A One Off or the Start of a Trend?

These bowls are simply embarrassments and I hope the teams involved and sponsors suffer significant financial disaster. I also hope any senior or junior with a shot at the draft has the common sense to opt out of playing.

So Carolina 2-8 (Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla v UAB)
Mississippi St. 2-7 (Lockheed Martin Armed Forces v #24 Tulsa)
Tennessee 3-7 (Auto Zone Liberty Bowl v WVU)
Arkansas 3-7 (Texas Bowl v TCU)
Kentucky 4-6 (Tax Slayer Gator v. #23 NC State)
Houston 3-4 (New Mexico v Hawai'i)
N. Texas 4-5 (Myrtle Beach v App St)
Ole Miss 4-5 (Outback Bowl vs #11 Indiana)
W. Kentucky 5-6 (Lending Tree v Georgia St.)

Honestly, what is wrong with all these losing SEC teams accepting bids? Have they no pride whatsoever?

Reasons to play bowl games checklist(updated 12/21/2020):
  • Reward to players for successful season
  • Financial gain for university
  • Financial gain for conference
  • Financial gain for media/network
  • Financial gain for host city

But these are in confernce wins-losses this year....only half of the teams can go over .500...no OOC patsies.

College football in 2020...
  • Player bend over backwards to stay isolated, healthy, and in form to field a team.
  • AD's work overtime to set up a schedule and find opponents for 6 days out.
  • Networks fly by the seat of their pants to make sure fans at home can follow the games.

  • Bowl committees: "Our hands are tied."

The reality is that these crap bowls are a money drain in a normal year. With financial hits left and right these bowls are even more irrelevant this year. But you know. Concerns for the players. Abundance of caution. Blah. Blah. Blah.

Two things #1- If you are a senior it will be the last time you ever suit up and play.
#2 Coaches get bonus to play in bowl

What a mess... South Carolina 2-8 btw.

Funny how USCe managed to play all of the last weeks of their season unaffected by COVID (5 straight 11/7-12/5) but are suddenly unavailable for a crappy bowl game.

There were rumors of a player revolt not wanting to play for Bobo....but rumor quickly squished.
