Tulane Vs Memphis... nice. The top half of this tournament is respectable, at least.
UConn has a terrible curse being in the AAC. Not just being in this joke of a conference, but being the "heavyweight" in a middling conference with a handful of decent teams who circle the our name on their calendar every year. If we were in the ACC or Big 10, it'd be relatively equal footing. There isn't this shame attached to losing to Ohio State, and they aren't going to get particularly amped up about their conference match against UConn with MSU looming the next week. Coaches can pick us to finish 5th in the preseason, doesn't matter. We're UConn, and that's that.
This is where the national media fails to recognize the difficulties of playing in a conference like this. It's similar for Gonzaga or Witchita State. That is now the role we play in the AAC, sad state of affairs. If UConn's players disguised themselves as Tulane for the duration of the conference season, they'd win most of their games in this conference, just by avoiding the UConn hype that inspires teams like Temple, Tulsa, and Houston.
