I still think he will get spot minutes when the situation calls for it and he's feeling up to it. He brings us so much energy on both ends when he's in. But it's clear he isn't going to get extended minutes.

He sure looked fairly healthy. It may be more concern with messing up chemistry than Akok’s actual health. We are playing well and introducing a new body at this point might not help.

His smile will ignite the energy on the bench. The energy on the bench will fuel the effort on the court. The effort on the court will win National Title #5.

Thank you Akok!!!

The recipe for success starts with Akok.

Xavier game he looked somewhat healthy, but in limited minutes the last 3 games, he has not looked that mobile.

"Achilles tendon rupture can be a career-ending injury for professional basketball players. They are expected to miss 10 months for rehabilitation and reach their post-injury peak performance level at the 2nd season back." From Asia-Pacific Journal of Sports Medicine.

It's great that Akok was able to get back to practicing this year, but realistically, we should think about him getting back to full strength in 2021/2022.

Are the words in bold from the article, or did you add them? Because they are pretty sporadic...

Bummer. That swoop to the hoop he made got me excited but if he's not 100%, I'd rather save him esp since we're playing well without him. He has a big future here.
That swoop to the hoop got Akok excited too!! But I wonder if the next day he didn't feel so good? I will look forward to seeing him play next year. Maybe he will be next years 6th man trey specialist!

How is this a real thread.
At some point jibsey felt compelled to start a thread with a question about Akok Akok. Then these replies started happening. Here we are.

This reminds me of when quotation marks are used in strange "places."
My guess is it's copied from Wikipedia and those emboldened words and phrases were at one time internal hyperlinks to other Wikipedia pages.

This has been an odd injury. It's unusual to see someone come back and even play well in one game. Then almost completely shut it down again. Whatever is going on Akok seems to be on board. If he was healthy enough I suspect we'd hear some rumbling about Akok wanting more pt. Since we don't I gotta assume Akok doesn't feel ready either.

Have any of our top-notch reporters asked Dan Hurley directly if Akok has re-aggravated the original injury? I know general Akok status questions have been asked and answered, but I'm not sure if he's been explicitly asked about re-aggravation. Maybe he has and I just missed it. Which is likely.

There's not really anything odd about it. Read the copy/pasted Wiki excerpt a few posts above. It takes more than a year to fully recover back to the same level, and there's a chance the player doesn't even get back to that same level.

I get that part. It's the return and renewed shutdown that makes me question. Is that typical?

It's normal for his mobility to not be 100%, even if he's healthy and there is no heightened risk of re-injury. The mobility and explosiveness is what is expected to come back by the 18 month mark (hopefully, anyway).

In his minutes that day he looked great and there was nothing obvious to keep his minutes so low other than Hurley doesn't want to play him. No one has mentioned he has a problem. Hurley may not want to reinjure him and he thinks he's not 100%. UCONN is just not very forthcoming about injuries as it was with Bouknight.

Is this a bit or are you being serious?

He’s not as bouncy or quick at all. It should all come back just tried a little soon I’m guessing. Next year expect good things from the young man.
Exactly. The risk of reinjury to the achilles is higher this year than it will be next year, but it's risk of injury to other joints/structures that can be an issue when there's a "weak spot." Stress fractures from altered gait, ACL injury from muscles that just can't do what they need to, etc.

While I agree he is prolly not 100% and Dan Hurley is being cautious, it is strange how he had that great sequence vs Xavier almost a month ago and since then his minutes have decreased. Not saying he shud be going full tilt, but why not let him get 5 spot mins here or there? U never kno when we might need him with the postseason coming up. Plus he uplifts the team so much when he’s in there. Weird he wouldn’t be used more as a secret weapon for a few mins here or there. So my point is, why even bother putting him in a month ago if it’s too much risk? I mean, u saw what he did in that short stint- it was impressive. That’s the only thing I don’t get. Why even play him

I think in the next pregame press conference he told the tv or print that Akok had come to him about not feeling as good. At that point it has always seemed that the message has been the same, he will play if he feels up to it. In the couple cameos since, he has not looked strong or athletically confident to me.

Here’s the thing. There has been no point this year where Akok has played well, or looked good. There was one game where he shot the ball 4 times, and 3 went it, so then in Boneyard world it was decided he played well. But he didn’t. There has been no time this season where he’s had the type of positive impact on the game that he had on a regular basis last year before he got injured. At all. There was just a time he made 2 jump shots and a nice drive to the hoop.

Maybe he plays if we have crazy foul trouble, or spot minutes if he feels amazing that day.

Otherwise we’ll see him next year.

Actually he looked incredible in that short stint. You missed it.

So at some point coaches determined he is not going to be 100% and have used him accordingly.
