Complete list of McDonald's All-Americans who've played at/signed w/ UConn:

1978: Corny Thompson (PF - Middletown, CT)
1991: Donyell Marshall (PF - Reading, PA)
1996: Richard Hamilton (SG - Coatesville, PA)
1997: Khalid El-Amin (PG - Minneapolis, MN)
2000: Taliek Brown (PG - Queens, NY)
2000: Scott Hazelton (Somerville, MA)
2003: Charlie Villanueva (Queens, NY)
2004: Rudy Gay (Baltimore, MD)
2008: Kemba Walker (The Bronx, NY)
2009: Alex Oriakhi (Lowell, MA)
2012: Rodney Purvis (Raleigh, NC)
2016: Alterique Gilbert (Lithonia, GA)

Obviously it's been a tougher season than we've wanted, and Ollie's had a steep learning curve in terms of recruiting. But in his first real, sanction-free class he was able to get a McD's AA point guard from a part of the country where we've never been a major player for major recruits. This was a huge get and a feather in the cap, and it's worth remembering that good recruiting begets more good recruiting.

Hopefully next year's class includes Diallo, Brown and MAL.

That's a really, really short list, given our history. Amazing.

Wouldn't Durham have been an AA sans knee injuries? I heard something along those lines, but I'm no expert.

On paper our best recruiting class. However, in reality not even a top 3.
Best 3 Recruiting Classes On Paper
3. 2011: our highest-ever recruit (Andre, No. 2 overall), another 5-star (DeAndre) and a high 4-star (Boat)
2. 1991: First McD's AA of the Calhoun era (Donyell), another top 20 (Rudy) and a top 50 (Fair), 2 more top-100s (KO & Ashmeade), and a 3-star big (Bu)
1. 2000: 2 McD's AA, an even bluer blue-chipper in Caron, the JuCo player of the year, and 3-star depth player (Tooles)

Best 3 Recruiting Classes For Real
3. 2001: Produced the No. 2 & 3 overall draft picks, and a dominant, title-winning team
2. 2010: Only class in NCAA history to win titles as freshmen & seniors, produced multiple pros
1. 1996: Produced 3 starters on what's still our best-ever team, one of whom is probably a future NBA hall of famer

Our 2016 class is possibly No. 5 for the "on paper" Olympics, trailing the four above and the 2006 group. Our 2017 class - if we land Diallo, Brown, MAL, Samuels and William - probably moves up to No. 1 all-time.

He'd probably be a top-20, no-doubt-about-it 5-star without the injuries. Not quite a one-and-done type, because he's raw (like a bigger Stanley or DeAndre).

Let's not get ahead of ourselves with 17, have we signed any of them yet?

Congrats Alterique one of the next great Husky guards. As Fishy said many of the kids in that area of the rankings never get a look especially if not going to UNC, Duke or Kentucky. He must have really been impressing.

Yeah recruiting rankings are all paper, including McDonalds. Results make the true class rankings.

These kids did more without the burgers, including 2 rings (all with one), and one became an 1st team AA! So lets not overlook what is arguably the most successful recruiting class in UConn history. I feel dutied to forever remind Yarders' that 'no Burgers make Hungry Huskies':

  • C Michael Bradley 6 ft 10 in (2.08 m)235 lb (107 kg)Fr Chattanooga, TN
  • F Niels Giffey 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m)210 lb (95 kg)Fr Berlin, Germany
  • G/F3 Jeremy Lamb 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m)185 lb (84 kg)Fr Norcross, GA
  • G13 Shabazz Napier6 ft 0 in (1.83 m)170 lb (77 kg)Fr Roxbury, MA
  • F10 Tyler Olander6 ft 9 in (2.06 m)225 lb (102 kg)Fr Mansfield, CTC35
  • Roscoe Smith 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m)205 lb (93 kg)Fr Baltimore, MDF23
  • Enosch Wolf 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m)260 lb (118 kg) Fr Göttingen, Germany
Just saying lets not get all twisted and excited on 'preseason' recruiting rankings. Its the post season that counts.

Donny Marshall was also in that 1991 class. Also Calhoun's son Jeff

This would have been so confusing without the metric equivalents ;)

I don't know what those measurements mean...what are they in Hilton and Lubin units?

Amazing looking back on that spring and how upset everyone on here was that we settled for those guys instead of getting Doron Lamb, Josh Selby, CJ Leslie, Brandon Knight, or Cory Joseph. I think our guys did just fine.

Congratulations, Alterique.

The next best recruiting class begins with you.
