Another J Ross thread?...Yep

Hurley needs to find guys that can create their own shot. Landrew has those skills but he’ll be a freshman, so TBD how it translates next year. If Ross starts, unless he develops that skillset, it just puts more pressure on finding enough of that creation from the 2 and 4. Will be very interesting to see where Hurley goes in the portal and who returns.

So if Ross makes another progression his Senior year, it will be in shot creation.

He’s shown plenty of ability this year to get by his man, get to the paint, and he’s shown flashes of shot creation and finishing when in the paint.

He’s got the ability & potential. I’m betting on him!
 
Glad this didn’t turn in to another “we need to start Ross” thread. He has found a comfortable role for himself which happens to be a huge spark and I am happy for him and for us because he will be the difference maker off the bench that can take us far.

Literally 99% of my arguments on this board about a player comes down to if they can develop or not.

The same old people are still talking about wanting to bring in ready made transfers for different positions because they don’t believe our guys can develop to be good enough or our top 50 freshman can’t be good enough to even be a backup lol

Just pointing out that this is an absolutely crazy thing for you of all people to say given that your position has consistently been that if a guy does something for the first time as a junior it's because he wasn't given the opportunity to do it previously.

I challenge you to find one post where someone has said that a player cannot develop at all.

You’ve been on the record saying Stewart is a role player so I know that you understand that development is not a binary outcome.
 
He could be an X factor here in the BET and NCAA. Especially if what we are seeing can be consistent for say....eight more games or so.

Ive said the literal opposite. This stuff is why I don’t even bother to respond to most of yours or any of your cliques post anymore because it’s just stupid at this point. You literally make anything up instead of just eating crow like someone respectable.

For the record, I’ve consistently said Stew is not a good role player because he’s wired to be a primary option… but I don’t know if you’re doing this on purpose or you’re just stupid at this point.

Apologies if I misremembered. I don’t catalog your posts. Point remains. Development is not binary and suggesting that anyone thinks development is not possible at all because they disagree with you about the likelihood of certain outcomes of their development is incredibly disingenuous and I think you know that.

Okay so should we get someone out the transfer portal at the 4 next year or should we believe Stewart can develop into a primary option next year?

You’re proving my point here. If I say we should grab a starter in the portal, that’s doesn’t mean I don’t think Stew can’t develop or his ceiling isn’t high. It means I think there’s a lot of risk to betting the season on Stew developing into a starting-caliber 4 on a national championship team. Development outcomes aren’t binary. Ross is literally a perfect example of that.

I find myself thinking about how hard that is gonna be

For everyone who questioned AK this year (even up to a week ago) they should consider what you're asking and how his replacement is so difficult to find, not only next year but in 5 years-10 years...

we'd need a guy who can understand the offense, hit a 3 point shot, defend multiple positions (including the 5), rebound, understand spacing, have a soft enough touch within 10 feet, top 95th percentile Bball IQ,....

I'm gonna miss that dude.

It will be interesting to see how much the offense changes without him. The reality is we’re not going to replace all the off-ball stuff he does. I think that means the offense evolves vs. us trying to pigeon hole someone else into that role.

It's gonna be hard but also not that hard if that makes sense. If we needed to replicate Alex Karaban that would be hard, and maybe borderline impossible.

But we just need to bring in a super talented transfer and adjust the system to fit the guys we have, which is something I have full confidence in this staff doing

We had to replace better players than AK in recent years and we're right in the mix again.

We don't need an AK clone and I hope the staff isn't trying to find one. We'll miss his intangibles and basketball IQ but his scoring and rebounding shouldn't be difficult to replace. I'm okay sacrificing a little of what be brings us and getting more athletic.

100% the polar opposite of what I just said. Let me try a really basic hypothetical question. Do you think A) Furphy should be guaranteed a starting spot next year, or B) do you not think he is able to develop at all?
