They would all have fared better as there would have been a northern coalition. I suspect that they really don't feel a cohesion that they used to have. However, they are definitely benefiting from the large payout that the ACC can give them with the help of ESPN.

Yes, because I wish I could find a correlation between being in a big money power 5 and a schools ability to fund their athletics properly and have access to key bowl games. Then you are stuck rooting for a team with a better chance to win. Hate that.
 
Bowl games are just an excuse to extort money from the fans. Why anyone would pay for over priced hotel/ticket/travel packages offered through the school is beyond me. No thanks!!!!
 
if BC hadnt jumped years earlier than everyone else, we would have been selected instead of them come 2013. pitt, lville, and cuse all had vastly better football programs so UConn was easily the odd school out of the four, but the ghost of doug flutie wouldnt have been enough to save BC in 2013. early bird got the worm unfortunately.

Wouldn't that share of the ACC jackpot Pitt enjoys (without making the tournaments) look nice on UConn's bottom line.
I know you enjoy being a snark at times but Palatine's point is well taken. The NBE doesn't generate the big $ - in basketball it generates enthusiasm and last I checked, enthusiasm adds little to the bottom line - and the argument of more fans etc shouldn't mean much because a program like UConn should hold onto it's fans. As a season ticket owner for decades, I have seen that the new breed of UConn fans can be very fickle in basketball and football more so than soccer or baseball
Bottom line P5 money can help cure a lot of issues
Am I happy in the NBE? for basketball and soccer yes, but if UConn were in the ACC there would be much more upside financially and football would not be in it's present predicament
Dan Hurley could recruit as well with UConn in the ACC as the NBE, if not better
If not in the ACC than the NBE is better than the AAC, that's for sure in hoops
 
Seeing how the grass hasn't been greener on the court/field, would any of you have 2nd thoughts about joining ACC, B1G or both if invited. I'd still jump in a heartbeat for either. The money is too much to pass up.
 
Syracuse fans in the NYC area have to be upset with the move. They had far more opportunities to attend games while in the Big East, including the Main Event, the B.E. Tourney. They started a couple threads about it.

Notre Dame too. Given its football "independence," that program seems like a much better fit in the New Big East.

BCU did not jump to the ACC. They snuck in hiding in Miami's butt.

The move out of the big East was never ever about basketball. It was football and money driven. Probably nobody gave much thought to basketball. It was important only to Syracuse really. And the Dome was built as a football stadium first. And I suspect that they are going through the typical older coach nearing retirement situation and will be fine in a few years, though probably the guy after the guy after Boeheim.
 
The move out of the Big East benefitted Villanova who could never seem to get over the hump when Syracuse UConn Pitt Louisville were all there. It also made a bunch of schools like St Johns, Providence and Seton Hall sort of relevant again because they had a lower bar without the Big teams. And obviously Xavier Creighton and Butler got a promotion. BC is what it was. Rutgers is better off. Norte Dame football has been to a few football tournaments At least in part due to the easier football schedule playing ACC teams gets them. They would drop basketball and every other sport to win football games if they had to.

Not a millisecond. I think the ACC would be the best competitively. But the Big 10 has more prestige
 
I think it is just so funny to read "Canada's" board. Same argument about how important the $$$ is like the fans get a cut. Wake Forest makes the same money. Are they going to be a national contender anytime soon?

Look they made the move they had to make. But they are a Tier 2 program in the ACC at best right now. The reality is they are getting killed in recruiting by Nova, Uconn. Even Seton Hall. They had a great pipeline in the Philly area. That's gone. They can argue it's not all recruiting, but you need players to win.

They can fix that a bit if they hire the right next coach. But who is that? Oats I think will look at the SEC as a chance to be better than the ACC. And all of these schools have $$$ now, so can Cuse outbid someone with P5 money and convince them they can overtake Duke, UNC, Virginia, and Louisville while they don't have a solid recruiting footprint? All of whom have clearly surpassed them.

Completely agree. Was lucky enough to be at the UConn vs GTown game in 96 my final year at UConn. Went to a few others after that and was always epic. Went to the ACC tournament in Tampa a few years back and wasn't even close.
