We got jumped by both Louisville and Stanford.... Rankings don't really matter, but the streak was awesome. What we really need is to get into the FT Wayne Regional as a 2 (or even a 3), so we don't face one of the big 3 until the FF.

The folks who do these rankings must be programmers who write caucus programs. Louisville gets beat at home by an inconsistent FSU and then at the unranked and even more inconsistent Orange up in the real upstate NY. They beat the much ballyhooed NC State and then the undermanned ND and deserve up 4 from last week? Not that we’ve been overly impressive but our losses are against the top 3 in the nation and yes, each took it to us.

Whoa! Gonzaga getting some love finally! Should be ranked a little higher.

Agree with ME Husky Fan , though I was looking at Stanford jumping 4 when they took last minute magic to survive against Colorado..... twice this season. For either of those teams to jump 4 spots seems... off. Then again, we did lose to the #1 team this week since these are the Monday polls....

That's why these rankings don't matter. You have a bunch of clowns voting. How can Louisville and Stanford jump Uconn if they both have lost to unranked teams. Uconn has only lost to the top teams?

And of course the writer who covers Rutgers voted us in 10th place. Tell me that isn’t just a hater vote. I get we aren’t what we once were this year but seriously....

I like Gonzaga, but they haven't been all that impressive. Stingy defense, but their offense has been lackluster in quite a few of their games. The WCC is really bad this year. They've had some blowout wins, but they've had a number of games that were closer than they should have been. They have a decided lack of quality wins. They beat Missouri St. and...not much else.

Can't say I blame said writer. UConn never has been kind to The Scarlet Knights.

Here's this Louisville fan's take on that. Let me start by saying that I don't think my Cardinals are a Top Five team. That said, we do have wins over Oregon (neutral site), at Kentucky and at NC State. The Ohio State, FL State and (especially) Syracuse losses were "bad" but in those last two losses we were missing Elizabeth Balogun who makes a big difference at both ends of the floor.

I'll be happy with a top three seed in Fort Wayne - assuming South Carolina, Baylor and Oregon are elsewhere.

You sound like you are describing UConn. Also, I think Maryland should be ranked higher than UConn, because they are playing a lot better than UConn is at this point in the season.

Ranking UConn is one of the trickiest things to do this season.

I think that’s the challenge with ranking UConn this season as well. I mean, we know that they’re still a pretty good team, but it’s still unknown just how good UConn is. Yeah, UConn doesn’t have a bad loss, but they don’t have an amazing collection of wins either.

I don't have a problem with UConn at 6. Statistics aside, the eye test would suggest
that UConn will have a struggle getting to the regional finals.

I agree with Donalddoowop that Maryland has been very impressive of late. I would
put them at number 4 right now, but I suppose the voters would have a problem
ranking a 4-loss team that high.

Because they have far better wins than UCONN:
Louisville-@ NC State, neutral vs. Oregon, @ Kentucky
Stanford-vs. Mississippi State, Gonzaga, @ Oregon State

It isn't just about who you lose to, it's who you beat. UCONN's only win against a ranked foe is @ DePaul.

LOL this is comical. UConn looses to the top 3 teams in the nation and UConn is not playing well. Everybody else looses and they move ahead of UConn???????? Well over the next few weeks everybody else will loose and then we will see. Stanford and LVille are not better then UConn... Period

.-.
Does anyone remember who finished second, third or fourth in the standing for the past twenty years? At the end of the day the only team who's name is on the books is 1.

How do you know? I bet Stanford and Louisville could both beat DePaul and TN as well.

And I’ll bet that UConn can beat Kentucky, Mississippi state, Oregon state, and Gonzaga.

So I assume you dont have a problem with Louisville being ranked higher than Connecticut... since they beat Oregon on a neutral site?

So as of this week, what team(s) has the longest, active streak of Top 5 rankings?
I would guess SC and it started this season.

Nevermind. There's a Yahoo News story on our streak ending and stated that it is indeed SC, with 11 weeks. And the second longest streak ever is 96 weeks by LA Tech in the 80s.

Another UConn streak that may never be beaten.
