AAC Tourney

I cannot believe how bad Tulsa has been tonight. They are making Memphis look like a top 15 team.

We duke it out with the conference heavyweights in a phone booth, while the other side of the bracket is a virtual pillowfight.

What a *show Tulsa is putting on. They and UH deserve the NIT.

How in the hell did Tulsa come out and play like this while on the bubble? Yikes

It's inexplicable, especially given they have nine seniors. Potential last meaningful game of their careers and they came out sleepwalking.

Things could get ugly next season. Wouldn't be surprised to see Haith explore his options.

Yeah, Tulsa didn't play any defense today and they missed tons of easy shots. A recipe for disaster. I wonder why they never played like this against us.

Imagine Tulane playing for an NCAA invite Sunday. My God...

Tulane Vs Memphis... nice. The top half of this tournament is respectable, at least.

UConn has a terrible curse being in the AAC. Not just being in this joke of a conference, but being the "heavyweight" in a middling conference with a handful of decent teams who circle the our name on their calendar every year. If we were in the ACC or Big 10, it'd be relatively equal footing. There isn't this shame attached to losing to Ohio State, and they aren't going to get particularly amped up about their conference match against UConn with MSU looming the next week. Coaches can pick us to finish 5th in the preseason, doesn't matter. We're UConn, and that's that.

This is where the national media fails to recognize the difficulties of playing in a conference like this. It's similar for Gonzaga or Witchita State. That is now the role we play in the AAC, sad state of affairs. If UConn's players disguised themselves as Tulane for the duration of the conference season, they'd win most of their games in this conference, just by avoiding the UConn hype that inspires teams like Temple, Tulsa, and Houston.

Let's hope we beat Temple...

If we can get the W tomorrow and grind out an AAC tournament victory, we will be in a very nice place after the game.

Jeez - I can't possibly imagine this tournament laying out much better than it has right now.

Houston, who's inexplicably been a bugaboo - is gone.
SMU is in the corner serving time.
Tulsa pooped.
We beat Cincinnati in the conference tournament yet again.

We can absolutely beat Temple. We pig piled Memphis. Tulane is... Tulane.

We should win this thing, right?

A thing about the lower bracket that sucks. If we beat Temple and lose to Memphis, we get a sub-100 loss on our resume. Probably not enough to bounce us, but really hurts our seeding. But if it were Memphis-Houston in the semi-finals, rather than Memphis-Tulane, and we lost to Memphis in the finals, the loss would suck, but Memphis would suddenly be in the RPI Top 100, and so while the loss would suck, it wouldn't kill us, and it would add 2 Top 100 wins.

That can't happen now.

I hate the fact that this Shiite tourney ends on Sunday. They need to start it a day early.

We are just used to the Big East. Our conference essentially just swapped scheds with the ACC.

So it looks like Memphis tomorrow, currently taking Tulane to the woodshed 66-40 with 5 minutes left.

Ironically, Cincy & Temple will be rooting for us tomorrow.
