AP Poll- Week 11

I want to hear from a few here who were crying about our low ranking when we were only in the top 5, how we deserved better and they were insulted that we were only number 2 or 3 and KenPom had us at #1.

We were 11-0 OOC with 10 blowout wins (the one non-blowout was still a double digit win vs. OK State)
Eventually made it to 14-0 with 11 blowout wins and 13 double digit wins

The team ahead of us (Purdue) was struggling with Nebraska and Davidson.

We deserved #1 at the time. We don't deserve #1 anymore. Both are true

I even think 15 today is generous

You’re actually joking right? Please tell me you’re joking.

We were 14-0. We looked like the best team in the country, we were blowing every team out while the other top 5 teams had some closer games to lesser competition. Most metrics had us #1. There was 100% an argument for us as the #1 team in the country at one point.

Then… things changed!! Believe it or not there is a chance that a basketball team full of 18-22 year olds can struggle. And we’ve lost a few, so now we no longer are remotely close to where we were when we were 14-0.

I’m so tired of these 4 brain celled comments on this site “guhhh where are those people now who thought we were the best team in the country when we were 14-0” and then sitting on your high horse as if you saw this coming and didn’t believe we could’ve been the #1 team a few weeks ago.

Guess 15 is kinda generous considering how abysmal we looked yesterday. Maybe they're taking into account our 3 other losses were on the road to ranked BE teams.
We are the highest ranked 4+ loss team so there's that.

Votes are all over the place again

Steve Pikiell gets his second career technical foul and boom Rutgers is #23. That's how it's done. Well played Coach.

Pretty cool to see Jalen Gaffney and FAU make the AP Poll for the first time in their program's history.

Winning fifteen straight, the Owls possess the second longest winning streak in the nation and will look to continue their streak 7 PM tonight on ESPNU against a talented WKU team.

Maybe we actually do miss his PG skills after all? He didn't score a lot, but he did when we needed a bucket.. He got to the cup.... we didn't need him to do too much offensively... just sayin...

"Jalen Gaffney and FAU" is like saying "Stu Sutcliffe and The Beatles".
not sure what that means.. not a big Beatles guy... but, nevertheless, happy for Gaffney... Hope he continues to excel

15 is an overreaction by the voters. Here’s our ranking in a few of the power ratings, which actually do some statistical analysis based on performance and strength of opponents:

Sagarin - 5
Ken Pom - 6
Team Rankings - 5

For rankings purposes, the St. John’s game is not the terrible loss some panicked fans are making out to be, not when they are a team ranked between 59-66 in the power ratings.

He's playing half their minutes, but he has a 12.5% usage rate (role players are 16-20%, stars 20%-30%, 12.5% is Akok range) with 80 offensive rating (100 is about average, Diarra at 86 for us in conference this year).

So he's there, but he doesn't do anything, and what he does do isn't as good as the guys around him. Take that to the Beatles analogy.

This is a fair ranking for us; we are just on a bit of a slide. Hopefully the St. John's game was our bottom and we pick things up from here, get ourselves back in the top ten.
Losing 4 out of 5 in conference by a combined 39 points is just a bit of a slide?

Certainly one way to look at things. But the trend line is bad, especially on defense.

Think of the 1st half of January as a quarter of the season played to date. If you were an economist and related that to fiscal quarters, you'd be on CNBC screaming about how the recession is already here and a depression is inevitable.
