ACC 2025-26

Thought Miami was on their way to a bad loss to SMU. Nope, Ponies collapsed in the 4th quarter, Miami won going away. Well I guess the whole 2nd half was a collapse, Canes outscored them 41-19.

I watched some of that game, and thought SMU was gonna pull it off....but credit Miami for upping its intensity in the second half.

Cal come from behind win against Stanford. I think that is now 3 in a row in the series for the Golden Bears. That can't be sitting well with the folks in Palo Alto.

Valid. Who would be the front runner if Hidalgo is nixed from consideration? As an outside looking in casual observer, I'm not really sure who the standout from either Duke or Louisville is who would garner the most consideration. That's not a knock on either team, just don't know who the star is.

Fournier for Duke, no idea for Louisville.

Usually conference awards are for conference play only. Hidalgo's been a monster in conference play, her mediocre games have all been against non-conference opponents. Just a gut feeling, but I think it's still Hannah's to lose as long as they can stay over .500. Her numbers are pretty incredible even if her team isn't good.


Louisville is so balanced I don't think they realistically have a contender.

Fournier is the clear choice for Duke but per numbers pale in comparison to Hidalgo. If Duke goes undefeated in conference and Notre Dame continues to flop I think she has a stronger case.

Khamil Pierre and Zoe Brooks are dark horse picks from NC State. They've performed very well in conference play and NC State could finish top 2 with a strong finish.
 
Hidalgo’s case is helped by the incumbency advantage but mostly that there’s not really another player in the ACC within striking range of her production, skill, and motor. You can make a case that’s she’s the best guard if not player in the country. But if ND was transported as is to the SEC, Big 12, or Big Ten, this wouldn’t be a conversation.

While I'm no fan of the way that Duke's guards have (or haven't) developed over the years, I can't help but to think that the UVA coaching staff is mismanaging Kymora in a way that borders on the criminal. I've said time and time again that I don't think that Kymora is a PG (she's more of a short SG who was pigeonholed into the position for reasons I won't get into here) because she doesn't have a feel for the position. When you look at someone like Raven Johnson, Olivia Miles, Tonie Morgan, Rori Harmon run the point, you can see that they have full command of their team more often than not. Kymora's been starting at PG for three years and I don't think she's any better as a PG now than she was as a freshman. She still doesn't fully know when to pass versus when to shoot. She hunts for assists rather than make the pass that may not lead to the assist (but is the right play). She still throws those wild, one-handed crosscourt passes that are almost always picked off. Very spotty defensive effort. Questionable shot selection, especially in what are deemed to be "big games". She's essentially a generational stat-padder for a team that's, at best, middle of the pack in a down ACC.

When I look at UVA's coaching staff, it all makes sense:

1. Not one coach with WNBA experience (playing or coaching).

2. All but one of the main coaches followed Mox from a previous stop (Missouri State or Michigan State).

3. ONE coach with any ACC experience outside of UVA--and he just got there this year. ZERO coaches with prior UVA ties.

Never forget that Mr. Reddit, a UVA alum himself, is paying $3 million four years for this mess. Let's see how forgiving he is if the Golden Child decides to transfer out.

Fun fact: Mox's college coach (Coach Jack of Syracuse) holds a 3-1 record over her in ACC games since both entered the league in 2022.

You left out that, other than Mo, she’s had no top hs recruits. I don’t think you can build a top program by only using the portal. The Mox teams have consistently been incredibly inconsistent - within games and game to game. Very frustrating!

Olivia McGhee was ranked #45 in the Class of 2023 (yes, I know she's out injured for the season). For comparison's sake, she ranked higher than Carys Baker (#58 in 2023), who may be Virginia Tech's best all-around player.

Kymora was ranked #24 in the same 2023 class. Thus, that class was, at worst, solid for UVA.

Paris Clark (#21 in 2022--to Arizona) was ranked even higher in her class than Kymora was in hers. I know she's technically a transfer, but she's spent three seasons at UVA (so she's essentially a 'Hoo). She also ranked higher than Virginia Tech's best guard (Carleigh Wenzel, #44 in 2022).

It's true that Mox has failed recently when it comes to HS recruiting. She's obviously made the decision to go for broke in the portal. However, I don't think it's true to say that she hasn't had any top recruits other than Johnson. She was able to acquire some nice young talent. She and her staff just didn't know how to develop most of it. Clark is her biggest failure when it comes to player development.

Now, compare that to what Megan Duffy and her staff have been able to do with Baker, Mackenzie Nelson (#65 in 2023), and Samyha Suffren (#69 in 2023), and it makes sense why Mox and her staff are being heavily scrutinized.

I don't see how the ACC can promote anyone else for national honors. It's just not going to work given how lowly regarded the teams in this league have been all season long. Very few people care about Toby Fournier and Kymora Johnson outside of the ACC.

Not sure how no one is "caring" about Fournier considering the stats posted along with the fact she's on the Naismith watch list for DPOY.

Well there you go. Can't imagine Cal has many wins against ND historically. They probably haven't met very many times prior to both being in the ACC.

Tilda Trygger set a career high with 25 points. Zoe Brooks followed up her 37-point performance last Sunday with a 27-point game against BC.

It's the first time NC State scored 100 points in a road game in 34 years.

Boston College sure didn't play like a team that was 4-18. Now, they're 4-19.

Up next for NC State...our most hated rival. The Wolfpack Women will host UNC in NC State's small gym.

I love sellouts even in small gyms. The electricity generated by a crowd makes tv games much more exciting. I hate hearing da hollow sound of the ball bouncing off the floor.

This was the first win and I enjoyed the game very much. One of our starters got injured (ankle) during the game (frosh Taylor Barnes) and our starting point guard has been out for a few weeks so Sunday's game will be a challenge, but I'll take this win and appreciate it. ND is a great program and struggling with some injuries too. Hildago was impressive but Mjracle Sheppard did a good job against her and managed to get 18 points, 10 assists and 4 rebounds herself. Onward and upward!
