AA announcements [merged thread]

Very simple. 1st Team AA. AP/WBCA/USBWA (the 3 listed in the Media Guide) count. WBCA and USBWA give 10-man 1st team. AP only does a 5-man 1st team.

Pretty sure if Williams is making the 2nd Team AP, she'll make one of the 10 team lists.
Thanks. I had a memory leakage since the first time you explained this to me back in Spring 2014.

I see where Diamond DeShield didn't even make Honorable Mention for the AP All American list. Still having trouble seeing her stock as a WNBA high draft pick. Remembering back to her freshman year and where she is today. Looking forward to seeing what her decision will be to return to Tennessee or move on.

If I were king, I would have flipped Lou and Gabby partly because I think she earned it, partly because she is a year older. Lou will have one more chance.

more awards/list still to come out... Gabby sure to get first team on one of them.

Honorable Mentioned:
Evelyn Akhator, Kentucky; Kristine Anigwe, California; Kalani Brown (1), Baylor; Jordin Canada, UCLA; Alaina Coates, South Carolina; Asia Durr, Louisville; Nia Coffey, Northwestern; Sophie Cunningham, Missouri; Makayla Epps (1), Kentucky; Tori Jankoska, Michigan State; Alexis Jones, Baylor; Tynice Martin, West Virginia; Erica McCall, Stanford; Brooke McCarty, Texas; Kia Nurse, UConn; Leticia Romero, Florida State; Mercedes Russell, Tennessee; Karlie Samuelson, Stanford; Brooke Schulte, DePaul; Jennie Simms, Old Dominion; Shakayla Thomas, Florida State; Lizzy Wendell, Drake; Morgan William, Mississippi State.

She was 8th in the AP voting. That should get her top 10 from another panel.

I agree. All star voters usually reward scoring over other skills. While Lou leads Gabby in scoring 20.7-13.8, Gabby leads Lou in rebounding 295-135, Assists 185-113, Steals 94-51 and Blocks 48-8. By the stats, Gabby has a much more well rounded game. If I had to pick just one for my team, I think I would go with Gabby. Glad I don't have to pick.

Interesting. So Gabby could potentially have 300+ Rebounds, 200+ Assists, 100+ Steals, 50+ Blocks. I would like to know if that has ever been done before.

That is not a safe assumption.

Last year Rachel Banham was First Team AP but didn't make the 10-member WBCA list.

Lou will have two more chances. Let's not rush her out of Storrs. Also, the composition of the team is two guards and three front court players. Jones and Wilson did no more, and maybe not as much, as Gabby. Maybe one of them should have been replaced?

She missed a 10-player team? Yikes!

Lou finished slightly ahead of Pheesa. I think I would have reversed that based on Pheesa's rebounds and blocks. Here's why I think Lou jumped over Pheesa: In addition to voters tending to look at points, a final impression can be a factor. The voting came between the conference tourneys and the NCAA tourney. Thus, the last view that voters got of Lou was her 10-10 spectacle that received national attention.

I think the position composition of the first team was coincidental. I think players were listed on the ballot regardless of position, and the selection was based on points. The top 5 had the most points, in descending order.

I would like to see Kia's name on 2nd or 3rd team, as well. She is under-rated; lost in the spotlights of her more flashy teammates. And, I believe, she is beginning to ascend to superstar level. She can prove it in the next three games.
As long as a team is limited to 3 nominees, it's tough.

Glad to see Lexie Brown make the team. It may have happened before..... but how many times has a player made the AP All-American team playing for two different schools... ?
