AP Poll - Week 6

Set aside the eye test and the actual wins on our resume. There’s simply no excuse for us to not be ranked #1 and if we aren’t, it’s due to bias that we know exists

The Huskies are No. 1 at KenPom and No. 1 in Sagarin, they are ahead of Purdue and Virginia in ESPN's Basketball Power Index (BPI) and they are the only team ranked in the top 10 in both adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency
Simply not true. As I posted in the prediction thread, the voters go by very simple rules. Win, move up, lose, move down, undefeated teams ahead of teams with one loss, ahead of teams with 2. A monkey could predict how the polls will change. We're not moving up from #3 until Purdue or Virginia lose

I think we would slide into #2. Houston wouldn't get any first place votes since they have a loss. Purdue and UConn likely split UVA's first place votes
Yes but look at all the territory we could get on the "Undefeated Map"!

New Mexico and UConn could be the only 2 in play and UConn fans would argue that West Texas close to CT.

#3 with 15 1st place votes

Ah, highest for Bama since 2006. Wasn't the same season, but that was the same era for Bama basketball as in 2004 when serious Bama vs. Uconn action took place. Bama both rained threes on Syracuse (aw, so sad) and then we rained threes on them on the way to championship#2 and the greatest 2 minutes of UConn basketball of all time:

1-9 Mississippi Valley State received 4 votes.
They're the devils!

Yup, they received the votes. The internet says so.

Not sure why the above disappeared from here but it did bring to mind the following:

Good morning, after a couple of nice wins this week over Florida (their biggest home loss since 1998) and LIU, plus some top 10 losses, we should be moving up

#2 Texas v Chris Beard
#1 Houston v #8 Alabama

Prediction: UConn #2. I think we have an outside shot at being #1
Been telling everyone all week we would fall at #3. The bias to the power football conferences is real.

#2 is more realistic given Virginia has only beaten Baylor, Illinois, and Michigan while squeeking past James Madison. Purdue crushed Gonzaga and Duke and are in the Big Ten so we weren't going to pass them.

If Houston goes on a revenge tour and takes down Virginia and we handle our business, we will be #2 for Christmas. No way Purdue is losing with their cupcake schedule for the rest of 2022.

It's not football school bias. It's chronology bias. Virginia got their big win earlier, so was ahead of us already. Purdue's wins were considered better when they got them (Gonzaga and Duke by double digits) despite happening at the same time, mostly because our Bama win didn't become premium until they just won @Houston this week.

Most voters don't reassess order, they just drop the losers into a spot and move everyone else up that one spot. The only exception is a big win, ala Alabama this week. Then you can move up. @Florida didn't register for most (it did for some) because they're borderline top 50 not top 10.

Butler don’t even know how bad it’s about to be for them sat.
& I’ll be rooting for Houston this wk too

Out of the 3 upper echelon wins between us and Virginia, Virginia has 2 of them. Our Bama win is better than all, but Baylor and Illinois are WAY better than our 2nd place best win.

I don't even get the angst on the board about this. The horror! How will we ever overcome having a great team ranked #3?!

Wins against good teams should be taken into consideration in bumping a team up more than close wins in bumping them down.

If you look at the Top 6 (included Tennessee since they got a first place vote), these are the best wins by Kenpom:

2 @Houston (by Alabama)
7 N-Kansas (by Tennessee)
10 N-Alabama (by UConn)
11 N-Gonzaga (by Purdue)
13 N-Duke (by Purdue)
15 N-Baylor (by Virginia)
17 N-Maryland (by Tennessee)
19 N-Illinois (by Virginia)
21 N-St. Mary's (by Houston)
23 N-West Virginia (by Purdue)
31 H-Marquette (by Purdue)
39 @Oregon (by Houston)
39 N-Oregon (UConn)
44 @Michigan (by Virginia)
46 N-Iowa State (by UConn)

We've demolished teams, but other teams have some better scalps than us. Other than the Alabama win, which I think will be the second best win for a while.
