AP Poll Week #13

At this point I don't really care about our ranking, just keep winning. What I do care about is St John's still having that #22 next to their name for Friday, and hopefully Villanova doing the same in the next 2 weeks to move up a few spots. Ultimately doesn't matter but to some it's the only marker of a good win

UConn: just keeping winning the games in front of you and don’t worry about the outside noise

Illinois: that win is aging like fine wine. Now top 5

MSU and Nebraska: both still top 10 so Michigan is looking REALLY good right now in quality wins

Kansas: up to 11. Also very good for us

BYU and Florida: 16 and 17. Also good for us

St John’s: moving up to 22. They’ll be hungry this weekend

Villanova still getting some votes

Their six game stretch to end the regular season includes Purdue, Duke, Illinois, and MSU. Would be somewhat surprising if they don’t pick up at least one loss in that brutal stretch.
It’s not the end of the world. Had to figure that would happen with two top 10 wins. Still think we have the better loss to Arizona down two starters.

Not sure we should take this one personal. UM went on the road and dominated a top 10 team, then beat another top ten team. They only have one loss and were formerly #1. Not surprising. Good to see voters actually used their brains. Creighton doesn't carry much weight. 2 top 10 wins versus a PC & Creighton when you have the same amount of losses should swing some votes TBH. Did't expect it, but am not holding it against the voters. Maybe if we go out and run over STJ it will swing back.
Come on Ruff, we need to win against X 1st.

You say this then question why I say it’s the BE fault. UConn is in a lose lose situation this year in conference. They have everything to lose and nothing to gain. Even when they blow them out it means nothing

Not disagreeing with you but I think this was a combination of Michigan having a great week and the cumulative effect of us having a mediocre month. If we had handled business and put teams away like we should have, voters might still have kept us at #2. I was a bit surprised we kept staying at #2 given our struggles.

Possibly. But this week was a weird week to do it when we just won by 30. I mean even in our rough month we didn’t lose to a Wisconsin level team. They also should’ve lost to penn State. We’ve both had a shaky month. They just lost. This week was why they jumped us. And if they won those two games no matter how much we won our games this week by, they were jumping us. Because 4/5 of the BE sucks

We definitely have the better loss. That is unarguable.

Shocked they didn’t have Duke hop us too. This is crazy disrespect. After we play our best game. And our non-con wins look better every week. Our only loss is to number 1 and M lost to lowly Wiscy.

Love to watch all the hand-wringing on here over a stupid poll. Cannot believe you all get worked up over something that literally doesn't matter one bit.
I recall the first time UConn reached a #1 ranking in 1995, it was a big deal, especially for a program that had never reached a Final 4. Now after 6 championships and multiple #1 rankings, it has definitely lost most of its shine. But it still interests me. The more we are up there, the more we are talked about and the more our brand is reinforced and recruiting and fundraising bolstered. So I would say it still matters, but not as much. It is nice being the basketball capital of the world.

I feel much the same as many. I have no issue with UConn being moved down a peg after Michigan's 2 victories this week. I think the reason people feel this way is that there are teams, Duke/Kansas/Kentucky, who would never be moved down to say move up UConn in a similar situation. Frankly, I like it, as the voters are rewarding a team for 2 tremendous wins. I hope there is some consistency with this moving forward.

Only 1 poll matters to me. The one that comes out after the first weekend in April. You guys know the poll and so does the rest of the country. The one we of which have finished first 6 times since 1999. And the number I really care about is SEVEN. 7.

The loss is old news at this point. These polls are week to week.

We did just get by PC at home. They have two top ten wins in one week. We have one all year (Illinois). They're also widely recognized as being neck and neck favorite with AZ from a metrics/Vegas perspective. This one really isn't that weird.

But you can say the same about practically every other team.

Michigan barely beat Penn State and should have lost to them, that's a team that lost to Providence. Then Michigan lost to Wisconsin. After that squeaker followed by a loss, they beat the next 4 teams by about 10 points.

I bet voters had already decided to move Michigan up.

I wonder how far we would have fallen had we lost in Omaha. Anyway, we didn't! We stuffed them in a locker!

This is a direct result of us not having many Q1 win opportunities in the Big East. Sucks but unavoidable. Win twice this week.
I still disagree with the drop - someone please find me a team that’s won 17 in a row and gone down in the rankings. Our OOC speaks for itself.

Until the it is big conference vs little conference disrespect - plain/simple.

Well that may be why they didn't previously leapfrog us, but then they beat two top-10 teams.

Michigan beat two top 10 teams this week, it's not at all weird they jumped us today.

Which all circles back to it’s the BE fault. UConn will never have the opportunity that Michigan had this week. They barely beat these teams and it’s “they can’t even blow out bad teams”. They blow them out “ it doesn’t matter because they suck”. You can start to see why a competitor would begin to get disinterested. Which is what I think the majority of out January problems stemmed from.

I’m not saying it’s weird. It’s just the BE’s fault. We’ll never have that opportunity this season in conference. We can win by 50 and it won’t matter so long as teams in better conferences continue to win. If Duke beats NC and Clemson they’ll jump us too.

It's nobodies fault, we just played the toughest teams on our schedule early in the season. St. John's fits into that mix and we haven't played our two regular season games against them yet. Nova may also be ranked when we go down there.

You said this week was a weird one for Michigan to jump UConn.

If we’d beaten Zona no one would be jumping us without an L

“We just played the toughest teams on our schedule early in the season”

You don’t see a problem with this statement? This is exactly why it’s the BE ‘s fault. We won’t have the same amount of opportunities at big wins as teams from the B10, SEC, Big 12 and even the ACC. There are going to be weeks where we play PC and Creighton Duke plays 2 top 25 teams.

Duke is not in the strongest conference. Do they ever move down after not losing a game?
