Amida gets Portsmouth invite

I don't want to seem like I am whitewashing his flaws as I don't see any real path towards the NBA. His biggest issue in being a legit prospect IMO is his poor rebounding. But there are guys in the NBA who do nothing besides catch lob dunks, protect the rim and rebound who are making max money. Scoring and passing are nice traits to have but are not a necessity nowadays.

Edit: And even his lob dunks likely would not translate to the NBA where guys are rolling down the lane, catching the ball in traffic and throwing down in one motion. Some guys would make this look easy, not Amidah, at least against stiff competition.
Can you guys at least spell his name right? This is almost worse than the Ryan Boatwright crowd

Amidah is non-existent as an offensive threat in scoring, passing, or rebounding. He needs to do more than make back-door lob dunks if he wants to get any minutes in the NBA. He'll also have to adjust to the 3-second rule.
I'm with you that Amida is not an NBA player, but this analysis is really, really wrong and bad. Amida is a vertical threat that teams have to defend against, which means they have to scrunch in a little bit tighter and be ready to compete at – and above – the rim. Just the presence of a guy like that opens up more space for the wings and guards, and changes the geometry of the game to the better for any offense.

If all you can do is 1) catch lobs, 2) protect the rim, 3) guard the pick-and-roll, and 4) rebound, you can be a borderline all-star in the league, like Andre.

Timofey Mizgov is an Nba center. About all he cab do is catch lobs for dunks. Amida van do that and block shots. I don't see why he won't be at least a serviceable back up. Can't rebound? Put him with a 4 that can. Hell put him on okc, Russell will take his boards. He is a better version of bismack biyombo imo. I wish the kid well either way.

I can't believe NOW you people come out the woodwork and suddenly Amida Brimah can be a NBA backup.

Biyombo and Mozgov are scrubs. Biyombo and Mozgov would crush and eat Amida alive. Somehow I find myself arguing both sides of the coin on this issue. Guys who can make a living on lobs are freakish athletes who make the very difficult seem very easy. Amida is of the right style but he is not at that level.

He can't rebound. If Thabeet, who was a significantly better rebounder, couldn't stick, Brimah doesn't have a prayer. He can make some nice money abroad but unless he learns to do something he couldn't learn to do in the last 4 years, he'll never make an NBA roster.

This pretty much sums it up, which is why I've always believed two things to be true:

1. He's not good enough to play in the NBA

2. He was good enough to play at the college level, and his value in doing so has been woefully misrepresented due to the fact that his strengths - rim runs, protecting the rim...I thought he was serviceable as a pick-and-roll defender and rebounder by his senior year - illude the eyes of the casual fan™.

Lol. This is extremely funny that people are attempting to say Brimah is Mozgov or Biambo. LOL. There couldn't be more false of a statement. They would take Brimah to school.

Seriously imagine Mosgov posting Brimah up with the ease that he would

First, go Amida!

That's making the most of an opportunity.

Second, if Amida somehow makes it onto an NBA roster, nothing short of a firing squad will make me forgive the staff here.

On the one hand it would be evidence of his development. On the other an indictment of his usage here if he's NBA caliber.

But he didn't have a good strength and conditioning coach. Plus he spent to much time walking our facilities and analyzing his schedule. Thise times are over. Wow Nomar i thought you were better than this.

Brimah is playing better in this thing then he did during his four years in Storrs... Oh Well Good Luck Big Fella!

He should try and get into the combine and see how he does there

Brilliant strategy! Now, how should he try and get into the combine?

Hmm, let's see...I've got it! He should probably find some long-standing pre-draft tournament where NBA GMs and scouts gather to watch and evaluate seniors who were generally pretty good college players but are fringe NBA prospects.

Now where could he find something like that?

Brimah At Portsmouth

Amida Brimah, who will graduate from UConn next month, is participating in the Portsmouth Invitational this week. The four-day, 12-game tournament brings scouts from the NBA and overseas to watch college seniors, 64 this season.

Brimah had 17 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 21 minutes on Thursday night, and followed with 16 points, two rebounds and three blocks on Friday afternoon in 22 minutes.

Look at the players at this, I don't know if there is a single guy projected to get drafted

He should try and get into the combine and see how he does there

None of them are high level prospects but all of them were good college players, which is weird because we've been told Brimah wasn't one of those.

Guys who play that well @ PIT usually end up on contracts for high end European teams and defintely a summer league invite. He's a flawed rebounder but he can block shots at pretty much any level imo. Plus finishes lobs , pro teams love that "vertical spacing"

I'm pretty sure you can find at least 2 games where Brimah put up similar stat lines as he did in 2 outings at Portsmouth. I know folks like to think Brimah put up 0s across the board game in, game out and was one of the worst bigs in all of college ball, but in reality that wasn't the case.

You know I agree.

WOW
They don't need your forgiveness - the guy played all available minutes and did what he did - based on his efforts at UConn, he was not draft able (except for his height)
Of course I would love to see him succeed - it will do UConn well

Only 4 pts for Amida today, on 2-5 shooting, but with 8 rebounds & 1 block in 24 mins. I only caught the 2nd half of the game today (it was online). He had a nice dunk in the 2nd half, but Amida looked pretty good defensively in the 2nd half when he was in. He really didn’t block any shots but grabbed a couple loose balls & rebounds. I don’t think the player he was guarding scored at all when I was watching. He definitely made it difficult to score in the paint when he was in (no surprise). He didn’t get many offensive touches other than a dunk. I think two other times they tried to get the ball to him…. One was a low pass below his knees, which he couldn’t catch & another attempt was a really bad pass by a guard that was not even close enough for Amida to catch (most likely because of being unfamiliar with each other). I think Amida was 17-24 from the field over 3 games, which is pretty impressive. Overall, I think he intrigued some teams over the 3 games. Not saying he’ll be drafted, but hopefully he gets an NBA Combine invite next month or even Summer League offers for July. I don’t think he hurt himself at Portsmouth at all. Wishing him the best of luck. He’s one of our own, so I’ll always wish the best for him. :)

Yeah, awesome. Why didn't you point out this is a total joke? I was trying to find some positives.
