Geno's comments...........She needs to be tougher and more aggressive. If she did that, along with more of the good stuff and less of the bad stuff, she’d play more minutes.
Her pass from the floor was a great example of “just playing”; a much better sign for her IMO than just providing an interesting highlight. On certain plays last night, when Amari didn't hesitate, and just "played", she made some good decisions. IMHO, it looks like when she has too much time and too many options (same with Aubrey's 3 pt shooting), she freezes and can't decide what to do. I'm ok with some of her "mistakes" as her growth will come in real PT in games.
She doesn't seem to have that "I want to be great" drive yet or rather "I'll do what it takes to be great" drive. Hopefully it comes. She's got a lot of potential there.Geno’s comments in the presser about Amari were really interesting. When asked how he felt about her game tonight, he had a long hesitation. Then said something like - we got to see what she can do and what she doesn’t do well. She needs to be tougher and more aggressive. If she did that, along with more of the good stuff and less of the bad stuff, she’d play more minutes.

"say the magic word and win 50 dollars"! Groucho in the Afternoon with George F.They need to find a duck to drop down from the ceiling the next time they play this game.
I don’t think she’s weak, I think she’s tentative. Dorka isn’t exactly bulging with muscles and neither is Amari because that’s their body type. They are ectomorphs.I think it was Kara W in the post game comments who talked about how big, not just tall but big in the shoulders and strong, Dorka is. Compare that to Amari when they were both sitting up straight in the post game presser when Geno was talking. No comparison on strength between the two and I know about the age difference, but after two preseasons and a full summer, Amari is still too weak to function in the post. Despite all the "holy cow" comments about her highlight pass, no one has commented on how a minor arm movement from the SH player put Amari on the floor to begin with. Add in her weak hands and she has a long way to go to get minutes in close games against good teams.
Geno's comments are in line with my post a few months ago about not being able to teach aggression and desire. Unlike skills, you either have them or you don't. Seriously, do any of you see Amari running down the court fast enough like Liya or Dorka to get a breakaway pass from Nika?
I love her attitude and appreciate that she adds that to the team chemistry. which is important, but I think many BYer's are blinded by a desire for her to play based on her initial recruiting reputation. or ranking and are not seeing what Geno and his staff are.
Amari was moving backward toward the basket when she tripped over the foot of the SH player and fell backwards. There was no "minor arm movement from the SH player" that put her to the floor. She was tripped... probably accidentally.I think it was Kara W in the post game comments who talked about how big, not just tall but big in the shoulders and strong, Dorka is. Kevin Durant is another example of an ectomorph. No bulging muscles anywhere.I don’t think she’s weak, I think she’s tentative. Dorka isn’t exactly bulging with muscles and neither is Amari because that’s their body type. They are ectomorphs.
.....or everyone wear them when they come out onto the floor the first time for pregame warmups. THAT would also make the SportsCenter highlights for the day.I think everyone on the bench should wear goggles to freak out the opposition. It would freak me out.
A goggle maker should take advantage of this and strike while the iron is hot. An excellent "NIL' opportunity for Amari.
I didn't think there was an arm involved, but I heard this so I rewatched the play and I saw it. Subtle perhaps, maybe not enough for a foul (thankfully) but I saw it.Amari was moving backward toward the basket when she tripped over the foot of the SH player and fell backwards.
