Our stay in the Big East might not be long.
This, like all expansion, will be football driven. UConn doesn’t check any of the boxes. We don’t add a new tv market, we aren’t in a recruiting hot bed, and we’re currently not very good at football. The ACC will be looking to grab much bigger fish if they expand ( which they won’t).

Market driven, as well. If you think Cincinnati football will bring in more than UConn would, sure.

You do realize Connecticut is actually not part of the ACC's markets?

I don’t think the ACC is going after Cincy either. In my opinion neither UConn or Cincy add value.

The ACC likely is not going to be adding a team until COVID gets resolved. Maybe UConn's FB program and men's BB will have enough of a rebound by then that we once again are respectable. Plus, the state of CT has great demographics and we bring part of metro NYC to the ACC channel. And the current president should not mess the deal up like the last one did. Get Gov. Ned Lamont involved too. During the campaign he mentioned the possibility UConn could go ACC. Bye FB Independence! So long New Big East!! ACC here we come!!!

What non-P5 school actually moves the football needle for the ACC? No AAC school does. Noone cares about Cincy or Houston. They just don't. Navy is a nice story but that's it. BYU and Boise are closest to national names but really aren't good fits. BYU is the closest but it's an incredible outlier. Could they poach a B12 school? Who is worth it from a football perspective? There are only 3 answers - UT, OU and OSU. None of the three are going to the ACC unless they went together in a package, which won't happen.

We are the best geographic fit. Good academic fit. We have some advantages from a media market perspective.Great athletic fit except for.....football of course. Which is what most people really care about.

We have to pray that ND needs a partner and we somehow move the needle enough for them to pull the trigger.

The good news - we don't have to freak out about AAC teams possibly leaving the conference for the B12 or anywhere else. Whatever happens, happens.

I don't see the future TV deals p
The state of Connecticut, along with inroads into New England, and possibly NY; big games would be popular in Boston and NYC, as well.

Cannot understand the logic some come up with.
Connecticut is not getting an ACC invite, and Notre Dame is not joining the ACC.

You guys ever bother to read what their athletic director Jack Swarbick thinks and says about that?

Latest reports say he's all for full membership.
Umm no. He actually has stated the exact opposite of that. He has said numerous times that it was a good experience but ND will return to independence. No quote anywhere you can find will say he desires full membership.

I work with two ND alum (I know, it’s a burden) and they absolutely hate playing football in the ACC. I suspect their feelings regarding ACC football is like the majority of ND’s alumni. Other than Clemson, everybody sucks. ND is not joining the ACC.

The ACC is just not worth more money - it’s an awful football league outside of Clemson.

They have 4 or 5 of the current top 25 teams if you count Nd. That's definitely not awful, particularly when it doesn't include Fsu or Louisville both of whom will likely be back to normal sooner rather than later.

This doesn't even rise to the level of the #1 rule of conference re-alignment, UConn, get ready for another kick.

Yeah, that's true. But it's better than the football conference we're currently in. And pays better too.
For UConn the ACC is the best overall fit. UConn culturally is much more like the colleges of the ACC than the B12, New Big East or many other conferences.

He allegedly told The Athletic he does desire full membership.

Never say never but Swarbrick on 2020 ACC Membership 6 days ago (Go to 2:25 minute mark).

>>The reasons that we value independence — and it continues to be a priority for us — aren’t impacted by the positive experience of being in the ACC fully this year. It’s just that it serves some other interests at Notre Dame, as a university, that are important to us. That’s why we’ll continue to do that.<<

Eh, ADs do have the job of appeasing their fanbase publicly. We've seen that people can talk out of both ends of their lips regarding expansion.

Either way, we'll see what comes to be. If we live long enough or still care by then.
