AAC on Life Support

Regardless of your position on the game cancellations, there's no denying the AAC conference is on life support in the intensive care unit.

In the next week, Mike Aresco needs to demonstrate some leadership ability and make an omelette out of eggs, which have been discarded everywhere.

The American needs to get creative and reschedule games by using byes and changing game dates.

Lock everyone into a room until you have a plan to replay all cancelled games.

For UConn Season ticketholders this is just another degrading of season tickets value, when the conference can't seem to get out of its own way and demonstrate a true commitment to football. We currently stand down two home games in 2017 and they were 2 of the 3 most popular games (USF, BC and Missouri).

If football is the reason we are in the AAC then Aresco needs to get his act together and show that it's a football not a soccer mom type conference. Otherwise, go independent in football and go to the Big East for basketball. We can keep soccer in the AAC.

We need a commissioner with a weather machine that works

Business Continuity Planning provides a turnkey plan to roll out in the event of bad weather or other disasters. You just can't play victim all the time.

What is the context here?

You're saying they are not going to make the game up at all?

I think we should go down to 10 teams like the big 12, they got to create a conf championship game.

It would be hard with the addition of Wichita St, but we should streamline the conference if we can.

join the big east. Bring basketball back to being a national power. Get recruiting back on track. Win. Or schedule 3 top tier p5 teams a year in football.

Have Miami and FSU announced a plan to play their cancelled games? Why is this issue an AAC issue?

The supposed issue for our game is that the schedules of both schools don't match up in a way to be able to reschedule; a non-conference game would need to be somehow dropped by one or both of the schools. Also an issue with not being able to push the AAC title game back a week due to conflict with Army-Navy game with the potential of Navy being in the AAC game. It's likely that several of the games cancelled this weekend will not be made up due to teams not having a common bye week. Our wrinkle is that I believe our game is the only one that is a conference game. This could impact the AAC big time if USF would be in a position of running the table in be in consideration for the non-P5 slot in a New Year's Day Bowl Game, particularly if they've played one less game than than others in consideration. A possibility could be that the game is played the week of the AAC title game if neither team is in it & bowl qualification would be on the line...... USF @ the Rent in early December.......I would take that....

Aresco just doesn't seem to get it. He talks about how game's are insured - he doesn't seem to get the competitive aspect and fans tolerance for basically running his football conference like a youth soccer league. When you have a ranked team, fans of other conference teams want to see them.
We have now lost two home football games this season - one for financial reasons and the other due to a cynical ploy by a member school to organize optimal practice time for Illinois at the expense of a fellow conference team. They effectively inoculated themselves with the hurricane, which shielded them from criticisms as if they were taking the high road.

What's the financial hit on this?

Can't imagine a power conference dumping a game.

The idea that somehow USF ducked us to make sure they had enough time to prep for Illinois is ignorant.

Indeed, it's one of the goofiest things I've seen put out there about this cancellation.

I think they were concerned their practice schedule might be disrupted. The public excuses given were counter logical. Players going home to their families or ability to safely travel. There was no factual basis for those narratives. The players will be in Tampa - ready to practice for Illinois. There was no financial incentive for them to play us the and frankly no ACC conference respect /loyalty. Case in point, FL Atlantic traveled for a pay game in WI.

There are a handful of posters on these boards that make many threads unreadable. They have a viewpoint and go immediate to becoming intractable. How they have the time to post one inane post after another is beyond me.

Why are you posting this on the basketball board?

Agreed. Illinois stinks anyway. They will win that game. But I don't think they wanted to play UConn while their team was clearly and understandably distracted, and concerned about their families and homes.
