Any word on a new HC @ UConn yet?

Good, possibly great hire. He's a strong recruiter and consistent winner. He will have one or two bizarre losses a year (hey, just like we had vs Rice and Delaware this year!) but should keep the program afloat. Hopefully we are willing to invest in a strong NIL and assistant coach pool.

He's also 46, for those worried about age.

81-44 Toledo record, 9 consecutive bowl seasons (ex-covid season)?
Insanely competent coach. If he’s the guy, I like it. I was thinking NFL guy, but didn’t think they could poach a guy who is probably one good season away from a P4 job. 81-44 in the MAC is a decent record.

Worth a read…

-> Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Candle is the focus of UConn's search to replace the departed Jim Mora Jr., who left days ago to accept the head coaching position at Colorado State after Mora nearly landed the Stanford job, per several sources.

But Candle, whom sources told FootballScoop has interviewed in person this week with UConn officials, isn't just the Huskies' top target.

Where else?

Well, Candle interviewed Thursday with Tulane for its head coaching vacancy, several sources told FootballScoop.

Additionally, while LSU defensive coordinator and former Tulane standout linebacker Blake Baker is the Green Wave's top choice, sources tell FootballScoop that there is not a ton of separation between Candle and Baker, should Baker elect to remain at LSU as Lane Kiffin's defensive coordinator. <-

I don’t like this part of the article.

While Baker looms large in the Tulane search, and that job is considered a more premium position within the industry per coaches than the head job at UConn, Candle is right there as well as current Green Wave offensive coordinator Will Hall, the former Southern Miss head coach, and current Southern Miss head coach Charles Huff, who's also a top candidate at Memphis.

We all know the kick to the nuts is coming when he takes the Tulane job.

Then there’s this:

At UConn, if the Huskies cannot close the deal with Candle, sources tell FootballScoop that Andy Kotelnicki, most recently Penn State's offensive coordinator who rose to acclaim at Kansas, Lehigh head coach Kevin Cahill, who's won 21 games the past two years at the school, and UConn offensive coordinator Gordie Sammis have been involved in UConn's search.

These are extremely uninspiring and I know a lot of you are obsessed with Cahill. If Sammis is our next HC, this will a major failure and a bad sign for this program because I feel like he’s our last resort choice….

Sources indicated that both Tulane and UConn sought to wrap up their searches by the end of this weekend, if possible.

At least we’ll know this weekend.

Jason Candle is the UConn coach.

UConn lost in the Fiestable bowl and went down hill from there, what is the point of Mr. Powers X post. Does he think that a coach should win every game they coach in?

I dont know. Dude is 81-44 in the MAC, a school where you go from 9-3 to 3-9 year over year. Consistently Good at Toledo….Toledo.

UConn lost to Holy Cross, was that the end of the world! As some people say "Stuff Happens"

Candle kinda sucks despite having the most talented roster in the MAC for a decade. Also check that bowl record and the name of the teams his teams played in those games.
You judge a college coach by their record because he owns the whole thing - the quality of the roster and the coaching Xs and Os. If he assembled the most talented roster in the MAC roster for a decade, that’s a great credit to him.

Hope he can assemble a great roster and win here too.

He's also lost to Appalachian State, FIU and Middle Tennessee State, inferior teams. Or are we ok with losing to the likes of Rice now?
App State is arguably better, but that’s beside the point. He will have far more resources here, better rosters, more money to hire staff. I really think he can keep us at the 8 or 9 win level year in and year out

He’s in the MAC - he’s in a league that is absolutely inferior to those schools. He’s playing on Tuesdays for a quarter mil in rights fees per year…it’s a low-major league.

It would help the thread if the people who do not watch football take to the sidelines for a while.

I mean it doesnt matter if they assemble a good roster if they cant beat teams worse than their own roster on paper. Especially when it matters. I know he is a basketball coach but that is the same sort of criticism Calipari rightfully gets.
