Can she play on Friday night?:)
Well, this raises an interesting question, once the portal is open can a player immediately join a team? Sort of like a baseball player changing uniforms in the middle of a double header? My initial reaction, of course is no, but if eligibility has already been burned, I'm sure a top player in the portal would love to play for a top contender, right here and now. Probably not good for team chemistry. There's got to be a rule against this. Anyone know?

Well, there's the whole academic requirements thing, along with the fact that the second semester is almost over, so I would say no, from a university policy standpoint

Off the top of my head I think that the player transferring in would have to officially enrolled into their new school. Of course players transferring into ND are allowed to submit a waiver to play immediately.

Let's not give the NCAA any more ideas!;)

Wait, you mean these kids have to be students enrolled in classes at these places? C'mon, that's just not right! :p:p

So, if my math is correct, we have 11 players returning for next year, we have 3 incoming freshmen, leaving only 1 open spot for a Transfer. I my humble opinion, that spot needs to be filled by Ms. Serah Williams. I hereby decree it, so let it be so...If Serah elects another school, then and only then, would I entertain other options....

You're right, I'm sure there's a lawsuit percolating somewhere. It's the American way...

Agree this should be the priority of things. I would still be exploring other options and doing the homework so to speak, but make it clear we need to hear from Serah first. If a second opening occurs after the season ends, you could go after a guard right away if it is a clear upgrade, but be waiting on Serah before offering any other big. IMO only if a clear upgrade.

Sometimes the value of having a deep bench from a practice point of view is undervalued. Whether Williams or someone else, having a big with strong under the basket offensive skills to school others at practice would be beneficial.

Does anyone else think that it is a bit strange that there hasn’t been any chatter about other teams in the hunt for Serah? Could this mean she has the do not contact block checked and that UConn is the only school in the running? Or are the usual suspect coaches lurking in the shadows?

I think this is particularly true for 5's. A WNBA level 5 faces few opponents that can really test them during the normal season. There have been several superstar 5 combos over the last few years. At first glance it appears strange because the bench player could start at all but a hand-full of schools, and yet goes where they know they may come off the bench, at least for a year.

I think your point is the reason. How much better could both players be going against each other in practice every day when you have Boston against Cardosa, Brink against Betts, Jones against Oldacre at Texas this year, and Liv against Dorka a few years ago.

Jana did not really have a counterpoint this year. Next year there are potentially two players that might help in that regard. One is on her way, and that is Gandy. While she is likely to be a project, as a big body defender and shot blocker she could help develop Jana's offense right away. If we get Williams, her polished offensive game could help with Jana's defense in the same way.

I have not heard of any new news related to Williams, no good news or bad news, just no news.

How many spots does UConn have for transfers next season?........I see UConn has interest in a second player in the transfer portal.....is there room for two?

As of now there is one spot..

UConn has generally not advertised anything with transfers before the commitment goes live. There was a bit of chatter regarding Evina Westbrook, however nothing serious until she went public with her decision. IMHO, the same with Dorka. No pictures of visits with uniforms on. Lou and Kaitlyn were assumed but nothing until the official announcement. Don't forget that recruits visits' pictures sometimes don't make it online until a while later.

Has there ben any news on Serah? I know this is still early, but I wanted to get this question out there again.

Also, I suspect all of us have now seen that we don't really have an urgent need for a big. She would surely be a nice addition, but it wouldn't be a catastrophe if we didn't add anyone. I hope she comes, but I won't cry if she doesn't.

I'd like to have her as a proven two way big but another veteran shooting guard as Azzi insurance would be nice too......

Not all of us. I definitely see a need and Auriemma most likely sees one as well. That's why there's interest in Williams. You never have too many impact bigs because you never know when you're going to lose one.

I said "urgent need." Of course there's interest in Serah. I think she'd be a nice addition, too. But the simple fact staring us in the face is that Geno just won an NC in truly dominating fashion with bigs that most of the BY had long since discounted.

A need for the coming season is urgent enough for me. Ability to provide consistent production and avoid foul problems doesn't happen between now and November in shootarounds and informal scrimmages. I wouldn't leave that to hope and chance, I'd bring in a Williams to push that development this fall since it hasn't been shown yet.

To be realistic, Jana not atypically made two dumb fouls in one 3Q minute and was limited to 12 minutes of playing time.
Ice in two Final Four appearances came up with a total of zero rebounds. Averaged one all tournament.
And we don't need a 5?
