Caron had some rough patches. We were an NIT team that year and he had moments of immaturity. "We're winners, not chicken dinners" was a quote that we held over his head when we slumped.

Okafor did it exactly right - come in with low expectations as a lightly regarded recruit and far exceed them as a freshman. Then get much better (adding offensive game) as a sophomore to exceed expectations again. Then develop an injury as a junior which could give you a pass for a bad day when expectations are through the roof (and win a title). And be a public relations gold mine with his academic proficiency off the court.

Ray was close to the same path (wasn't as lightly regarded, but still exceeded expectations as a frosh and soph). He just didn't get the ending right.
 
Not to the same degree as others, but I remember Kemba catching a ton of flak when he went through that rough patch his sophomore year.

Uncle Hiltie had a good path as well. Come in lightly regarded, have a ton of other big guys next to you, get a lot better, turn into a first round draft pick. He was so beloved around here that he became a unit of measurement.
 
Marcus White was one of my least favorite players, the 2003 Texas NCAAT game really did it for me.

Yeah, that shot was just dumb luck. From a guy that wasn't much of a shooter anyway.

Granted I was in high school for Taliek's career and had no idea of "The Boneyard".

Taliek heat was so bad that JC had to say things in the media multiple times to try to stem the onslaught. There's been nothing like TB hate imo.

I'll take your word for it. Back in the before I was really on the internet I used to just watch the games and living in NJ kept me insulated from the CT media.

Let's just say that if you were new to English and were trying to understand sports terminology in April of 2004 you would think much-maligned was a position. UConn starts power forward Josh Boone, shooting guard Ben Gordon and much-maligned Taliek Brown.

Just was tough to figure out who was playing much-maligned for Georgia Tech.

Not even close………..sorry but that's crazy to even come up with that statement. Not even Top 50 but a decent JC player for the Huskies. But if he didn't drive you crazy once in a while you weren't watching.

Do transfers count?

I'd say Oriakhi would easily slide into the top 5 if we included his less than pardonable exit (speaking not for myself but on behalf of the Boneyard).

That definitely is part of the Dove myth, at least. I think it was only four. I don't remember seeing him following girls around North after 09-10

Hilton Armstrong gets a tremendous amount of hate from non-UConn people. Nearly every article that mentions him does so disparagingly and even when he does something positive, they try to trivialize it. The guys on the GS message boards seem to like him enough, but he's put up with more BS from the media than most any other UConn player I can think of. Granted he didn't live up to what one would expect from a #12 pick, but I still think the negativity toward Hilton has been beyond excessive.
