pressing defense this evening, it will speak volumes about her conditioning.

Just watched the game and a couple of points: I know it a high school game but you would have thought listening to the broadcasters that Camas had brought their own crew; Morgan is a great floor leader and as a PG, which she plays, absolutely controls the game; Morgan plays the game much like KK and Ash-constant movement and doesn't seem to wear out; and Small Sample Size Alert---. she did not look to be anywhere close to Ash as far as shooting, closer to the level of KK
I think someone described her as a Sabrina O type player, but again, based on this game only, she showed all the floor and leadership qualities of Sabrina, but not as good of a shooter. Of course, I was watching a HS player vs my recollections of SO who I first saw in college.
Morgan does seem to be a perfect fit for UCONN as a team first player.

She didn't shoot well in this game, but she scored through sheer determination. But I think @Zarathustra has a point, that this was the second game in two days, and Mitty plays a very high energy game. I'd be surprised if her shot wasn't suffering from a bit of tired leg syndrome. Her teammates also missed a lot of open shots. All the o-boards really helped them.

Saturday night's Archbishop Mitty game 11 pm Eastern Time

Very excited for this one. Clackamas features 6’1 Jazzy Davidson, who is #2 in ESPN’s ‘25 rankings and probably my favorite player in the class. It’s not known if she has a UConn offer, but I’d imagine she does.

Every time that post is re-posted in a comment it comes up as Saturday night's game. But the post was made today (Saturday) and the game is tonight. So to be less confusing the original post should have stated Tonight's game...

According to the HUSKY NAN's UCONN recruiting/ POI list, that I have, "Jazzy"
Davidson, Class of 2025, is listed under" UCONN Offer?" as a "?" = a question mark.
This game is going to be VERY interesting. Remember this is a (kind of) home
game for Clackamas H.S... Clackamas is in OREGON!! I see it like UCONN
playing in Hartford.... one has to assume that the PORTLAND, OREGON crowd is
NOT GOING TO BE WITH THE CALIFORNIA MITTY TEAM!! I'm going with the
"TEAM" Mitty over the "Individual" Jazzy... Not that CLackamas is a "bad" team.
Mitty has neutralized the BIGS of Long Island Lutheran (Kate Koval, etc.) and the BIG redhead
who played so well for Camas. May history repeat itself! Go MITTY MONARCHS!!
GO MORGAN AND McKENNA!! Go " M&M"!! (That is a phrase borrowed from
McKenna's Mom).

Watching the game now and Jazzy vs Morgan is an incredible matchup. Jazzy may be a little more skilled as a scorer, but Morgan seems to be stronger and fiercer and may be a better passer. Anytime Morgan is off the floor, Jazzy is virtually unstoppable and vice versa.

If we don’t offer Jazzy, then the universe makes no sense to me. It’s not about glitzy stats, but about an elite athlete. I can’t think of a comparison — maybe Jacy Sheldon if she were a lot taller, or Lexie Hull if she were a better scorer, or a taller more graceful Grace Berger.

The only players I wouldn’t compare her to are Caitlin and Paige because it wouldn’t be fair to her. She hasn’t shown me the passing skills they have, though she has everything else.

Honestly, watching her, it’s so hard for me to find a comparison. Her highlights don’t do her justice. It’s obvious that she’s a gym rat because some of those moves are Pro moves.

Final: Mitty 82, Clackamas 67.

I tuned in late, near the end of Q1. Mitty was down by 8 after trailing by 15. Clackamas must have started the game on fire. But possession by possession, Mitty ground it out to a tie at the half and a 14-point lead after Q3.

Jazzy is a lanky, lean, agile lefty. I thought Cheli dominated the game. As others have noted, she scores, rebounds, defends, and passes. I was very impressed. Morgan has nice moves and deep range. I think she made all her FTs as well.

I thought Cheli dominated the game.
She did. But Jazzy was playing against a better defense than Morgan was. I think Morgan is tremendous and is built for the competition at the next level. Jazzy will be stupendous when she gets to D1, but she’s so slight that she’ll to need teammates who can keep opposing teams from roughing her up.

I don’t know what scholarships look like for ‘25-26, but there are so many good players with so few spots left to fill the roster.

.-.
Here are the scores by the Quarter: Clackamas 22-15, at the Half: 38 -38,
end of three: Mitty 65 - 51, and the FINAL: MITTY 82 - 67.
As noted above, Clackamas was up by 15 points during the first quarter before
Mitty closed it to a 7-point deficit. Mitty then outscored Clackamas 23 to 16 in the
second for the tied. Jazzy and another Clackamas player had
2 fouls before halftime (and they each just missed a third with Jazzy being
called for a walk when it could have easily been a "CHARGE"). Mitty at times
tripled team JAZZY. Like in the other games Mitty Head Coach Sue Philips
worked to limit the opposing best player, i.e. "Jazzy" (not as effectively as in some previous Mitty games),
and then Coach Phillips seems to " flip a switch " in the third and fourth quarters
to seal the deal. Mitty outscored Clackamas by + 14 in the third: twenty-seven
points to thirteen and then closed it out with a + 1 margin of seventeen
to sixteen in the fourth.
THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Jasmine "JAZZY" Davidson # 33, 6'1", class of
2025, Clackamas' Dillon Mogel (sp) # 5, and Mitty's Belle Bramer 6'1" #23, a senior
(Future, Lehigh U.), Mckenna Woliczko # 20 , 6' 2", a sophomore class of 2026, UCONN
POI, no offer yet from UCONN, and MORGAN CHELI # 33, 6'1" UCONN COMMIT.
There was NO tournament MVP as far as I could tell. I'll rewatch the game later as
there were again no box score stats given. Mitty with a 7- 0 Christmas Tournament
run! # 1 in country! (Previous #1 was Long Island Lutheran, a 73 - 72 victim to
Mitty last week in Arizona).

Watched the Desoto game, and looking forward to watching the next two. The announcers were from Desoto, and still had to give Morgan her due as a great prospect. I especially enjoyed Morgan's coaching session on the bench with teammate McKenna, drawing a play on the board. Two talented athletes -- a demonstrative teacher with her willing pupil. The best moment was when McKenna indicated she understood, and Morgan slapped her on the knee. This is a future coach in the making, in the mold of Paige. These are two wonderful young women, already comfortable before a camera and mic. Perfect for UConn. Great teammates. I hope Geno will extend an offer to McKenna.

I think Aubrey has one more year available that’s not shown on this chart

Here are my (probably inaccurate) stats from the Mitty vs Clackamas game.
Morgan Cheli : Q 1 2points, Q 2 12 points, = half : 14 points; Q3 6 points, total 20 then Q 4: a three
pointer = total 23 (could have been 25?) Then McKenna Woliczko: Q 1 six points, Q2 8 points
Half Total: 14 points; Q 3, 7 points (total 21) , then Q 4: four points = TOTAL 25 with at least
8 rebounds and one block. Then: Jasmine "Jazzy" Davidson: Q 1, 9 points, Q 2, 8 points = Half 17
Q 3, 9 points; Q 4, + 4 points = Total 30 points ( my best guess ).
Mitty was scoring on the inside in the first half, Clackamas " hot " from the outside with
steals and good traps and tips. Second half, Mitty with BENCH three pointers, traps,
and containing (?) defense by # 23 Belle Bramer on Jazzy. The refs "swallowed their
whistles" in the second half. Mitty was up by 22 points: 82 to 60 in the fourth quarter before
Clackamas scored the last 7 point for the final score of 82 to 67.

I'm so glad we will have Morgan, but I sure hope we go after Jazzy Davidson the junior guard from Clackamas. Lineup as many NIL deals as possible for her 'cuz she is going to be a star for someone.
