Considering that the UCONN loss is their only loss, and that UNC is currently wiping up the floor with a decent Indiana squad, that's a good win for the Huskies.

I just don't understand why Michigan and Vanderbilt aren't ranked with who is in the 20-25 group.

I watched ND beat USC on Saturday, and UCLA's big win on Sunday. I guarantee you that Geno and CD are thinking about other things than the rankings right now.

As a UConn fan I am not upset with the fact that UCLA has jumped to the #1 spot in the rankings at this point in the season. Nor would I be too upset, if I were a Longhorn fan. They actually dropped a spot for doing nothing but posting a 42-point margin of victory in their game. Now mind you, if they had won by 50, that truly would have been reason to be upset with a drop! ;)

I don't believe UCLA deserves to be #1, but whatever. It's early.

North Carolina will be ranked at the end of the season! They have talent and a good coach. I’ll be shocked if they are not ranked!
I agree. Toomey and Thomas will round into form by then to make an impressive front court next to Utsby, and Gakdeng may end up as a backup. Also, Nivar showed herself to be an impressive player.

A main rotation of Kelly Donarski Nivar Utsby Gakdeng Toomey and Thomas sounds like a ranked team to me.

That has nothing to do with the comment I was responding to
Had everything to do with what appeared to be a needlessly snarky response to an accurate comment. If you left off the “huh” at the end, which came across as dismissive at best, your reply would have just fine.

I find it interesting that the nobody UNC team that UConn played just beat Indiana by 30 69-39. Maybe they are a bit tougher team than some seem to think.
I was not impressed with UNC at the time. But yes this result does alter my view of them.

That's the thing about rankings -- is that they are voters impression of teams at the time. I thought UNC was barely a top 20 team when UConn faced them so the win wasn't super impressive, esp since they outplayed UConn for parts of the game. BUT, now if it turns out they're better than i thought, then I upgrade the win.
The value of the win changes over time based on how good they turn out to be.

Indiana has wins over Stanford and Baylor but also lost to Butler and Harvard. The jury is still out on what their true level is.

Sydney Parrish left the Baylor game with an apparent knee injury and it didn't look particularly good.

The thing is, UCLA beat the pre-season #1 and became the the new #1. This isn't surprising.

The rest of the schedule for them looks pretty mild so they may not be dethroned until they meet USC (twice) in Feb and March. Can Indiana or tOSU or Illinois or MD going to topple them? Minnesota? None of these would be impossible, but they'd be serious upsets.
I doubt they’ll make it that long to be honest. Playing a decent team on the road in a Big Ten environment is a different animal and I don’t see Londyn Jones going 5-5 from deep most nights. We’ll see though. With South Carolina getting blown out in dramatic fashion, this year has more of a wide open feel to it than we’ve had the past 3 seasons.

The question will be - can UCLA maintain the level of play they showed yesterday?

I'm not sure they can.
Let me see if I understand this - On one hand, it's early and UConn will continue to get better, yet on the other hand UCLA will get worse?

Hey guys. We have 3 stars who can create, can play both sides of the ball and can score from anywhere. I dont like it either but we have a very talented roster. The future is bright. I hope we're up to speed by the ND game. We beat ND @ ND that sends a message to WCBB that UConn is back.

ND to me had a much more impressive win against a top 3 team. South Carolina was over rated based on their last two seasons instead of what they were bringing back this year. UConn had a good win against NC but the play wasn't impressive on the offensive side of the ball so I could see them at 2 or 3 this week based on current events.

The good news for UConn is they play a lot of the top contenders so they will have every chance to move up. To me though if you are 1,2,3 in the final rankings you are good since you won't play the top team until the final.

First, how is it accurate to say UConn hasn’t played anyone when they just dismantled the #14 team in the country on the road? Second, how is merely putting “huh” at the end of a question, snarky or dismissive? Genuinely puzzled!

Not certain. And not certain that the level of dominant play that they showed yesterday will necessary be required for them to continue to put wins on the board up through the tournament. I don't feel one bit sorry for them in having to travel coast to coast to play conference games. Big long flights and hotel stays, particularly losing hours in time zone changes, can be difficult on an athlete, but UCLA brought that upon themselves!

They eventually have a game against a #18 Baylor on January 20th but nothing really between now and that Baylor game for them to worry about. Eventually they play Maryland and have a coast to coast travel to get to D.C. And they play Ohio State, but have them at home. #21 Oregon Ducks in Eugene, and #22 Iowa on the road as well. #19 Illinois at home ... frankly, looks like their biggest test is going to be the Trojans, twice.

I wouldn't say they dismantled UNC as UConn had just a single digit lead with about 6-7 minutes left and the final MOV was 11.

I just checked out the Massey Ratings, and for a second I thought they had posted last year's rankings by mistake: this morning South Carolina is still #1 at 5-1, and 6-0 Iowa (despite no ranked wins) jumped to #2, with Connecticut sliding to #3 and UCLA jumping up to #4. Indiana (which must be the most unpredictable team in D1) jumped 33 spots to #17.
